okay uhhhh
bucckle in this is a really long one
Ebony was born into a small family consisting only of his father and his older sister in the early 90s. his mother abandoned his father right after he was born and was never seen again.
Ebony immediately displayed signs of severe mental issues, the most concerning of which being his schizophrenia. he developed it in his early childhood and it caused him to be incredibly paranoid and irritable at all times. despite how volatile and emotional he was, his father always did his best to care for him
his older sister, Crow, on the other hand, had a lot of physical issues. shes barely able to walk and often uses a wheelchair or crutches on her good days. she spends most of her time indoors because of this, and ebony does the same, but for him its due to his paranoia
when he was 9 years old, his school recommended that his father admit him to the psych ward so he could be carefully monitored and given proper treatment. his father, well-meaning but uneducated, followed their recommendation
being in the psych ward only made Ebony's mental issues worse. he didnt know anyone and was in an incredibly unfamiliar place at an age where he was still very dependent on his father. he became violent and suicidal, resulting in him being discharged two months earlier than he was supposed to be.
in the days nearing Ebony's tenth birthday, he continuously insisted that somebody was following him. everyone assumed it was due to his mental issues and assured him it was nothing to worry about.
unfortunately, this time he was right. one night, he woke up to the smell of smoke. his house had caught on fire. he was trapped in his room due to his doorknob having heated up, so he opened the window to escape. he found a strange woman smiling at him from their backyard. when he blinked, she was gone.
he escaped, but he ended up with severe burn scarring on his back and arms, as well as permanent lung damage from the smoke. he had to spend months in the hospital. his sister did too, but she managed to get out without many burns.
this experience gave Ebomy severe pyrophobia. he used to keep scented candles in his room because the smell helped him fall asleep, but that habit was immediately ended. he couldnt handle even hearing about fire for a long time.
fast forward a few years. Ebony is 15. hes been in and out of the psych ward multiple times. his mental health is at an all time low. Crow's health issues are getting worse and hes struggling in school more than he ever has. not to mention hes an easy target for bullying. he ends up just not going most days.
he comes home from school one day and finds his house on fire. again. he immediately starts freaking out and rushes inside to help his family, but just finds the woman from last time. she doesnt say anything. she just laughs and disappears, like last time. Ebony passes out and wakes up hours later in his bed.
he had apparently hallucinated the entire thing. he doesnt believe that for even a moment, though. his hallucinations never look- never feel that real. he couldve sworn he felt the heat of the flames on his skin.
well, thats weird. moving on a few years more!
Ebony is now 23. his family just discovered he somehow had an inheritance to a house on the other side of town. not his father, not Crow, just him.
his mental state is a lot better by this point, so they all decide its probably safe if he moves in, so long as he finds a roommate. Crow is too physically ill to really be without a caretaker for long, so hes going to need to look for someone else.
he decides to take a look around the house first and see what hes dealing with. its a decently sized house, with a nice open floorplan and more bedrooms than he could ever reasonably make use of. theres also a strange lone door on the main floor. its older and far more worn than anything else in the house.
Ebony opens the door, after trying every single key on the keyring that came with the house, and gets immediately sucked in
he falls for what feels like forever, before landing on a massive pile of pillows in a small abandoned house. hes immediately greeted by a tiny woman named Pocket, who tells him hes the new king of this world called "the Wonderland". hes given a cool magical staff, a change of clothes, a massive palace, and a kingdom to rule over.
and thats all i can reveal atm! partially because nothing is set in stone after that point and partially because thats where the story starts. hope u liked it! :P
