Makoto Naegi: Seize The Day from Newsies

Protagonist song about standing up and doing what's right

(Note: the second half of the song is off topic tap dancing so if you're just listening for the lyrics you can skip from about 2 minutes in to about 5 minutes)

Kyoko Kirigiri: Going Through the Motions from Once More With Feeling - Buffy The Vampire Slayer

She is competent in her field but her feelings are inacessible

(This version includes the overture - actual song begins a minute in)

Aoi Asahina: Defying Gravity from Wicked

This song contains two themes that I also see in her character arc - disillusionment and sheer determination.

Byakuya Togami: I Don't Understand The Poor from A Gentleman's Guide To Love And Murder

I would find a song with more depth but I don't respect him like that

Toko Fukawa: On My Own from Les Miserables

She is sad and pining

Genocide Jack: Dirty Dudes Must Die from Nerdy Prudes Must Die

She is doing a bit of murdering boys for fun

Yasuhiro Hagakure: I Have A Dream from Mamma Mia

He's a silly little guy who stays hopeful and still believes in the universe after all he's been through

Sayaka Maizono: Roxie from Chicago

She doesn't want to murder but if that's what it takes to be a star…

Leon Kuwata: Stick It To The Man from School of Rock

He decided that rebellious punk was gonna be his whole personality and I wanted to honor that

Chihiro Fujisaki: Lifeboat from Heathers

They believe themselves to be the weakest in this death game, and they knew what that was gonna mean

Mondo Owada: Totally Fucked from Spring Awakening

whoopsie accidentally did a murder

Kiyotaka Ishimaru: For Forever from Dear Evan Hansen

I try to choose songs that focus on the character and not their relationship to others, but Mondo's story influences Taka’s so much. So I chose this wistful, sad “what could have been” song - the singer is not singing about a moment that actually happened, but what he wish had happened

Hifumi Yamada: Cool As I Think I Am from Nerdy Prudes Must Die

I bet when he was going with Celeste’s plan he was so sure he was the hero of the story

Celestia Ludenberg: When The Chips Are Down from Hadestown

A gambling metaphor about why a woman has to be brutal to survive even if she yearns for connection

Sakura Ogami: Surface Pressure from Encanto

I tried to avoid Disney songs as they can be their whole own genre, but c'mon

Mukuro Ikusaba: What's Wrong With Me from Mean Girls the Musical

I firmly believe Mukuro could have been a good person if not influenced by Junko

Please tell me your thoughts on my silly lil casting. Also if you haven't seen TGWDLM it's a musical about the zombie apocalypse, where all the zombies sing and dance. 10/10 would recommend to everyone.

Paul - Smallishbeans

He will not participate in the bit, and yet he IS the bit. A little deranged in a way that makes a compelling protagonist.

Emma - Grian

There's no difference between the permit office and a shitty coffee shop. Grian could absolutely embody a cynical and tired character whose customer service experience has taught them how to survive the apocalypse.

Bill - ImpulseSV

The Minecraft dad, and heart of the group. A character defined by friendship, and their support of others.

Ted - Martyn InTheLittleWood

Ted being the asshole character makes him hard to cast. But in the Life Series, Martyn has dropped some top tier trash talk and done some underhanded things to survive and win, which makes him a very fun fit for Ted.

Charlotte/Zoe - SolidarityGaming

I remember someone in the fandom once described Jimmy as a "wet paper bag of a man" which could also describe Charlotte well. We love them, even when they end up dying first.

Mr. Davidson/Sam/McNamara - Skizzleman

There is something manic in Jeff Blim's eyes that I truly believe only Skizz could match and I can't explain much more than that. But also the Poe Poe and Show Me Your Hands.

Alice/Greenpeace Girl/Nora - GeminiTay

This track has some varied characters. But all the characters have this confident (slightly violent) air that Gem could really embody. Also Alice being Bills daughter mirrors Gem calling Impulse her Minecraft dad.

Professor Hidgens - GoodTimesWithScar

Who else? Only Scar could perform Show Stoppin Number and I won't change my mind on that.
