Gwilym Llywellyn

I did start this one in January and that month was basically a total writeoff in general so I'm still counting this as a January drawing... I posted a marker drawing of Gwilym in May last year, but I felt they should have a more representative profile drawing in this style (also an excuse to draw them again because they are essentially my brain's screensaver atm jvdbdshv). Slight change to the pronoun usage in that it's just they/he with everyone just because I've written about them more and the use of all pronouns just doesn't make sense for them anymore. Their design is relatively unchanged since I first drew them, I've just spent time - still am, to be fair - working out the style I want to draw them in:

Gwilym is the co-founder, lead singer and guitarist of the Welsh language pop/rock band Llewod Rampant, whose members are based in Anglesey and Bangor. They are not a part of the supergroup, but Llewod Rampant has toured with them as support. Gwilym can appear intimidating, standing at 192 cm (6'3") and with quite intense, expressive eyes, and a relatively guarded, serious disposition. They can be sharp and abrupt when ruffled, and quite cynical and untrusting of others. On the flipside they love very intensely, and are protective and loyal of loved ones. Their neuroticism is inspired by some pretty serious deceptions they experienced in relationships in their early 20s, which has lead to unhealthy coping mechanisms and a fear of commitment.

They have a strong dislike of Rory since first meeting him minutes after meeting Zed, who they had immediately crushed on, envious of their closeness. While over their ill fated crush, the irrational dislike remains despite Rory's oblivious kindess and friendliness towards them. They are initially not really close to anyone in the supergroup, but that is subject to change in an unexpected way following the first tour...

Lilith 'Lili' Lu-Glynn

Final drawing of 2024, finished at around 6:30pm on the 31st! This is not the foinal drawing of this set but it is technically the last of the primary OCs in whatever universe this is (I did post Gwilym a few months ago and i did post a human design of Zed a few years back, but I'll probably alter it a bit for this bc they're sort of the same character but also not fdssd)

ANYWAY: Lilith is the lead singer and guitarist of the Cornish melodic death metal band Barbarous, which is entirely made up of queer women - she is pansexual and polyamorous herself. They perform in pink barbie-esque fashion (and most of them just dress that way anyway). Lilith has a bright, playful and slightly mischeivous personality. She's a 'big sister' type, the sort of person who carries things like plasters, paracetamol and period products at all times in case anyone needs them.

She was probably the second character I'd conceptualised, but she's not changed AS much, I just tried to alter her facial features slightly to better reflect that she's mixed race.

She's half Taiwanese, her dad having moved from the country when he was younger to start anew in St. Ives, which is where Lilith still lives. She has identical twin half-sisters from her dad's previous relationship but she doesn't know them very well (too complicated to explain succinctly here dsjvbsv). She does speak some Taiwanese, but mostly just at home with her dad, so she's trying to get better at it to bridge the gap!

Of the supergroup she's known Dermot the longest by far, having toured with his band long before she met any of the others, but she's closest to Rory, with whom she immediately clicked within about a minute of meeting him. She also gets on rather well with Bronwen, and has had several casual 'encounters' with her, particularly during tours. She has a girlfriend who is also poly, and she DOES have a name but I don't like it so she'll remain unnamed for now hvsdbv

I think that's about it, I'm flipping knackered mate. Blwyddyn newydd dda i bawb and see you next year. Or this year now I guess. I'm going to bed :3

Rory Darrow

The next character in the lineup, completed on the 30th of November, so my one piece of personal art a month thing still stands!!! (whether I get one done in December is another matter entirely...) Rory is the extremely amicable lead singer and guitarist of the Falkirk-based dance rock band Pish & Tush, who is a lot more of a party guy than his Supermarket Mens Collection-adjacent looks might convey. He's a very straight-passing gay as a result.

He was the first of this little set I'd come up with, and as a result his design has changed a bit. He used to be a skinny, lanky character, but as I fleshed him out with his backstory of being a tree surgeon, the strength-based sports he takes part in and the fact he comes from a family of big eaters, it just made no sense for him to have the same weedy build as me vbdsvbsjv

(Added a later sketch to show the body type he's meant to have. My anatomy is very inconsistent 😔)

He's a pretty easy going, friendly and empathetic kind of guy, but he can also be a bit dense. For example, he has no idea that Gwilym dislikes him despite how extremely obvious they are about it, and when he eventually notices he can't really tell why, even though everyone else knows it's because Gwilym has an unfortunate infatuation with Zed and clearly dislikes how close Rory is to them. (Rory also fancied Zed for a bit but is pretty content just being good mates!)

Behind his chipper exterior, he has anxiety and PTSD from a couple of violent incidents he witnessed as a child, and as a result has a fear of thunderstorms, fireworks and whatever else might cause loud banging noises. He regulates it with anxiety medication that he carries around with him and he has a decent pair of noise cancelling headphones that he keeps at home. He formed his band with a school friend who had similar experiences to him, as well as having a little sister around the same age as Rory's.

Last month I did a talk at a career's day at Staffordshire University for their Cartoon & Comic Arts fresher class - the first time I've ever done anything remotely like that!! - and planning it/making the presentation/panicking took up most of my free time that month so I didn't get a chance to make anything for myself, but I did draw these assets for my presentation. No you may not have context. Enjoy :)

Diarmaid 'Dermot' O'Duffy

Next character in the lineup, Dermot is one of the founding members of the Derry-based Northern Irish groove metal band Craic Dealer. He plays bass and does the unclean vocals. The war with my scanner continues with this annoyingly blurry sketch sheet:

Personality wise he is a bit of a prankster who shows affection by mildly annoying his friends (only if they're in on the joke!), but otherwise is pretty laid back. He's pretty open minded but admittedly pretty sheltered so occassionally says the wrong thing, in a sort of 'he's a little confused but he's got the spirit' kind of way. He recently worked out that he's aromantic after a couple of conversations with Zed (yes it's the same Zed from Spawn but also not really, we'll get there when we get there) and initially had some mixed feelings about it, particularly because of some damaging misconceptions about what aromanticism actually means, but is gradually coming to terms with it. He has a twin brother called Cillian, but they don't look particularly alike as they have quite different builds and taste in style. They do have very similar personalities though, and get on quite well.

Bronwen Sayer

Finally getting around to making art of my new OCs - well, not NEW new, but newly actually drawn out instead of just living in my imaginary music videos during my commutes. I wanted to start with Bronwen because I wanted to draw my fat characters first in honour of it being Fat Liberation Month (something that I've never heard of until this year but that I really want to uplift) and also I just really like drawing Bronwen!

Brief character bio: Bronwen is the cofounder & drummer of the Wenglish queer punk band 'Llosgi'r Tai Haf'. She's relatively gruff, no-nonsense and has a strong sense of justice, with a biting wit that comes out when you least expect it. She's a multiply disabled chronic pain sufferer who often requires a cane or crutches to walk depending on the day. She' enjoys lifting weights, and has strengthened her core, arms and back and uses a specially designed drum throne in order to drum with little discomfort. She's a butch lesbian that uses she/he pronouns. She's originally from Blaenau Ffestiniog, but currently lives in Bangor with her best friend and band co-founder Madog, a trans guy she originally met at a lesbian bar before he came out.

(The reason this wasn't posted when I finished it like ten days ago is that I had to wage a war with my scanner to get it to just. Scan something.)

Art Fight attack for @battychaichilla, my take on a dragon themed 'design me a character'.

She is very quiet, shy and self concious, but she has a secret identity as a bold and courageous fighter! She is far more confident and aggressive as a fighter, and is seen as pretty cool and a hero, but she genuinly dislikes standing out too much in her civilllian form, which is hard to do as she's over 6ft tall. Aesthetically she is based on the red and white dragons from Welsh mythology, with her fighting side based on the victor of the fight, Y Ddraig Goch.

Art Fight Profile Card!

I'm all set up! I am in the assembly rooms upstairs, when you come in, turn left and that's me in the corner... That's me in the spotlight... (I am actually illuminated by a window at the moment bc that will change because that's how the rotation lf the earth works)

Just a quick post to say that I'm going to be tabling once again at the comic festival in my hometown of Macclesfield, MaccPow! There's all sorts going on from the 20th to the 23rd of June, but the main event is on the 22nd, where I will be in the traditional comicon artist alley in the Town Hall from 10-4pm. Hope to see you there!

This year I'm a singing strawberry poison dart frog, because I'm actually part of a Pride choir in my hometown now, despite being afraid to sing in front of other people :D (I'm also in a Welsh choir performing the week before. I didn't realise the gauntlet I'd signed myself up to kdjvdjvb)

Gwilym

It's been a loooong May for me, and yesterday sucked majorly so I drew this that evening to try and relax. I'm not happy with how anime-esque the face looks despite specifically trying NOT to draw in that style, but the anatomy is surprisngly alright.

Gwilym is one of a a few characters who mainly exist in my head specifically so i can imagine music videos while I'm walking along (as you do), and Gwilym formed while I was listening to the bands Fleur De Lys, Sŵnami and Gwilym among others (the latter being their namesake.) I've only really started developing them properly, so I don't want to explain who they are too much in case it changes, but here's some general stuff:

Gwilym goes by he/they (he/she/they to trusted friends and family) and is gay. They are a linguist (PHD) who speaks Welsh, English, Cornish and Breton (as well as a bit of BSL for a friend theirs), a Celtic historian and a musician. Their band is called Llewod Rampant, which is a four piece rock band (exact genre pending lmao) that they front as the lead singer and guitarist. Their personality is a bit serious, and they can be pretty stubborn and even antagonistic at times due to their Hidden Depths™ (still a WIP but the basics are there). Despite this they are surprisingly good with children, and present very friendly and playful whenever they interact with them. They were originally meant to be a Spawn character but I'm not sure if that's still gonna be a thing or not (they do not have an animal design yet, anyway) because I want to have a go at making other stories. Will still add an STS tag just in case.
