She looked at the wreckage of her corset and smiled. He had been so hasty to get it off that the laces had become up a knotted mess that he’d ended up tearing it n frustration. It laid on top of the pool of fabric that was here petticoats and and garters and stockings.

She felt his strong, blunt fingers trace little patterns across the soft, smooth flesh of her thigh. She curled her face into the bend of his arm, smiling.

“Run away with me,” Piotr said and it had been something they’d fought about before—loudly, until she was sure Mrs. Romanoff was going to send Mr. Rogers up to force Piotr to leave and she didn’t want that. But this time it was light, teasing, and his lips coasted across the skin between her shoulder blades. “Run away with me.”

Kitty shook her head, her long tangle of brown curls brushing across the rough, dirt-flecked skin of his arm. She really should have insisted on a bath first, Kitty thought, but it had been nearly a month since Piotr had gone on the cattle drive and she hadn’t been able to wait. Neither had he.

She yawned and stretched, turning and draping herself across him. She liked his bigness, his solidness. She hadn’t felt this safe since she had run away from home.

“Ask me again in the morning,” she told him, and knew he would.
