I listened to this one on audiobook and I. am. blown. away. Not only by the fact that the entire novel is written in verse and every line is worth highlighting and relistening to, but the story itself is so well done. A Dominican teen in NYC struggling with identity and belonging, and finding power through poetry. While listening to this I really felt like I was there with the characters, getting a better understanding of the culture they grew up in. Highly recommend the audiobook for this one.

This book is told from the perspective of Bhima, an old woman who is a servant in India. The title of the book is perfect. Although Bhima spends most her day in the same house as her employer, there is an almost infinite space between their lifestyles, worries, dreams etc. The book really pulls the curtain back on what goes on in the life and mind of a servant and how much abuse they put up with just so they can keep their livelihood. The plot started out kind of slow but really picked up at the end. It's an easy read and I really enjoyed the author’s writing.
