Google’s New Chatbot, Bard: What You Need to Know
A Brief Guide to Google’s New Chatbot, Bard
Tumblr media
Google has launched a new chatbot called Bard, which is currently being tested by a limited number of people in the US and the UK. The technology, which competes with similar offerings from Microsoft and OpenAI, is being released cautiously to control unexpected behavior. Bard is deployed as a service separate from Google’s search engine and other products.
Bard is designed for a range of casual uses, such as generating ideas, writing blog posts, and answering questions with facts or opinions. It is not intended to be a search engine, but rather an experimental system that shows people the possibilities of this kind of chatbot.
Bard acknowledges its limitations and sometimes makes mistakes. It is based on a large language model, or LLM, a type of AI technology that learns by analyzing vast amounts of data from the internet. It generates new text every time you type in a prompt and may answer the same question in different ways.
Tumblr media
Unlike some similar technologies, Bard tends to avoid providing medical, legal, or financial advice to prevent the spread of incorrect information. It also refuses to answer some questions to avoid generating incorrect information about specific individuals.
Bard annotates some responses so users can review its sources, and it plugs into Google’s vast index of websites to provide up-to-date information. However, this can sometimes lead to less reliable sources, such as when it cited a blog written in a mix of English and Chinese to answer a question about the most important moment in American history.
In conclusion, Bard is a new chatbot from Google that offers a range of casual uses and acknowledges its limitations. While it may make mistakes and generate new text every time you type in a prompt, it is designed to avoid providing incorrect information about medical, legal, or financial matters and specific individuals.
