Overjoyed, Baltimore, 2020 . The mural is a collaboration between myself, Schaun Champion photographer and source for many of the models, and Sarah Ruberto owner of @pomona.floral who produced the flower crown arrangements specifically for the project. . After hosting a design conversation with community stakeholders and developing proposals for a design committee, it was decided that an open and joyous, welcoming gesture was most appropriate for the site. Considering this wall sits an an important intersection for local transportation history and that the 32nd street farmers market is such a beloved aspect of the neighborhood, a composition with flowing floral arrangements and past street scenes from Waverly was ultimately developed. . Many thanks to Central Baltimore Partnership for the funding through their Spruce Up Grant program, @waverlymainst for applying for and administering the grant and community engagement, and Greenmount Partners for the private funding and wall donation. Wall of Pride: Back to the Future ❤️🖤💚 The Wall of Pride was painted between 1976-1977 by Pontella Mason and Avon Martin as a dedication to former president Jimmy Carter. Over the years the mural wall fell into disrepair, and the mural was damaged. Mural artist Ernest Shaw (@eshaw_art) took on a new project on the exterior wall of 1601 Cartey Street. In 2020, the #Baltimore Mural Program worked closely with Deborah Mason and community stakeholders to reimagine the Wall of Pride using matching Funds from the Municipal Art Society of Baltimore City. “Bloom” New mural in Boise, Idaho Boise as a topography is defined by the distinction between the landscape and the European structures that erupt from the earth. One site where this contrast is most evident is the Idaho Capitol Building. Tourtellotte and Hummel derived their architectural inspiration from St. Peter’s Basilica in Rome, St Paul's Cathedral in London and the U.S. Capitol in Washington, D.C. In this fashion, the fantasy of reviving old Greek traditions and design during this country’s national expansion was imposed upon the surrounding foothills. This mural seeks to visualize the explosive nature of contemporary politics as our nation contends with its heritage, its Eurocentric traditions, and as citizens question the effectiveness of our institutions to democratically attend to our needs. Rather than be expressly anti-federalist, the wildflowers bursting from the cracks of the exploding capitol provide a sense of exciting new life. This contradiction between crumbling façade and blossoming flowers creates a sense of ambiguity and openness.
