Pro Life, 2017 by (@lucasraynaud) for "EXCEPTED", Screen printed halftone images of wounded Syrian child pasted onto wooden box frame and painted with aerosol and acrylic, 53.5 x 47 in. A moving and timely exhibit, the work is on view and available now on @artsy and in our online gallery, http://gallery38.com/shop * In using the word Excepted, the intent is to demonstrate exclusion while verbally sounding like acceptance. The exhibit will feature all new works by Lucas Raynaud, mixed media pieces as well as interactive installations that will highlight the use of religion, politics and changing narratives to strip human beings of rights as well as aide. The artist’s attempt is not to attack people with different views than himself but rather to challenge the audience and really hold up a magnifying glass to their beliefs to see if they still hold up. The exhibit will use flags over light boxes, large screen prints and woodwork installations to pose different questions. Terms such as “All Lives Matter” are used to counter activists and silence their fight, so the artist challenges the term to see if the people that use those statements really believe it. We are in a time in which many of the religions and groups that are based on love and compassion are now the leaders in the fight to oppress. The artist’s goal is to challenge that and to leave the audience with the options to either fight for those in need or stop pretending that you care. Gallery 38 is located at 5376 W. See you all tomorrow night as Gallery 38 presents "ENTRANCE”, a group show highlighting seven emerging contemporary artists. This show focuses on these artists interpretations of their entry into the art world. They unabashedly share their feelings, thoughts and emotions that go into creating their work not just for self, but also for public ridicule and consumption. Jason Humphrey (@originalinkart) uses the meticulous medium of pen and ink stipple to tap into the innate creativity of his subconscious. Anthony Fuentes (@furfountains) is a visual artist that only wants to satisfy the viewer with surreal images of beauty. Catherine C. Czerwinski's (@ccczerwinski) work falls into the category of abstract expressionism, with a consistent focus on color and texture, and a stylistic tendency attributed to The Interaction of Color by Josef Albers. Ebony Lewis (@ebonylewisart) is a two dimensional artist specializing in acrylic painting. "I am destined to become successful when it comes to art I completely understand that roadblocks and trials and tribulations may come my way but a dream deferred is not a dream lost." Oogum Leftfoot's evolving work can be best described as primitive surrealism with influences from masters of the arts such as Basquiat and Picasso. Known for his line work and innovative characters, Oogum is a mixed media artist ranging from drawing, painting, and graphic design. As an artist, Renda Writer (@rendawriter)stands firmly behind the central idea expressed in his artist statement, “My goal as an artist is to make my handwriting into visual art and to shed light on the general idea that handwriting can be seen as art, reminding viewers that the art is in what the words say, how they look, and how they’re written.” Robert Miller (@canvasbully) aka “Canvas Bully” represents the artistic taking of aggression and transforming it into something positive in the form of art.
