I was working with an item today that just utterly flabbergasted a part of me (the other was deeply frustrated with the catalogue record AS SOMEONE APPARENTLY THOUGHT IT WAS PRINTED ON SILK, coming back to that in a minute) … but ANYWAYS … said item is a replica of a medieval manuscript prayer book THAT IS ENTIRELY WOVEN out of grey and black silk … WOVEN … text, images, intricate grey scale, WOVEN … NOT PRINTED …
And it’s flabbergasting because it’s from 1888, Jacquard machine, IT USED PUNCH CARDS to weave these intricate pages … something like 400 weft per near square inch … IT looks like a page of textured paper, but it’s not, it’s entirely SILK … F*CK …
Anyways …
#my father in law worked with some of the very first computers#my husband tells me often about the punch cards#NOW WE KNOW WHERE IT COMES FROM!#mind blown#fiber arts. what cant you do??

Hey, Tumblr... wtf is wrong with you?!
@staff , why is a horse refusing to eat gingerbread men considered potentially mature content?! Fix your stuff.

One of my favorite things about Leverage is when a bad guy points a gun at Eliot and there’s that moment of,”well, this is gonna be awkward for you,” that crosses Eliot’s face.

People with herding breeds!!
What do you do about car chasing? We can't walk Boomer anywhere without him lunging to try to chase any passing vehicles, even if they are a block or two up the road from us. I have yet to find a way to redirect or distract him and am not exactly sure how to handle this.

@monstrousproductions this feels familiar
realtor whose entire career is just selling (and re-selling and re-selling) the same haunted house
it transpires this is a longstanding con, in which the house (which is hugely haunted) is an active participant

Embroidered Sculptures Recreate Lifelike Mushrooms, Lichen, and Fungi in Thread
by Grace Ebert - Colossal, February 25, 2022
Amanda Cobbett suspends a singular moment in the fleeting lives of fungi by stitching their likeness in thread. The textile artist photographs and gathers specimens that she brings back to her Surrey Hills-based studio, where she finds fibers to match pale green lichens and golden chanterelles. Using a free-motion embroidery technique on a sewing machine, she then stitches multiple layers onto a piece of dissolvable fabric that, once the organism is complete, is washed away to leave just the mushroom or mossy bark intact. As a scroll through her Instagram reveals, the resulting sculptures are so realistic in color, shape, and size that it’s difficult to distinguish the artist’s iterations from their counterparts.
Currently, Cobbett is preparing a collection that will head to the Artful Craft exhibition at Make Southwest, which opens on April 2.

Doing my part to bring a little magic back to the world for the neighborhood kids.
I was on a short mental health walk down to the canal, only to be disappointed by how many mimosa and pine trees (huge! Huge pine trees!) people had cut down. So I headed back home past the little playground, planning to sit for a few minutes and remember playing with grandchild there.
I waved hi to a couple of kids on bikes, and then the ice cream truck went flying by.
I have no idea why, but this guy always goes suuuuper fast instead of dawdling for people to catch him. I knew my husband had to have seen him zoom past, with our usual frustration of him being uncatchable.
So as the kids’ heads came up and they started to yearn, I called out “If you can catch him, I’ll buy!”
They were off like a shot, although one of them turned back and yelled, “but how will YOU catch him?” I replied, “I’ll be there, go!”
See, the road loops up there, and the ice cream guy always comes back past our place so I was sure he’d take the loop. The kids followed behind him the long way and I trotted to the loop, listened, took off my flats so they wouldn’t fly off without me, and RAN.
And there he was coming around the curve towards me. I flagged him down and waved to the kids, who were just coming around the curve behind him, shouting.
“How did you know?! How did you do that?!”
“Told you I’d be here :D What would you guys like?”
They got their stuff (bomb pops and some kind of Italian ice thing) and I got our stuff (with their advice on what to get for my sister-in-law), and I wish I’d remembered to ask the guy to slow down so we could buy from him more often.
And they asked again, how did I do that?! I gave them my husband’s favorite answer, “You have to be smarter than the truck! I figured he was going to loop around, but I was hoping you’d slow him down if he tried to leave the neighborhood.”
The taller one gave me a huge hug.
I hope I see them around again, and I hope I gave them as much magic as that hug gave me 🥰
