How to use PyInstaller to Convert Py to Exe in Python

Python is a coding language that is used by several coders worldwide. This programming language is very popular in many parts of the world. Some of the reasons why a lot of coders utilize this language is because it is not that difficult to learn, it takes less lines to code a program and it also has a lot of libraries to use.

When you create an application in python the file will be saved with a .py extension.  The problem with this is that the file will only be good to use in an python environment, so outside it, it would be useless.

So what is the solution?

Well there are ways around this issue where we can use a python file to run outside the python environment so that you can use it on numerous operating systems and computers, just like regular software files. In this article I will reveal in a short tutorial on how we can do this by using a tool called Pyinstaller.

Pyinstaller is a library used in python to convert py to exe, which is an executable file that can run on numerous operating systems and computers. This doesn't mean that if you convert an file on a Windows machine, it will work on a MAC machine.  You will have to convert it on the MAC machine for this to work.

You will need to install the library in your python interpreter to use it. You can visit the website right here. 

To install the library in Windows just open up the command prompt window and type:

pip install pyinstaller

Once the library is installed you are ready to utilize it. When you open up Pyinstaller make sure you display the path to your script in your shell program.

Example:

pyinstaller options… ~/myproject/source/myscript.py

or, on Windows,

pyinstaller "C:\Documents and Settings\project\myscript.py"

Below are examples of commands that you can use to convert your python files to exe.

This is how to convert a py file as onefile:

pyinstaller --onefile --windowed phonebook.py

This is how to convert a py file using an icon:

pyinstaller --onefile --windowed --icon=owl.ico  phonebook.py

This is how to convert a py file with an icon and including multiple files which comes under add data in your python program. Below we are including 2 files, photo1.jpg and photo2.jpg:

pyinstaller --onefile --windowed --icon=owl.ico --add-data "photo1.jpg;photo1.jpg" "photo2;photo2" phonebook.py

Note: When you add multiple files to the conversion, you have to type in the same file twice separated between a semi-colon like this: "photo1.jpg;photo1.jpg"

Commands:

--clean:  Clean PyInstaller cache and remove temporary files before building.

--onefile:  Create a one-file bundled executable.

--add-data <SRC;DEST or SRC:DEST>:  Additional non-binary files or folders to be added to the executable. The path separator is platform specific, os.pathsep (which is ; on Windows and : on most unix systems) is used. This option can be used multiple times.

--windowed: Windows and Mac OS X: do not provide a console window for standard i/o.

Finding Proxies Online Using a Port Scanner

What are proxies?

Proxies are IP addresses from proxy servers. When you send out a request to visit a website, a proxy server will act like the middle person between your computer and the destination of the machine that is hosting the website that you are requesting to visit.

Let's say you want to visit a website which may have banned your IP address from any access to it. The way around this problem is by using a proxy server to access the data for you.

So your request to the website will go through to the proxy server first, then the proxy server will send your request to the website, get all the information from it and send the information back to your machine without the website even noticing your IP address.

The server hosting the website will only see the proxy server’s IP address since it’s the proxy server that is accessing the data.

Be aware that this only depends on what type of proxy server you are using. Not all proxy servers hide your IP address, but that is another story to the topic I am going to talk about.

There are tons of free public proxies out there on the web that you can use. Since they are free, this means that a lot of them are not that great in quality. But today I will show you how to look for decent ones using this great method.

Scanning for proxies

So now we can scan IP addresses using these port numbers. Let’s open up the Vexa Proxy Scraper software and click on the Port Scanner button to open up the built-in port scanner.

Type in the same IP addresses in both text boxes. The last digits on the IP address will be different because they will be the IP range that we’ll be searching the ports for.

Click on the Scan button and Viola, the software will do its thing.

Checking Proxy Results
