okay, so i finished watching the owl house (i actually finished it a week ago lol) and finished watching danny motta's reaction video... i am so depressed 😭😭
the owl house filled this hole inside of me that i didn't know existed. and it's so fucking sad yet infuriating at the same time how disney really had the balls to cancel this amazing show just because it didn't fit the "disney brand", like be so fr! danny said smth that really encapsulated my feelings towards the show: "someone had to script this, someone had to draw it, then it was voice acted, and put on someone's desk; and they said 'stop'".
but anyways, let's get into the fun stuff!!
the magic system in this show was so amazing to see, i love how luz is able to learn magic by using the glyphs which was very unique to see. and the natural growth she had throughout the show really made it seem different than her just being the chosen one.

as a hispanic girl raised in a catholic family with christian relatives as well, i don't know if this was done on purpose, but i love how the burning isles could be an allegory for "hell" since they have witches and demons, things often depicted as demonic beings.

also, the lgbtq+ representation in this show *chef's kiss* it felt so seamless and not at all forced like recent shows have tried to do. the fact we have a character representing every part of the community is smth i loved to see.

king being a baby titan was so unexpected to see and frustrating at the same time because we will never get to see him evolve into his final, true form.

i know hunter was shown in the background of s1 but once he was officially introduced he became my favorite character and it definitely had to do with the byeee!! thing he does because i also talk like that lol

the episode where hooty tries to help everyone at the owl house and crashing the fuck out every time he though he'd failed my absolute favorite ep! he's just too precious for his own good 😭

raine instantly made their way into my heart, i can tell why eda was so infatuated by them. i also hated how they were always suffering like, we thought they were being brainwashed, and then they were taken by the collector, then possessed by fucking belos... like my baby just wanted to play music and be part of a band!

also can we talk about how terrifying the collector is? they're literally too strong for their own good, like the way he just moved the moon with his finger? turning everyone into puppets? 😧 i hadn't been this terrified of an antagonist since bill cipher! their shadow form was scary in a way that was unpredictable but their physical form is just a child with powers that transcend space and time.

eda is my grunkle stan! she's just too iconic for her own good

i will also never get over the fact that lilith was the one that cursed eda, but the way she revealed it?! goated as fuck! i still haven't really forgiven her but her friendship with hooty was adorable to see ngl

all in all, i absolutely loved the show and i'm also gonna start to watch amphibia since a lot of people suggested to watch after the owl house and gravity falls but damn... it sucks it was cancelled too early because it could've been so much better than it was.
i feel like i’m getting into things so late so, sorry for being annoying about it but i rlly get the hype of the owl house now!
i’m currently on s2ep7 and i’m so fucking hooked!!

this is what i told my 9 year old niece who calls herself a "big back" and i know she means it in a joking way, but i did let her know that it wasn't really the best thing to call yourself or other people, idk if she understood the point i was trying to get at tho since she does have adhd
not to say things on main but it’s kinda fucked up that the mockery and torment of fat people, especially fat kids, is still considered socially acceptable

since i've reinvigorated my love for writing again, i started looking at my drafts and, a few things to note:
my writing, albeit cringy and notable for my age back then, really did have good fluidity and great continuity
i used to be more creative and imaginative
most of the drafts i have no idea when i wrote them, or what i was trying to do lol
but i will be rewriting and coming up with new ideas in hopes to bring back this side of myself...

The Materialists sucked ass!

I went to see The Materialists on its release day, dressed up in a very business casual outfit to try to match the movie's vibe, and I left feeling very disappointed. I then drowned my sorrows at Wingstop and with alcohol.
Let me explain... SPOILERS AHEAD ig
Dakota Johnson = Lucy, matchmaker
Pedro Pascal = Harry, finance
Chris Evans = John, struggling actor
Despite the initial confusion of the intro scene, it started off very beautifully, following Lucy and how she lives out a day at work. She gets invited to a wedding of one of her clients, where she meets Harry, and he's almost immediately intrigued by her, listening to the conversation Lucy was having with the other women at the party.
This whole scene was in the trailers of her talking to Harry and then John pops up and thus begins the love triangle.
We soon find out that Lucy and John are actually exes, and we get a flashback scene of them arguing on their 5 YEAR anniversary date. Lucy wanted to eat a nice restaurant but John didn't want to pay $25 for parking, she gets frustrated and gets out the car. He apologizes and tells her he doesn't actually have any money, and he also forgot about their anniversary.
Another thing we find out is her parents were always fighting about money and it was something she had never wanted to do with her future partners. She never wanted to struggle financially because she never wanted to become her parents, which is why she's incredibly hardworking and her type is an insanely rich man.
And when Lucy and John reconnect once again, John is still in the same place he was when they were together. Still living with roommates at 30 something, still struggling to become a theater actor and not wanting to do commercials because he "doesn't like to" 😒
Compared to Harry who wine and dines her, he takes her out on various dates and they get to know each other. The whole purpose of them dating is she wants to prove to him how bad of a match she is for him but he's very smitten with her, and after one of their dates they go back to his penthouse and have sex (they don't show it btw).
The next morning, she wakes up alone and I genuinely thought it was gonna end badly, like once he had her he'd be uninterested, but no! When she goes into living room / dining room, he's there with breakfast already served and pouring her coffee, he gives her a key and a kiss before he leaves for work 😩😩
There's also a sexual assault subplot but I can't speak on those scenes mainly because I had to pee during the movie so I lost context on that scene therefore, I don't know what happens. If you saw what happened, please let me know because I feel incomplete lol
Anyways, Lucy and Harry are now dating. He's a gentleman, he's a decent human being, he even takes her to go see her ex's play like... perfect man!
Like I said, I lost a huge chunk of the story so by the time I got back Harry was asleep and she was laying down next to him, still awake and she notices that he had scars on one of his legs- she's caressing the scars- and he immediately covers his legs, and then just gets up and leaves the room.
When this happened, I also got scared thinking he was gonna get violent especially when she follows him to the kitchen. I was trying to find a reason as to why she wasn't gonna stay with him because, at this point, they were already painting that she was going to break up with him. But he remained respectful. Apparently, him and his brother (the groom from the wedding she attended at the first part of the movie) had gotten surgery to become taller and appear more desirable to women.
After this, she tells him she doesn't love him and they break up. Admittedly, this scene was hilarious as hell especially because he bends down to the height he was before, and then they hit a wide shot and everyone at my theater lost it.
She can't go home because she sublet her apartment for a week since they were supposed to go to Iceland, so what does she do? She goes to her ex's place, but he says no because, in all realness, it's a fucking mess! Instead, he takes her upstate because he had gotten paid from his play, so they're driving and they bump into the catering company he works for and they snuck into a wedding.
They talk and he does tell her why she shouldn't choose him, but she does in the end.
And I'm not saying that you should always choose the rich guy over the poor man, but in this case, yes! John is a very proud, poor man with a closed off mindset; he doesn't have ambition or a drive to get himself out of the situation he was in, and he projected his failures onto her. If John had all the money in the world, he'd still be a poor man.
Lucy chose to be exactly like her parents, the one thing she never wanted be. And at the end of the movie, she gets a promotion and she had been considering quitting her job, like girl...!!!
The cinematography was beautiful but the script was a bit weird, and repetitive. This was such a disappointment of a movie.

🧵 THREAD: This #PrideMonth, don’t forget that the fight for queer liberation didn’t start or end with marriage equality.
💪✨ We need to keep fighting for our rights.
Here’s are a few examples:
💋 Before the 2003 Supreme Court ruling in Lawrence v. Texas, same-smex smexual activity was illegal in fourteen U.S. states, Puerto Rico, and the U.S. military
👶 Before 2015, LGBTQ+ couples couldn’t adopt in all 50 states. Before the Supreme Court ruling in Obergefell v. Hodges, laws varied wildly by state.
🏳️🌈 Before 1973, the American Psychiatric Association listed homosmexuality as a ‘mental illness.’ In December 1973, a vote was successfully held to remove it.
🗳️ Before 1974, there were no openly gay elected officials. That changed with Kathy Kozachenko, who became the first openly gay American elected to public office in Ann Arbor, Michigan.
🎖️ Before 2011, “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell” banned LGBTQ+ people from serving openly in the military.
💍 Before 2015, LGBTQ+ couples couldn’t get married in all 50 states. At the time, laws varied by state, and while many states allowed for civil unions for same-sex couples, it created a separate but equal standard.
💼 Before 2020, employers could legally discriminate against queer and trans employees. It wasn’t until the U.S. Supreme Court held that an employer who fires or otherwise discriminates against an individual simply for being gay or transgender is in violation of Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964.
