Throwback to that time when Mike pollock (eggmans voice actor on sonic boom) got cancelled/exposed for supporting Israel and he did a twitter space afterwards and tons of people were essentially just making fun of him and there was a guy pretending to be shadow the hedgehog and lecturing him while doing a cringe impression which somehow became controversial

Autistic Steven universe yap warning ‼️ (I’m not rlly a fan of the show anymore but it was a major special interest when I was like 11).

I saw this on threads and it reminded me of how when I was younger I used to see Steven’s age as totally unrealistic, but honestly it kinda makes sense now that I’m older. Maybe he’s a bit immature for the average 14 year old, sure, but he grew up primarily talking to the three gems and his dad; if I recall correctly, it’s implied that he didn’t have friends at the start of the series, even. Additionally, his dad and the gems may have been infantilizing him so much when he was growing up to the point where it may have made him mature slower (this can happen). This may also explain why his shtick is about him being all for peace and love, as he was influenced so much more than others by his age about over simplified crunchy granola tenets typically taught to younger children. Meanwhile, as he got older and turned 16, he seemed to catch up in maturity very well, as he was now talking to some people closer to his age in addition to many more people in general.

Howeverrr, I thought of another explanation as well. Since he didn’t interact with many people, maybe he’s more of an insight as to how a 14 year old would actually act without peer pressure.
