Lately I’ve been feeling an urge to go over some of my assorted fandom aus and try to modify them into new original characters and settings… Some of them were already so divergent or expanded to begin with, it doesn’t take too much tweaking to turn it into a fairly distinct concept.
But the one au that would be IMPOSSIBLE for me to give this treatment to is Wildcards. That thing is too inextricably tied to all of its source materials. If you get rid of or change any one major element it loses it’s charm, I think.

How long?!
Displacement after displacement, where do we go?
How long will things remain like this?
Hasn't the occupying usurper had enough of displacing, starving and humiliating us?
Please help us survive this brutal genocide.😭

We have to evacuate immediately.
Help us survive 💔Every donation, no matter how small, helps us 🙏🙏🙏

40,000 years ago, early humans painted hands on the wall of a cave. This morning, my baby cousin began finger painting. All of recorded history happened between these two paintings of human hands. The Nazca Lines and the Mona Lisa. The first TransAtlantic flight and the first voyage to the Moon. Humanity invented the wheel, the telescope, and the nuclear bomb. We eradicated wild poliovirus types 2 and 3. We discovered radio waves, dinosaurs, and the laws of thermodynamics. Freedom Riders crossed the South. Hippies burned their draft cards. Countless genocides, scientific advancements, migrations, and rebellions. More than a hundred billion humans lived and died between these two paintings—one on a sheet of paper, and one on the inside of a cave. At the dawn of time, ancient humans stretched out their hands. And this morning, a child reached back.

okokok reblog and tag ONE. ONE. character design trait you wish you saw more. deliberate and choose, and don't be noble about it. mine is simply characters that wear their hair in two braids without having to be infantilized or "little girl"s about it

So I went a lil AU crazy...
NOT ALL AT ONCE MIND YOU - a lot of these were in the works and either mostly finished or uh..... started last week and ended up becoming 74 pages and five chapters
whoops
Tumblr media
Anyway I blame @genaleah for coming up with the wildcards to begin with and I'm proud to present the hot new AU within an AU - GHOSTS
Basically a what-if scenario where instead of being the only dead guy amongst the wildcard group, Manny Calavera is the only ALIVE one. And not only is he alive - but because of a near death experience, he's been gifted with the ability to interact with the dead, and wishes he'd kept the receipt. Yet his skills are invaluable to an organization like the Psychonauts, who regularly deals with the paranormal in this, and even bring on ghosts as agents themselves to deal with supernatural happenings.
Here's the one where he wakes up in the hospital and finds out about his new skills-
-here's another where he gets his first assignment-
-And here's that big one where I learned writing Elaine is really fun and wrote how she and Guybrush met in this AU.
And if you can even believe it, all this? Ain't even the longest thing I've written this year. Wildcard fans keep your eyes on this account ;)

I remember back in my compulsory education they taught us to use the keyboard like this but I don’t think I’ve ever seen a single person type like this ever.

As AI art gets harder to clock, I feel like we are going to need to have a discussion about attribution and it's probably going to bum some people out.
Because the surest way to avoid platforming, reblogging, or encouraging AI art posting is to know where every image you share originated and that's 1) boring, tedious research and 2) extremely limiting in what you feel you can reblog. But if unattributed images never gets traction, people will start attributing their images.
I've been guilty of this in the past, but for a while now it's been my policy that if I can't verify the origin, I don't share the image. That goes for stuff like screen grabs of headlines too -- more than once I've avoided spreading misinformation by saving a post to research before I reblog, then seeing the post refuted before I've been able to verify it.
And I usually try to attribute photos I take -- case in point, the "woman with shrimp" post gets a lot of attention but not one comment about it being AI, despite it being pretty similar to something you'd get from an AI. That's because I clearly state it's in a museum and link to its catalogue page.
I'm not saying this to scold anyone -- I think yelling at the Internet to cite its sources is very much a losing game -- but because I don't see this discussed much. We're such fertile ground to be fooled by AI art because we've grown accustomed to not questioning the origins of any given image. And of course I also want to encourage both OPs to attribute their images and rebloggers to verify unattributed ones.
