Bronze casting is not exactly a “fast” process. A very patient collector has been waiting for this cast for way too long. Also, folks - my old little makita grinder is starting to die. I’m so excited for “Wayward: In from the Wild”, and its artist reception this Saturday from 1-4pm. The @waywardretreats art retreat has been a huge part of my life for the past few years. Oh deer. Flame Horned Deer. 5” long x 3” deep x 5” tall. Wood fired porcelain with stoneware horns. The ash really did a number on this beast - soupy rivulets and tiny blue crystals. Gnaw, 2018. 4” wide x 3” long x 3” tall. Wood fired porcelain. The wood kiln was very nice to this lovely little beast. I can never predict the colors or effects - it turns the whole process into a collaboration with the fire. This little Egg Eater has perhaps the highest concentration of crystals that I’ve ever gotten on a beast. These crystals - the speckles - are unpredictable, and grow in the wood ash from the firing.
