I feel like the genloss could’ve been a lot better if sneeg and ranboo spent more effort trying to be funny. Like straightman and funnyman duo maybe? I think they weren’t used to actual physical performance comedy but it was still just generally awkward and maybe trying to use tried and tested comedy techniques would’ve helped a lot. Or maybe they should’ve leaned more into improv comedy aspect. It was definitely funny in some moments but that was mainly other people and they were way to weak in that aspect considering how big a role they played

you're so right. i feel like everyone generalizes genloss as being completely unfunny but i definitely still enjoyed bits. if they had actually done more i think it would've been amazing

honestly? I don’t know if you’ll answer but whatevs. But the fanon people had before the actual streams was so much cooler. The worst part is that i really, REALLY liked a lot of the concepts and some character designs in Genloss but it just…fell flat on it’s face. Anyways, i’m gonna be delulu and make up a au in my head to compensate

Just found this blog so sorry that this is probably old news but I just really want to talk about it.

As someone who’s been acting for six years and has primarily done improv work in that time, it is extremely painful to watch generation loss. I haven’t even seen more than 30 minutes of it because of the clear lack of direction and awkward improv “comedy” within the first episode. I’m really disappointed, especially because of the huge build-up before it aired and how so many people consider the series to be this amazing and revolutionary form of live-streamed media when it’s just…. Mediocre at best.

Considering how much work, time, and money went into the project, you’d think Ranboo and the other streamers would have had acting classes and a clear outline of where to direct the scenes before performing the show LIVE. You can still rehearse, even if it’s improv. In fact, you SHOULD rehearse those improv scenes considering this is meant to be a pre-written storyline that the improv follows along. That way you can work out what works and what doesn’t work in scenes (this includes both dialogue and actions performed because seriously we did not have to waste that much time on a cooking segment.) It will still be improv, even if you have a “point A to point B” plan because the dialogue/actions created in between planned moments will still be organic scenes that changes and evolves in each take. At least then your audience won’t have to sit through thirty minutes of actors figuring out what the hell they’re supposed to be doing on stage.

Sorry for the rant, it’s just frustrating to see praise for a project that somehow managed to have a cast avoid acting classes the entire time before airing. Minecraft roleplay with friends does not prepare someone for on-stage improv, you’re not an actor just because your dsmp character was edgy oh my god!!

Well the boobers managed a Streamer Awards nomination but I definitely can't see Gen Loss winning. Who knows, maybe I'll be proven wrong because it is realistically a popularity contest but the quality just does not match up.

Sorry if you’ve moved on from this but. Still rather miffed that the title of Generation Loss was wasted on a series that, as of yet, has done nothing with the concept.

I thought the title of a piece was supposed to tell you something about it? And yet.

i watched gen loss yesterday because i’m a huge jerma fan and i heard jerma was in it. i only somewhat knew who ranboo was. the pacing just seemed so bad, the cooking bit in ep 1 took 30 minutes and featured zero funny moments or important details. the whole show seems like it was not thought out much, but maybe my expectations were just too high, after experiencing the jerma dollhouse live. and there were so many things that just went nowhere or had no explanation. was i supposed to start with some prior knowledge?

jerma is the only funny character and obviously the only person who can improv. oh and slimecicle but hes unfunny. austin said one thing and kept saying that thing until he died. so boring. nobody was acting like how a real person might in these situations. i think its because some of them including ranboo are being mind controlled by showfall but bad acting is still bad acting even if you are acting as someone who is bad at acting.

the show just wasn’t scary at all too. i thought it would be a horror experience but i can’t take this seriously when none of the charcters do. nikki seemed to be the only person behaving how an actual person might in that situation on the carousel, but suddenly she is happy and fine? did she get mind controlled while i blinked?

what is this show trying to do? i honestly dont know. there are jokes, but few are funny (aside from jerma being the best character in the show). its called horror despite the fact that it is not scary. i cant take this seriously as horror media when none of the characters do. this is equivalent to the three stooges if they tried to present their act as a serious depiction of getting bonked on the head, and they were also not reacting when getting bonked on the head.

in summary jerma is funny and the show is bad.

i finally sat down to watch genloss and holy shit how can you fuck up pacing so bad. i gave up 1,5 hours (and it's a stretch) in because i had all life sucked out of me. this is so dreadful and also awkward. were the characters actually written or were the streamers just given the general direction and told to act out their streamer personas?

been a hot second since i've thought about genloss but i think they were allowed to do anything they wanted, at least for second stream w all the guests. i think charlie and sneeg probably had input but to a lesser extent but i don't remember if anything's been said about them specifically

OH ALSO. This is from the mark and jack anon but, Jack did the "people being so parasocial and obsessed in the Internet" metaphor so much better in his IR/IS project. Saury. The scene where the antagonist of the story pulled the watchers from the camera into the world of the story itself to make them witness the consequences of their actions hit so much harder as a message with how he presented it.

I think it's funny that genloss is such... It's such a fail. As someone who is an enthusiast for ARGs, the implication that GenLoss is a good arg is?? It's so insulting to the ARG creators who have done so much to create their projects. I'm a Jack fan and Ranboo saying that GenLoss is the one of the best interactive livestream is so funny too because in twitch, that that belongs to Jerma's dollhouse stream which is still fantastic even to this day. While even Jack's I/RIS project which was something that's a comeback for his egos project is so much more enjoyable to watch over and over again, especially in terms of community interaction with both the story and the community itself as they actually worked together to try and piece the story pieces together that were being shown through the setting.

Not to mention the lore videos that even further introduced the world that many of the J/SE e/go community fandom had been waiting for.

I think the person who mentioned Mark's progression on his own ego projects and personal projects made a great point.

Ranboo, unlike these two, immediately plunged himself into such a massive project without seemingly... It doesn't seem so planned. Sure, I can forgive that he's not even past his twenties but... 1 million?? It's too much and it reeks of well... recklessness.

Smaller projects could have worked better. If he spent some time like... maybe expounding more on the videos that was in the genloss youtube channel, I think it would have provided a more cohesive storyline and allowed the watchers to be more invested in the characters RATHER THAN just the people who are playing them.

Like I see Genloss!Ranboo and I just think... oh. That's basically just Ranboo himself. Which I guess?? Could be related to the storyline lore itself but when you look at it closer it just doesn't make further sense. (This is going to be a bit mean but even DSMP!Ranboo had more of a character going on compared to genloss!ranboo)

Sorry for rambling on about this. I just have so much thoughts about the people who had often in the past defended Ranboo's project's flaws going well it's not like other famous youtubers haven't done a similar thing.

But like. Mark's and Jack's characters were from comedic skits that they further developed even if they were basically raised by the community hcs and everything. Sure, ego projects were popular back then but those two made their own projects in their own way. Mark's are a lot more cinematic while Jack's were in the more community interactive arg way.

Meanwhile, Ranboo wants to have all their pie made in a mix of those ways immediately without truly understanding what made it such a hit with those respective communities.

Anyway. Saury for being such a Mark and Jack fan in your asks. It just rubs me the wrong way when some people say they've already done it so much better than Mark and Jack just because of their high budget sets.

the only reason theres a whole "character escapes the set" thing in genloss is because ranboo is a fan of portal and you cannot convince me otherwise. with the sheer amount of stuff hes "parodying" (its more like stealing, bc hes not adding anything), i wouldnt be at all shocked if the entire plot of the 1st gen is just silly british orb game but with ranboo as the main character and instead of funny jokes and a cohesive and well thought out plot theres shitty improv, the most basic concept for a plot (which was probably taken from portal), and the most on the nose references ever probably
