New #folklore inspired art - drawn by me on my iPhone - all rights reserved — “And you’d come back to me...” Sorry it’s been a while since I last posted! Thank you very much to all those who’ve messaged me in the meantime. While juggling various personal responsibilities and challenges, I’ve also been working on some new creative projects! I hope to be able to share more with you soon. — “It’s never too late to be brand new...” folklore is a tender breath of fresh air mixed with poignant, soulful nostalgia, and a chance for us to appreciate @taylorswift ‘s songwriting again in a new light. I think that the intense spotlight the news media has put on Taylor’s personal life has made it more difficult at times to just listen and appreciate the artistic resonance of her work. We have often felt Taylor’s storytelling throughout her career has mirrored and echoed experiences from our own lives. By the change of narrative focus in this new album, Taylor shows once again it is not just that her personal struggles are relatable in some way but that she has a great artistic ability to relate her own experiences with the experiences of others to produce moving, evocative work as a songwriter and singer. It’s interesting seeing some of the details people are discovering about different songs from folklore, and but for me, it’s nice right now just to turn Taylor’s new music and let the emotion, the storytelling, and the imagination flow. This is not goodbye... (Things will never be the same) I've been sleeping so long in a 20-year dark night (Now I'm wide awake) And now I see daylight, I only see daylight... I want to thank all the Swifties who have been supportive of my art and stories either at The Swift Life or elsewhere on social media. Your responses to my creativity meant a lot to me, and I really enjoyed sharing new content daily with you. I’ve been thinking about how to carry that energy forward in a new way in the future. I’ve been going through some difficult times for a while now, and feeling 💔 lately, all of which I’m not ready to talk about in detail, but I think things are getting better, and although you haven’t heard much from me lately, I have been working on some new, larger creative projects recently that I hope to finish this year. Thank you so much for choosing to invite @yukitheswiftie to one of your Secret Sessions! Yuki was one of a number of very sweet people I had the privilege to get to know through The Swift Life, and in my view she is definitely one of those most deserving of this rare opportunity.

I still don’t know how closely you were watching TSL, or looking though all those SwiftSent messages, but tonight, seeing Yuki’s happy news made me so, so grateful. I am glad at least one of the people I personally would have picked from TSL to meet you actually made it! Hopefully more will follow...

Yesterday, before the CATS trailer redefined the universe, I made these art images on my iPhone, imagining Taylor as Bombalurina. and posted on my Instagram - getawaycarlovestory. Also, in January, before The Swift Life app closed (my username there was @ christopher ), I made a Taymojiart image of Taylurina, Christigger, Meredith and Olivia. I made over 500 art and story posts at TSL. Since the app closed I’ve been posting old and new art at Instagram. Thinking about becoming active here at Tumblr as well.

For years I asked, pleaded for a chance to own my work. Instead I was given an opportunity to sign back up to Big Machine Records and ‘earn’ one album back at a time, one for every new one I turned in. I walked away because I knew once I signed that contract, Scott Borchetta would sell the label, thereby selling me and my future. I had to make the excruciating choice to leave behind my past. Music I wrote on my bedroom floor and videos I dreamed up and paid for from the money I earned playing in bars, then clubs, then arenas, then stadiums. 

Some fun facts about today’s news: I learned about Scooter Braun’s purchase of my masters as it was announced to the world. All I could think about was the incessant, manipulative bullying I’ve received at his hands for years. 

Like when Kim Kardashian orchestrated an illegally recorded snippet of a phone call to be leaked and then Scooter got his two clients together to bully me online about it. (See photo) Or when his client, Kanye West, organized a revenge porn music video which strips my body naked. Now Scooter has stripped me of my life’s work, that I wasn’t given an opportunity to buy. Essentially, my musical legacy is about to lie in the hands of someone who tried to dismantle it.

This is my worst case scenario. This is what happens when you sign a deal at fifteen to someone for whom the term ‘loyalty’ is clearly just a contractual concept. And when that man says ‘Music has value’, he means its value is beholden to men who had no part in creating it. 

When I left my masters in Scott’s hands, I made peace with the fact that eventually he would sell them. Never in my worst nightmares did I imagine the buyer would be Scooter. Any time Scott Borchetta has heard the words ‘Scooter Braun’ escape my lips, it was when I was either crying or trying not to. He knew what he was doing; they both did. Controlling a woman who didn’t want to be associated with them. In perpetuity. That means forever. 

Thankfully, I am now signed to a label that believes I should own anything I create. Thankfully, I left my past in Scott’s hands and not my future. And hopefully, young artists or kids with musical dreams will read this and learn about how to better protect themselves in a negotiation. You deserve to own the art you make.

I will always be proud of my past work. But for a healthier option, Lover will be out August 23.
