synopsis : walking late at night and someone comes to save you when you really didn’t need saving.

Taking an abnormally long walk late a night through the busy streets of a crowded city seemed like counterintuitive to relaxing after a long day of student stress. Nothing seemed more comforting than being engulfed in the liveliness of the hustling concrete jungle around you yet being so completely left-alone and unnoticed. It was the polar opposite of what you felt during class, everyone not caring about anyone else yet so completely aware of each other. But at that hour and that moment, nothing mattered, as long as your feet carried you somewhere unbeknownst to you and you roamed the streets with no others attention pinned onto you, all your worries left your mind like dust floating away in the wind.

As the soft summer breeze brushed your face, you found yourself staring back at the deep blue water twinkling up at you, reflecting the newly woken stars into your eyes. You watched intently as you were greeted with your distant face, barley visible in the gentle ripples dancing across the water, deep in thought : lips bitten, eyebrows furrowed. To think that these waters were watching you, you - a tiny speck in its ancient memory, witnessing things for years back : wonderful things, events, moments- yet at that at that time, it was witnessing you in thought.

You lean closer, your hands pressing harder against the bar as your body rested on the cold metal which kept you from tumbling into your reflection which laid below you. Ripples distorted the image in the liquid, not so gentle anymore, distributing themselves so rapidly as if they were running from something. You tilted your head and squinted your eyes as you inched closer forward, the cold bar now pressing against your stomach in its last attempt to keep you falling as you strained to look under the metal structure that you were currently situated on.

You were very aware of how dangerous this situation may have looked to someone who were to see you but nobody in the whole of Seoul was watching : in the middle of one of the most populous cities in the world, no one cared to give their attention to even spare glance at you. The only one watching you was the river below you, coincidently the same river who was watching the exact thing you were dying to see. Then you saw it, appearing so fast that you thought it was a fragment of your imagination but slow enough to be caught, a black slither of something swiped across the extensions of the metal poles keeping the very thing you were standing on from crumbling down into the deep waters below you. Without thinking your eyes followed, then your head then your torso, pushing you even further against the bar at your waist, all in attempts to capture the alluring mystery slithering below you.

But before your eyes could even adjust to the darkness something hit your back and a surge of fear struck through your body, and just as quick as it hit you, the force pulled you back, the wind blowing past you due to the rate you were taken. A scream made its way up your throat but it never made it out as the breath was kicked out of you as your back collided with something hard and as arms wrapped around your waist in close proximity.

“Please, don’t jump”

And at that moment, you knew someone was watching.

With shaky hands, you let your fingers reach up to touch the arms clad in a red and blue disguise, your head tilted upwards were your eyes met the masked face your saviour.

“Please” he said, his voice sounding out of breath, “don’t jump”

Never in your mind had you even thought that this worshipped hero would ever interact with you let alone ‘save you’, let alone sounded like he cared for you.

But in that moment, that didn’t matter. Your heart jumped in you ribcage and it wasn’t due to the shock you received seconds before.

“I wasn’t going to” you let out briefly, mind trying to process how close you two were.

“Are you sure? It looked like you were” he said quietly, close to your ear, arms encasing you becoming loose to your dismay.

To stop your cheeks from heating up even more, you stepped away, breaking the barrier that he had around you as he brought his hands back to his sides. You turned, and made eye contact? with the boy in front of you. He was taller than you expected, you had only ever seen him once, swinging from building to building on your way home from school but other than that you had only the photos that appeared on your feed ranging from low quality snapchat videos to photographs from multiple news articles.

To think that this boy who watched over the city every day in his way to protect it and it’s millions of citizens, was watching you.

“I really wasn’t” you let out slowly, glancing back at the pool over the railing, “something just catched my attention”

Your eyes broke away from the enticing waters to look back at the friendly neighbourhood spiderman.

He brought his hand to rub the back of his neck, his head tilting to the side, “okay, but please be carful next time” he said sweetly, looking -you assumed, back at you, “I wouldn’t dare to think what would happen if you did”

Your eyes furrowed at his comment and your tried not to spurt out a “what?” but just allowed yourself to dwell in the confusion he let upon you with his words.

You tried not to think too much about it, he’s a freaking super hero for God’s sake, he’s meant to say things like that. You scolded yourself for letting your imagination get the best of you and cringed in the embarrassment you put upon yourself.

As if he’d have a thing for you, are you fucking stupid?

He let his hand come down to rub his arm and he let out a deep breath, “It’s a bit late, do you often go out at this time?”

You pondered before you answered, “sometimes, just some times”

He nodded his head,” Well, you should be careful, walking alone at night isn’t a good idea, you could get hurt, kidnapped, mugged” he ranted in a way of scolding and warning you but at the same time keeping the same polite and caring tone. You supposed he gave this lecture to many before you, having saved others from situations much worse than yours.

You nodded your head, he was right, “I understand”

He sighed, sensing the change in your emotion “Don’t you have school tomorrow or something?” he questioned.

“I do” you said tiredly, dreading the struggle in the morning, “I should head home”

Somehow your heart dropped, you new after this that there was 0 to little chance that you would ever talk to this boy again, yet here you are trying to leave.

He nodded in agreement, “Just keep an eye out walking home okay? Just- be careful”

You smiled at the sweetness of his messages, a small laugh leaving your throat, “I will, but you’ll be there watching me right?”

You could tell that your words affected him, by the way he shifted his head and the way his posture straightened. You felt proud at this little achievement of yours but deep in you mind you had to remind yourself, “he’s a superhero, he does this all the time, stop over thinking”

And with that you began letting your feet carry you away as you waved towards your temporary guardian angel, “Thank you spiderman”

The hero brought his hand up to waved back at you as he lifted the other up, hand aimed in position, “No problem,” and a long web shot from his wrist, darting away in the distance attaching to one of the tall structures in the concrete jungle you stood in.

“See you around” he saluted as he ran to the edge of the bridge and jumped up and off the railings, swinging away into the buildings which made up the city around you, leaving you smiling at the red and blue blur who was deeply loved by the people of Seoul and starting from that night, you.
