ok yeah so the other day i saw this jokey meme post about people feeling "parasocial" when they laugh along with author's notes on a fic. and yeah it is a funny meme. but it really got me thinking! because i don't think that's parasocial! it's actually just... social!!!!

like i do believe that artists cannot really be "in community" with their fans, but i really do not maintain that opinion when it comes to fanfic. the whole point is that we're ALL fans, right? writers and readers both? so when i write fanfic, it's specifically *because* i want to build and be a part of a community. like there are plenty of forums in which we can make and share art, and i enjoy many of them for different reasons. but when i'm leaving a goofy little author's note on my gay-ass self-indulgent sci-fi stories, that's actually me beggingggg for people to talk to me lmao. and there's this weird distancing thing that happens in the relationship between an artist and the people who admire their work (which again--is very healthy in a lot of contexts!!), where you end up feeling like the artist is almost larger-than-life because they've made you feel all these really cool things and pulled you into a whole different world. but re: this post, that type of distance can really get in the way of building community if we let it. and from the artist's side, it makes the act of creating feel very lonely!!

i spend plenty of time on the other side of this dynamic, too. and i really think it's much harder to be on that side. reading (or watching/viewing/etc.) something i love, realizing that that "larger-than-life" artist is a person just like me, seeking connection just like me. like that is fucking scary lol. but it's worth it!!!! it's so worth it <33 :')

I mean, it depends? lol typically for work I either wear my heydudes, black combat boots, or tan heeled ankle boots. Casually I wear my heydudes or flip flops/sandals. I also have regular tennis shoes for camping/hiking/etc.

Again, I had maaaanyyyyy, as I still do now lol. It is literally impossible for me to choose a singular favorite anything. 8. any reoccurring dreams?

I don't really remember my dreams, if I have them, so I'm not sure. I do know I still get server nightmares from time to time, even though I haven't worked in a restaurant in almost 9 years.

No. I mean, I definitely have a lot of emotions, but do I display them much? Nooo. Heeeeavily masking au-dhd woman, right here. I am a logic-first, solution-based-thinking type of person, though, always have been.

Hmm. I'm going to semi-cheat and lump all the extended versions of LOTR into one film, because I watch it all in one sitting, so that only counts as one 😂 Then I'd probably say like...(good grief this is unnecessarily difficult, there are too many lol) Beauty & the Beast, but then there's also The Little Mermaid and Finding Nemo and Frozen and a million more just animated films that I literally never tire of. Aaaaaand I think I have to throw 10 Things I Hate About You on here, except then there's also Stick It, and She's the Man, and Bring it On, and THERE'S TOO MANY, I'M OVERWHELMED.

9. tell a story about your childhood

Oh, lord. 😂 It's really hard to remember things on the spot like this (she says as though she can't take as much time as she wants to think about it).

I only vaguely remember this, and I can't remember every precise detail, but when I was around 5-6 years old, I got lost. I think I was meant to be walking home from school, which was a few blocks away, but it also could have been me just wandering about the neighborhood, I'm not sure anymore. Anyway, I had very little sense of direction (which is still mostly true to this day), but what I did have was my phone number memorized! Ah, the good old landline...so, I wandered into the first shop I came across and asked to use their phone, and I called my parents. I think the shop owner (or whoever was working) got a kick out of my tiny self; I remember they seemed impressed that I had the presence of mind to do what I did...now I think it was just another sign of my neurodivergence, lol. So, my dad came to pick me up, and I learned that I was literally a block and a half away from our house and definitely should have recognized where I was. Wowww, Gina. Get it together. I still drive past that shop sometimes, though it's closed now and that makes me sad, but then I remember my dad praising me for handling it so well (and then teaching me where the hickety heck we were and how to get home), and that makes me happy. The end!

21. are you a spiritual person?

In short, yes. In long...well, I can't have seen what I've seen and gone through what I've gone through and not believe in some sort of higher power. I don't pretend to have all the answers, but I do believe there is something bigger than myself, something bigger than all of us. I can feel it when I'm out in nature, and in the quietest moments, and I just know.

33. any hobbies?

lol I'm neurodivergent, so...yes, many. 😂 D&D is probably the biggest one, apart from reading/writing. Cross-stitch. Soccer. Music. Board games and card games. And family time, of course.
