Regardless of personal opinion or how you view certain ships, I feel like this influx of “oh men can’t be friends now???” and the whole “Oh their bond is SO strong it exceeds romance!!!” views are getting tiring. Does two men being in genuine romantic love make these people THAT uncomfortable?
Is it only fun to write queer men in a jokingly sexual way that lacks any tenderness and sincerity? Sure Deadpool can make innuendos and leer at men like Colossus and Wolverine but to be in love with a man like he is with Vanessa - is that possible? If he was given a boyfriend would the fans get uncomfortable because now it’s not just a joke?
I feel these shows/movies/etc want their rainbow cake and to eat it too when it comes to men’s queerness. The comedies want their gay jokes but don’t want to commit to anything substantial and the dramas want to pretend to be profound by having the men they’ve written to pine and yearn for one another be simply “more than romantic” despite knowing that if you genderbent one of them they’d be together without question.

It upsets me that they’ve made Saeko the Official Love Interest now. Not because I think she’s a bad match because imo Ichiban can literally go with any of the main cast but because it feels like she’s not part of the main friend group anymore.
Like in the last game there was emphasis on how she didn’t really have anyone to rely on before meeting Ichiban, Nanba and Adachi and they welcomed her in as another member of the team but now it feels like they’ve turned more into a trio and Saeko can barely breathe without some other character mentioning Ichiban… like leave her alone!!!
