what i say: i’m working on a fic!

what i mean: i haven’t written a single word about this. in fact i haven’t held a pen since 2015. every day when i take the train i maldaptive daydream about the possibilities of this fic and how the characters would interact, specifically when they have long intense heated glances across a busy room with enough raw yearning force to set off a jet plane and blueball me into oblivion. yes i have a ‘writing prompts’ tag for no fucking reason. no i can’t spell maladaptive

I think the Sun & Moon style would suit her character really well too! Hopefully we’ll see her get a great battle in it!

How I feel about this character: I adore her!! ;_; I was really happy with her characterization and how she changed from being really snarky and kind of really mercilessly ripping into people (that long, long, long rant of everything Satoshi did wrong in the Sanyou/Striaton gym… ^^;;;) and being very secretive, but also having no ability to connect with others after the ostracization she suffered in the Souryuu/Opelucid Academy, but with time, she learned to understand Doryuuzu’s feelings and apologize instead of blaming others, her criticizing settled down into friendly teasing, , and learned to open up to and trust her friends and others, after previously being secretive about her goal, her past, everything. And through this, also develops her innate power to understand the hearts of Dragons! 

All the people I ship romantically with this character: Dent/Cilan!

My non-romantic OTP for this character: she and Satoshi/Ash are similar enough to butt heads a bit, she brings out the more childish and impatient side of him with her own, though, so it still comes off very differently from his bond with Hikari/Dawn.

My unpopular opinion about this character: 

One thing I wish would happen / had happened with this character in canon: that she got to appear in XY/XYZ, so I can see how she’d look with XY’s beautiful animation and more detailed art style. :| Oh, well, Sun & Moon might not be my cup of tea aesthetically speaking, but the animation is thousands of times smoother and more bouncy and lively, full of character– it’d suit a character from a saga as expressive as BW!

Now I’m curious about Ash’s mini-adventure to get a hold of that gift. Sounds like fun.

(Also, Ash’s entire train of thought, and Misty’s familiarity with Pikachu, and Ash noticing all the small little things that Misty does, and Pikachu being so involved, and the whole feeling of nervousness was really brilliant here.)

((Haha, well, these are ficlets so I’m not going to do all of them (if they were headcanons, that would be a different story!), but I will do one. Specifically, 91 in this case.))

Ash wasn’t sure whether he felt relief or panic when he saw that Mistywas waiting for him on Hano Beach as she had agreed to, but he knew that somecombination of both was making his stomach flop around and his palms sweataround the black velvet box he held in his hands.

Although Hano Beach Resort was bursting with activity during the day,in the evening, it was a lot quieter. It had something to do with it beingaround dinnertime, Ash thought; there were plenty of outdoor tables on thehotel patio, but even though people sat out there to eat, drink, and relax, fewwandered down to the beach as the sun set. That was why he had asked Misty tomeet him there; he knew that it would give them a little bit of privacy, andthough he didn’t know why he wantedprivacy (it wasn’t like they were doing anything bad, or—or weird, it was nobig deal!), he knew that he did, anyway. He didn’t want Brock watching overthem, or his classmates crowding around, or Professor Kukui making commentary,or Roto snapping pictures. It was—he wanted it to be just him, and Misty, andPikachu. That was what he wanted, so when everything was ready, he asked Mistyto meet him down on the beach so they could talk.

And that was exactly what she did. He could see her down there now,standing at the shoreline, the water lapping at her feet. The sun had justabout set entirely, and it made her hair look like it was fire. It was weird,Ash thought, how her hair could look like that. She was a water-typespecialist, so wouldn’t it have made more sense for her hair to be blue, likeLana’s? Not that she could control what color hair she was born with, heguessed, though she could’ve always dyed it, like her sisters Violet and Daisydid. Then she couldn’t be so contradictory, so complicated—though he guessedhe always liked that about her, how she was the tomboyish mermaid one second, yet then was gushing over somecutesy, romance-whatever in the next—

“Pikapi,” Pikachu hissed fromhis place on Ash’s shoulder. He tapped Ash’s cheek with his paw.

It was enough to make Ash blink, pulling him out of his thoughts about Misty to realize that hewas still watching her from afar instead.His cheeks were hot, and his heart felt like—how would Professor Kukuidescribe it? Oh, like Belly Drum. His heart felt like it was performing BellyDrum, which was weird since it wasn’t even inhis belly, but—

“Pikapi!”

“Okay, okay!” Ash said, and he huffed a sigh. “I’m going, jeez. No needto be so pushy.”

“Piika,” Pikachu said, and Ash didn’t even need to look askance to knowthat Pikachu was rolling his eyes. He puffed his cheeks in irritation, but didn’tbother to retort, because as much as he didn’t want to admit it, Pikachu wasright and they both knew it.

Ash hadn’t been standing very far away from Misty, even as he hadwatched her, but the walk across the beach still felt like it both tookforever, and yet no time at all. The closer he got, the easier it was to makeout little details, like the rainbow sparkle of her Key Stone as it dangledfrom her scrunchie, or how she was smiling at the ocean as if just looking atit made her happy. That was probably true, Ash thought, but there was somethingabout the way she smiled at it that .. . well, it made him think that maybe Misty understood something about the oceanthat he didn’t. And that was probablytrue, too, but he wished that she’d share some of that understanding with him.He didn’t—it never really made him happy to think that Misty could be placeswhere he couldn’t stand, too.

He opened his mouth to call out to her, but she turned around before hecould. His voice caught in his throat, anyway, as she turned that smile on him,but even as his voice got stuck, everything else inside of him felt bubbly. Shesmiled at him, and it was really no different than how she had smiled at theocean. Maybe—Maybe they weren’t in such different places after all.

“Hey,” she said, “what took you so long?”

Gotta love the subtle character dynamic throwbacks right here, probably one of my favorite scenes in this whole #LIT episode. Satoshi gets stuck in a pinch because of Gyarados’s Hurricane trapping Pikachu. It’s an ace technique that apparently has never been beaten that Kasumi came up with. We have Satoshi and Pikachu who are just not even unnerved because the battle is about having a good time and fun, the whole joy from an intense battle is breaking through different styles and techniques. Satoshi found a way around it by using Quick Attack, an offensive move as  a way to escape that cyclone. Takeshi is not even shocked at all! 

You have the classmates and Kasumi wondering what the hell is up but Takeshi chills there with that sly expression on his face. He’s traveled with Satoshi for three regions and he without a doubt is the is the cast member whom of which has seen his battling skill evolve the most. Short, sweet and subtle way of paying homage to their history and friendship contrasted to everyone else in the episode. Takeshi mentioned earlier even that you can train a Pokemon to use offensive moves in a manner of defending or evading damage, one of Satoshi’s battle catchphrases has always been “The best defense is a strong offense.”

Then there’s Kukui who actually just cracks up at it all, like the revelation is just so out-of-the-blue and completely ridiculous. Using electricity as footing to run on to escape a Hurricane attack. What an absolute madman! Satoshi has been living with Kukui for nearly fifty episodes so far, he is without a doubt the closest thing resembling a father I feel that Sato has had in his life. Satoshi pulling crazy bullshit like that makes him chuckle hardily and it almost gives off the impression that Kukui sees him as his son. Like he’s proud of him and he believes in him and his abilities, he’s the one who more or less gave him Rockruff, he supports his Island Challenge, his school endeavors, he even let Satoshi stay with a grieving Litten after Stoutland’s death because he understands. In the games Kukui traveled through Kanto himself and earned the badges just like Satoshi did. I do feel like there is a bit of “Satoshi” in him so to speak. These interactions in this episode were so honest and organic, it really helps sell you on the relationships he’s forged with these characters no matter how long he’s known them.
