Goblet of Fire, Chapter 23: The Yule Ball

They are fourteen years old.

^ Ron is indeed being an immature, jealous prat here. He is feeling insecure but it’s still not an excuse for his behaviour. 

^ The chapter ends here and they go to sleep because this happened in the Gryffindor common room and not in the Great hall where there would be a huge dramatic scene.

^ Ron acted like a jerk at the Yule Ball. Everyone knows that, but the movie added in those extra lines that made Ron look even more cruel. Plus Hermione basically called him a coward. 

Deathly Hallows, Chapter 8: The Wedding

It is two and half years later and they are seventeen now.

^ He has definitely noticed she is a girl now.

^ I love Rupert’s acting in this scene. He did a great job in Deathly Hallows.

^ Yes he is jealous but he’ll make up for it in a sec. Harry’s being his wingman and making sure Ron keeps his cool.

^ There it is. He makes up for not asking her to the Yule Ball properly. He learned from his mistake.

Now, to be fair, Hermione dancing with Krum is a deleted scene (thank goodness for that) but, it’s still the fact that they didn’t even film a deleted scene of Ron and Hermione dancing together. That was such a sweet moment between them in the books and I hate that they cut it.

And you see here how much he matured and learned from his mistakes. At seventeen he makes up for a mistake he made at fourteen. I personally think that Goblet of Fire was when Ron first started realizing that he liked Hermione as more than a friend.

hermione has always been my comfort character. but over the years, i’ve had jumbled feelings about the series that used to mean so much to me. reading the books again after so long during a stressful point in my life has been quite healing, though.
