My name is Görkem Keser who was born in 1986 in Istanbul. Working as a freelance photographer. Graduated in Media and Communication Systems at the İstanbul Bilgi University in 2010. My photographs have been shown in various exhibitions all around the world as well as the newspaper and magazine.

 I wanted to question both the connection between me and the idea of death. My work tries to question how people can face death, and whether birth is a punishment. These issues have always been my focus since I was young. My father's suicide when I was 12 definitely affected my artistic expression. Facing death, and existential pain are the subjects that I am particularly interested in and working on.  I use all these people, animals and nature metaphorically to describe the terrible loneliness and helplessness of being thrown into this world. Actually, photography is a tool for me to escape from reality and perhaps mask my suicidal thoughts. As Camus famously said, should I kill myself or have a cup of coffee. I substituted photography for coffee.

In Datça’s local market, time seems to unravel slowly like a delicate weave. Each item displayed on the stalls reflects the tiny details of life; the deep green of olives glistening in the sun, the fresh scent of mint bundles, the traces of years on an old farmer’s hands... These details intertwine with the tranquility of a coastal town, whispering of a timeless serenity, a memory untouched by the rush of daily life. In every corner, these small moments of stillness reveal the elegance found in simplicity.

These branches mingling with the night are like reflections of thoughts buried deep within the human soul. Each one tells a story, chaotic in structure yet filled with the grace of nature. In these photographs, I aimed to reveal the dark and mysterious side of nature; intertwined like the thoughts in our subconscious, yet each one a whole in itself.

Every morning, I notice the light within me fading. Joy and hope give way to a dark void, turning my days to gray. Shadows cover my mood and emotions, and with each step, I feel myself being pulled deeper. In these shadowed days, I find myself lost within my own inner world.
