I saw this gentleman a while back; he was a make up artist at the MAC Counter at the New Delhi Indira Gandhi International Airport. I was so enamored by his sophisticated boldness and his blasé (yet respectful) attitude toward the Punjabi gender norms. I loved how he seamlessly melded the Sikh culture with his unconventional interests. I told him he reminded me of Waris Ahluwalia - the acclaimed Gap Model and the man on countless best-dressed lists - and he smiled and gave me another pose. you may like this singhstreetstyle

Tatiana Maslany: I think Cosima and Delphine have that amazing complexity to their relationship, which is total love for each other. Yet they’re also on opposite ends of the equation and sort of like Romeo and Juliet, from totally different worlds. The trust issues remain issues, and there remains tension between them, but ultimately they love each other.
Laverne Cox: I haven’t met Ellen Page, yet, in person. I’m so honored that she said “yes” to introducing me, and I was deeply honored when she mentioned me in her coming out speech. I’ve been a huge fan of Ellen Page for a long time, so this whole night is kind of unbelievable for me. I feel very special, and I believe that if all trans women of color got this kind of love, we could change the world.
Caitlin Stasey: Playing a gay character really isn’t anything to me. I have a fluid sexuality and feel like everyone’s on a scale... I don’t really discern a difference between attraction for men or women.

Chelsea Manning’s statement on judge approving her name change:
April 23 - Today is an exciting day. A judge in the state of Kansas has officially ordered my name to be changed from “Bradley Edward Manning” to “Chelsea Elizabeth Manning.” I’ve been working for months for this change, and waiting for years.
It’s worth noting that in both mail and in-person, I’ve often been asked, “Why are you changing your name?” The answer couldn’t be simpler: because it’s a far better, richer, and more honest reflection of who I am and always have been –a woman named Chelsea.
But there is another question I’ve been asked nearly as much, “why are you making this request of the Leavenworth district court?” This is a more complicated question, but the short answer is simple: because I have to.
Unfortunately, the trans* community faces three major obstacles to living a normal life in America: identity documentation, gender segregated institutions, and access to healthcare. And I’ve only just jumped through the first one of these hurdles.
It’s the most banal things –such as showing an ID card, going to the bathroom, and receiving trans-related healthcare –that in our current society keep us from having the means to live better, more productive, and safer lives. Unfortunately, there are many laws and procedures that often don’t consider trans* people, or even outright prevent them from doing the sort of simple day-to-day things that others take for granted.
Now, I am waiting on the military to assist me in accessing healthcare. In August, I requested that the military provide me with a treatment plan consistent with the recognized professional standards of care for trans health. They quickly evaluated me and informed me that they came up with a proposed treatment plan. However, I have not seen yet seen their treatment plan, and in over eight months, I have not received any response as to whether the plan will be approved or disapproved, or whether it follows the guidelines of qualified health professionals.
I’m optimistic that things can –and certainly will –change for the better.  There are so many people in America today that are willing and open to discuss trans-related issues. Hopefully today’s name change, while so meaningful to me personally, can also raise awareness of the fact that we trans* people exist everywhere in America today, and that we have must jump through hurdles every day just for being who we are. If I’m successful in obtaining access to trans healthcare, it will not only be something I have wanted for a long time myself, but it will also open the door for many people, both inside and outside the military, to request the right to live more open, fulfilled lives.
Thank you,
Chelsea Manning

The Discrimination of Trans Individuals.
Transgender is an all inclusive term for all non cis individuals. This includes genderqueer, genderfluid, agender, trans males, trans females, androgynous individuals, and all other non-cis identities.
Trans* individuals are often unacknowledged or treated as disgusting and are often the victims of hate crimes. The average lifespan of a trans individual is between 23-32 years old (studies vary in their numbers). Trans* individuals experience discrimination in Education, Healthcare, Housing, Employment, Police Brutality, and even within the LGBTQ community, which is sometimes criticized as being more L and G than anything else.
Dan Savage the creator of the It Gets Better Project often  comes under criticism for his cissexist, racist, biphobia, transphobia, and asexual erasure.
Cece McDonald was imprisoned for the stabbing and death of a man who attacked her and her friends.
In the media, trans* individuals are often played by cis actors, like Jared Leto as Rayon in Dallas Buyers Club for which he received an academy award. Very few trans* characters are played by trans* actors, the only characters that come to mind that are actually played by trans* people are Sophia Burset (Laverne Cox) on Orange is the New Black and Miss Hudson (Candis Cayne) on Elementary.

The Massachusetts women's university will establish a committee on transgender students...
Over 4,000 signatures from a Change.org petition were recently delivered to Smith officials, blasting the school for refusing to consider Calliope Wong, a young trans woman, for admission. After the signatures were delivered, Smith's dean of admissions, Debra Shaver, announced a committee would form to address the needs of prospective trans students at Smith. The committee will begin meeting in September, and in the interim, Smith will stop denying admissions to trans girls and women listed as male on their Free Application for Federal Student Aid forms, which is what happened to Wong.

The reason “It Gets Better” caught on with politicians and celebrities is because it’s great PR and it requires absolutely NOTHING from them in the way of real action.
someone on datalounge who I cannot quite disagree with (via aliapenny)
I just need that entire comment on my blog:
“It’s just a bullshit PR campaign, nothing more. Telling kids to put up with bullying until they leave school is not constructive advice. It’s cruel. School boards, school administrators, teachers, etc., need to have zero tolerance policy for bullying. It’s not uncommon for teachers to bully unpopular kids themselves. That’s where the changes need to be made. But that requires action, and it requires standing up to conservatives who fight anti-bullying campaigns tooth and nail (often claiming that bullying gay people is a christian right). The reason “It Gets Better” caught on with politicians and celebrities is because it’s great PR and it requires absolutely NOTHING from them in the way of real action.
It’s cruelty to tell a kid to tolerate bullying. And to whom is this campaign even directed? The fat gay kids that Savage makes fun of himself? It’s a campaign aimed at good looking white boys with great bodies and upper middle class families. Yes, THEY will do better once they start hitting the gay bars. But for most average looking kids from working class families, they will find a gay community that’s often very much like High School, with cliques and teasing and rejection. Gay kids need to get support from society, and the kids that need that most are the kids that Savage himself would mock and demonize; kids of color, working class and poor kids, fat kids, kids with acne, and kids who are otherwise marginalized in society AND in our community.
Even when you look at the videos on YouTube, you see politicians who’ve come out against marriage equality, sports teams that would never accept a gay person in their ranks, and celebrities who just want some good press. The gay kids who participate are often great looking white boys, who you know will be accepted in the gay community, and are already leading charmed lives. It’s a campaign for the people Savage likes…sexy white male teenagers with athletic bodies who will be greeted with open arms.
I’ll take the campaign seriously when Savage speaks out on behalf of marginalized gay kids, and criticizes the gay community for its racism and other prejudices. But he’s the biggest bigot and bully of the bunch, and that’s been proven from his many years as a “columnist.” I often couldn’t believe how conservative, prejudiced, and intolerant he was in those columns.”

Also trans people.
Dan Savage doesn’t care about the T, and he’s been actively, grossly cissexist on many distinct occasions.
(via misterstibbons)
Not to mention asexuals, women, lower-class people, etc. Let’s face it kids, Dan Savage is the most hypocritical douchebag in the queer rights movement.
But yes I agree with everything that has been posted above.
(via daelhorhota)
don’t forget that he thinks bisexuals in general need to “make up their mind” and that male bisexuals are essentially unicorns
(via freakingdork)
I once had an extended argument over when he was glitter-bombed because he’s a huge hypocritical transphobe. You can’t claim to be a trans* ally and then hurl transphobic slurs at your enemies. There’s no complicit-by-ignorance-and-stupidity argument to be made there - that’s just straight up transphobia. He is not an ‘activist. He is making a great living by essentially capitalizing on the intersection of his hegemonic identities and a burgeoning pinkwashed economy.
(via trungles)
liking all the commentary here, and yeah that’s always bugged me about the “it gets better” campaign; it should be made better for kids NOW, not just waiting for them to get older and for their life to stop sucking
(via pentapod-monster)
savage doesnt give a shit about #rape victims either oohh tss….
(via peppersongg)
I think we all agree that dan savage is a stinky, puckered asshole.
(via ecseas13)
Agree with everything mentioned, and adding more links
General list
Fucknodansavage
Transmisogyny and whorephobia
This old but still equally disgusting bit of transmisogyny and repeated misgendering of a trans woman
YFIP page w/ a fuckload of links
Another page o his general shittiness
A really racist comment
(I’ve probably doubled up on some links but w/e)
And this is just from like, the first page of google. I also wanna mention that he has a penchant to call other gay/lesbian people f*gs and d*kes which is never ok, unless the person has explicitly said that’s an ok term to use cor them.

Well it’s funny to think about, you’ve got the gays marching for the right to be cocksucking homosexuals, and then you have the asexuals marching for the right to not do anything. Which is hilarious. Like, you didn’t need to march for that right. You just need to stay home, not do anything.

Trans* as an Inclusive Term
While many people think of transgender as adherent to the gender binary, the term Trans* includes all non binary genders as well. Genderqueer, Genderfluid, Assigned Female at Birth, Assigned Male at Birth, Trans Men, and Trans Women, use the term as a community to share experiences.

In the Face of Discrimination
Harassment and police abuse of genderqueers is a serious issue that has not been fully looked into yet
violence against genderqueers must be looked into with more depth
approximately 40% have attempted suicide [compared to 1.6% of the general U.S. population]
more likely to avoid or refuse medical care in fear of discrimination
fear of "coming out" at work
afraid of harassment, getting fired, denial of promotion
However, a study by the Williams Institute shows that gender nonconforming people (could be genderqueer) suffer from less discrimination and abuse than transgender
raises the question of whether not identifying gender is more beneficial than identifying as transgender, etc.

"my personal viewpoint of being gender queer is honoring my body, honoring my spiritual self - my pagan self that honors my highly feminine self and incorporating that and figuring out what that means . . .personally I’m not trying to be a woman. I’m not trying to be a man trying to be a woman. I’m expressing myself sexually as sometimes ambiguous . . . gearing it towards more I guess earth-based spirituality and combining the two of my sexual orientation with my spiritual practices which is why I identify as faerie."
