Why I don’t ship DreamHunter

I haven’t really seen anyone else talk about NOT liking DreamHunter and so I imagine this could very well go over badly. But I just can’t bring myself to like it as a ship, because to me it never was meant to be a ship. As a 16 year old that absolutely loved and idolized Claire’s character, I saw the potential in Kaia immediately. The way Jack perfectly parallels Cas only solidified that mental need to see them meet.

But I think the beauty of their brief interaction is that it didn’t need to be a love story. It could be interpreted as one, and I have no qualms if that’s how you read it. But it can be just as emotional and meaningful as if you were reading it platonically. Because Claire and Kaia are finding something in each other they’ve needed. Understanding.

Kaia, who has never really known a home or family and is left alone with what she deems a curse. With the exceptions of other walkers or someone who would be aware of their existence, Kaia is fighting a battle no one else could understand. When she’s talking about “The Bad Place”, the people around her see it as a metaphorical place rather than a living nightmare. She’s doing what she can to survive, even if it’s not the best interest for her.

Claire, who only once knew a family, before watching it get ripped apart twice in a year. She too had been left alone, burdened with the mental curse of what she knows. Much like Kaia, there’s no one around Claire that could understand her. Characters like Sandra could never understand the things Claire’s dealt with. They will only see a black and white scenario, where this girl is dealing with the abandonment of her father. They will never know the things she’s had to see and experience. But even characters like Castiel or Jody don’t understand her either, they may understand the situations or the turmoil it’s caused in her. But Claire’s drive to hunt is beyond their understanding, no one in the world chooses to be a hunter and yet here Claire is doing just that.

That’s why I love the idea of them platonically because the meaning is just as memorable. They are the story of two teens who have seen and dealt with too much, surrounded by the ones that can never understand.

brb just thinking about claire and jack going on a hunt together and they're interviewing a witness and claire introduces herself as claire novak, and then jack says hi i'm jack :) and the witness looks at him expectantly, waiting for a surname, and claire quickly goes "novak. he's my brother". and jack turns to her like 🥹🥰
