“Ah, but it’s fine, really! I’ll eat two instead of one, that’s fine!” He reassured, smiling at Luna’s embarassment.
“It was a success!” he affirmed enthusiastically, lightly nodding his head.
“Isn’t it dangerous, though? You’re really cute Miss Luna, so what if someone falls in love with you?” he naïvely asked. There were no ulterior motives: he was really worried about her.
Luna blinked once, twice.
“O-oh, no, I-I don’t...!” She shook her head sharply. “I-I don’t think that would ever happen! R-really...”
The thought was... Kind of nice, on some level, that someone might fall in love wih her. But... That would just be too complicated. Better to keep things like that to storybooks and Disney movies.
“S-so I guess, I haven’t thought about it...”

63. Our muses being the sole survivors of a shootout
((holy cow that’s intense lmao))
“Th-they... They’re dead,” Luna said distantly, unable to conjure more than a simple statement of obvious fact. “They’re all... Dead...”
Where had the weapons even come from? Her mind was spinning through every timeline, every eventuality, but not one had concluded like this. Explosions, yes. Knives -- no, a scalpel. But guns? Had there even been any in the Rhizome? Of course the whys and hows were little more than a meaningless distraction from the truth. The truth that seven bodies lay motionless on the floor of Warehouse A, soaked in red-black blood.
Luna glanced up at the blond standing beside her -- her enemy, although she doubted he knew that. And did it even matter anymore, with everyone else gone? Her hands trembled and she clutched them close to her chest.
“What... W-what do we do now, Dio...?”

Luna pressed her hands to her cheeks to cover the white blush of ABT fluid rushing to her face. It wasn’t as though kindness was rare in her life, but... The fact that Left had taken things so well even despite her lie filled Luna with a pleasant mix of happiness, relief, and embarrassment at her previous panic.
“O-oh, well... I’m glad,” she concluded with a nod. “A-although I’m sorry I didn’t tell you before you’d already spent your money...”
She shrugged sheepishly. But Left seemed cheerful enough, anyway. And that was... Good. It was really nice. It made his next observations easy to respond to, even if the subject had always been a bit uncomfortable.
“Well, there was a lot of effort spent on making me look as human as possible, s-so... I guess... It was a success...?”

schrodingerskanny:
A brief moment of hesitation ensued before Akane processed Luna’s question to a degree that allowed her to give a qualified answer. Admitteldy, it wasn’t an easy concept to grasp. If they could bring Luna to this universe, then why would it be far-fetched to assume they couldn’t gather everyone else? What would make the former a plausible option, and the latter close to an impossibility?

“Honestly, I don’t really know.” What an odd statement, coming from no other than Akane Kurashiki, the self-proclaimed queen of random knowledge. “I wouldn’t exclude the possibility, but there’s a lot of things we need to consider. Where are they, and how are their lives? Well, that we know. Would we want to be there? Could we go there? Could they even be h e r e, with other versions of themselves running about? Would it be ethical to allow those to go to the darker reality for our friends’s sake? Aren’t those our friends as well? And lastly– how would an exchange like this one even take place without having an uploaded version of their mind in a quantum computer? We Espers might influence our own SHIFTing, but how would we guide theirs without power over their consciousnesses?”
Okay, rant over.
“You see, Luna, there’s no easy answer.”
Luna processed the leaps and bounds of Ms. Kurashiki’s argument quickly, but was still left feeling somewhat dizzied by the whole thing.
“I... I hadn’t thought of it like that,” she admitted softly.
So, it was unlikely she would ever again meet those specific consciousnesses who had taken part in the AB Game with her. It made perfect sense, of course. But, although they had different experiences... Weren’t the people of the timeline she was in still the same people she had met? They would have no previous memory of her -- or if they did, it would perhaps be a different version of her, too. Nonetheless... Well... If Ms. Kurashiki was Ms. Kurashiki, then surely Clover would be Clover and Phi would be Phi and so on...?
“But... Um.” Luna hesitated over the conclusion she’d come to for a moment. “Then... Will we still meet versions of them? The ones native to this history? Or is... Is it better if we don’t, now that this timeline has been established...?”

25. Your muse finds out mine was lying to them.
“I, I didn’t mean to–” Luna bit her lip and looked away, unable to meet Left’s eyes. “No, I suppose that’s wrong…”
What use was piling one lie on top of another? It was just a crumbling tower that would fall at the slightest breeze, wasn’t it? She shook her head.
“I… I am sorry. But there is… A reason I had to lie. I promise, I didn’t do it to hurt you.”
There was no guarantee he’d believe that, of course, not after she’d already misled him. And perhaps she didn’t even deserve to be believed. But… All Luna could do was tell the truth and hope that maybe things would work out.
#((ahhh this is... so vague... but i wasn't sure what she'd be lying about lol))#((her identity maybe?? idk but thank you for sending this in!))#to-your-left

“but what is that going to leave you with? you can’t stay here alone… even if you are a robot you have emotions && needs, && i’m not letting you sacrifice yourself for me.”
really, clover wanted to see her brother again. she wanted to feel the outside air - to not be trapped in this place. but she wasn’t going to drag luna down in order to do it. not today, not this time. she had bigger problems to worry about, bigger issues that needed healing. and she wasn’t going to allow this sacrifice.
she would be safe, sure. but it would weigh on her the rest of her life, && that was an issue.
“really, i’m okay. i don’t want to leave you alone.”
sure, eventually she would die. the place would end up being abandoned && luna would end up alone && immortal, but she’s not going to let that happen, not for as long as she could. she was still young.
thoughts shifted at luna’s last statement && she was forced back into this scary reality.
“outside the doors? why? it’s only been forty five years, how bad can it be…?”
that was rhetorical, as curious as she was- she didn’t know if she wanted to find out.
Luna’s whole world paused for just a second, hearing Clover’s words. It wasn’t that she’d thought her selfish, far from it, but… Well… No one had ever really spoken that way to Luna before. Everyone in Rhizome 9 had been bound by their purpose, none had the sort of opportunity or motive to leave that Clover did. But what was really moving was the directness of it, the way Clover spoke so surely.
“I,” Luna stammered for a moment, unsure how to express the way she had been affected. “I… Thank you, Clover. That… That makes me really happy.”
And it did. There was a lightness in her chest. And even as the conversation turned to the world outside of Rhizome 9, that feeling remained.
“I-it’s not,” Luna began, and faltered. “It’s not so bad on Earth, not as bad as it was a few decades ago. But, well… I, I don’t know what all you’ve heard, Clover, but we’re… Not really on Earth right now.”

“R-right,” Luna agreed with a nod. “I’m glad.”
There was still a lot she didn’t know about the timeline she had been pulled to. Or perhaps that was more of a symptom of not knowing much about the people who had been their enemies for so long. How things had been resolved in this history, what the true goals and motivations of Free the Soul were... But. Those weren’t really things Luna wanted to think about, at least not yet. She had only just been brought to a hopeful future, she didn’t want to ruin it by worrying. Ms. Kurashiki had assured her that everything was fine, and Luna could trust that.
But there was still one thing on Luna’s mind, one thing that she couldn’t seem to shake. After all, she had met very few people in her life, had never left Rhizome-9 before. And so... Even though she had only known most of them for a short while...
“Um. Ms. Kurashiki... About... The others from the AB Game... Do you think we’ll ever see them again?”

“Don’t say such things,” Akane responded, a hint of amusement contained within her words. It was very typical of Luna to apologize even without a rational reason to do so. “We’ve all played our parts; you’re just as much a piece of the bigger picture as I.”
It was an undeniable fact that some individuals, especially Doctor Klim or Akane herself, had quantitavely invested more time into creating this new universe than others, but she fervently believed the amount itself wasn’t of great importance. They all suffered, and they all contributed. With just one little thing missing they wouldn’t have reached the point they are at now.
“There’s still work for us to finish, but yes— for now, everyone’s okay. There’s no immediate threat.”

“No, I... I guess there isn’t but...”
Standing suddenly, Luna turned fully to face Clover.
“M-maybe, maybe there’s something I can do.”
The number nine door would never open again. Supposedly. But why shouldn’t it? There was no purpose to keeping people trapped after the game, in any timeline. And even if there were...
“I’m a part of this place. The whole building. I, I don’t know if I can, but... If I tried, I might be able to override the protocols, to get the number nine door open again. It’s just... Clover... I mean...”
Luna’s fervor began to fade. Would the world, or rather, the moon, outside the rhizome really be a thing that would inspire hope in anyone? A history forty-five years too far forward, in some cases. And if they all left, then Luna would be...
No, not alone. She would still have... G-OLM. And Lagomorph, unless the cessation of the Nonary Game deacivated him.
“What’s outside those doors,” she concluded softly, “might be a bit of a shock.”
this was how it ended, wasn’t it?
trapped inside of this place. alice was dead, light was nowhere to be found. really, it seemed like the worst way to go. what happened when they ran out of food? what happened when they got bored? why was she chosen for this again? she was the only one.
the only one who had to get sucked back into a third nonary game, not even the girl who once died was back. it was just her. she wondered what karma she’d deserved for this to happen, over && over again.
“i guess so! but it’s still so… unexpected!”
luna, a robot. that meant she was going to survive beyond the rest of the group. luna was probably going to end up alone once everyone died. clover couldn’t even imagine…
she tried to pick herself up, things weren’t as bad as they seemed. unfair? sure. but it wasn’t the end of the world. she was going to make it out of this alive.
“not much i can do about it i guess.”
a small shrug, pink heel kicking the floor beneath her. she wasn’t making eye contact with luna, she was too exhausted for that.

“I think... that was probably the point.”
Luna wouldn’t have been very effective in her role if everyone could tell she wasn’t human, after all. Not that it seemed to have helped much. No, that wasn’t necessarily true, not the way the AB Project was meant to work -- merely that she herself was stuck in a history that did not have the optimal ending. And such histories had to exist to allow Phi and Sigma to manifest their abilities. Still...
Luna looked down at her hands, brushing the fingers of one over the palm of the other.
“Clover, I... I really am... sorry. That it all turned out this way.”
clover just shrugged, swinging her legs back && forth as luna talked.
“well, believe me, you’re easily the nicest person i know. && i have light as a brother.” a small chuckle turning into a sigh as she thought about her brother she was never going to see again.
she tried not to focus on that too much, after all, she had all the time in the world to spend thinking about him. might as well start on a positive note, even if she was on her own. alice was dead, light was nowhere to be found. thankfully someone was here. she was thankful luna was with her.
“i wouldn’t have guessed, even if it was the last thing i ever did.”

“I... I suppose...?”
Luna shrugged helplessly.
“I can’t say much about, um, my temperament. I r-really wouldn’t know,” she admitted. “B-because, well, the truth is, I’ve spent my whole life here. J-just Zero Sr., and the old woman, and...”
Luna couldn’t make herself say ‘Kyle’, so she trailed off instead, wringing her hands.
“So... I’ve never met anyone who didn’t already know I was a GAULEM. U-until now, anyway...”

“so you’re a robot, huh? that must be so hard to explain to people. i wouldn’t have ever guessed, you’re so lifelike.”
“no wonder you’re so innocently sweet.”
she figured no one who was real was that nice.
