hi I’m a baby philosophy enthusiast who’s also interested in psychology, I wanted to know your thoughts about Freud as a philosopher

hmm… I haven’t read a lot of Freud’s original works sadly. but whatever little I have I can say for sure that he is heavily misinterpreted and misrepresented. a lot of people are quick to criticise him but very few acknowledge the fact that he has shaped modern psychology greatly, especially the psychotherapeutic aspect, in my understanding. and even in refuting his ideas, theories such as, Erik Erikson’s psychosocial development theory and defence mechanisms by his own daughter, Anna Freud (who should be a little more recognised) came up. he is very problematic, no doubt in that, but he also deserves the recognition or “hype” he gets.

btw spoiler alert: his interpretation of the Oedipus and electra complex is not what you are made to believe it is

my partner is doing very good! just a little overwhelmed with applications these days so we are unable to hang out often heh. one update I can give you iisss that we are about to celebrate our one year anniversary as a couple soon and we are both very excited 😭 we do not have anything planned yet because our schedules are so packed but would love it if anyone could suggest anything fun and cost effective considering we’re students.

about Foucault and Chomsky… I don’t think I have read their original discussions yet, and so cannot comment on it. I would love to first read it (possibly find some source to actually hear or watch it?) and then get back to you. however, I have indulged in their individual works. I had a whole phase where I was so obsessed with Chomsky and his ideas on nativism and LAD I would rant about it to everyone (I am very much inclined towards linguistics and behaviour) Foucault is revolutionary, and I have had my own phase with him, as well. I think I am still going through it a little bit.

but if there is one philosopher that I particularly enjoy refuting and disagreeing with its Descartes. and also Peter Singer takings on animal rights also rubs me a little wrong so let me know if you’d like to talk about that

I was meant to swim in the sea alongside the coast my mother grow up at… my summers were supposed to be spent sun bathing with my very attractive boyf, possibly making out behind a tree and reading so much literature, philosophical, fictional, non-fictional. just read to fill the void within me…

now im spending my summers in a horrid city of a concrete jungle that i hate, faraway from my boyf because he chose to be a stem major.
