Cotton Daddy 😭🤌🏻
Every couple of weeks a post goes around arguing that "leather is good actually, and critics of leather are actually so much crueler to animals because microplastics (and also plant based fake leather sucks btw)."
Listen folks, you're spreading propoganda for one of the most polluting, cruelest (for the animals and the workers) industries out there, all for free!
Yeah plastic clothing is shitty and fake leather mostly sucks, but so does real leather. The secret third option here is to not buy any leather products at all. Real or fake.
Look for durable canvas boots instead of ones made of skin. Try tying yourself up in a rope harness rather than a leather one. Go for the cloth interior when you get that new car. And if you just have to have leather for whatever strange reasons you have, for the love of all animal life, please thrift it.
Just because something is a byproduct of another horrible industry doesn't lessen the impact its manufacture has on animals, workers, and the environment. The less animal products we buy, the harder it is for animal agriculture to be profitable, and that's the first step towards the abolition of specisism and animal exploitation entirely.

Baby bird season is incoming and I’d like to remind everyone that birds do not have a significant sense of smell. Bird parents will not reject birdlets because you have handled them.
If you see smol birbs with few or no feathers on the ground, you can safely put them back into their nest, bird parents will still care for them.
If you see smol birbs with some or most feathers on the ground, please leave them there, as bird parents are probably nearby watching and feeding.

"Western countries to cut down on their meat consumption for the benefit of the environment. Animal agriculture is a leading contributor to a number of major environmental issues, including deforestation and rising greenhouse gas emissions.
In April 2022, one study from the University of Bonn in Germany suggested that meat consumption must drop by at least 75 percent in rich countries, which are putting an unnecessary strain on the planet through a high demand for animal products. "
'If all humans consumed as much meat as Europeans or North Americans, we would certainly miss the international climate targets and many ecosystems would collapse,'"

girl thank you for taking one for the team and writing this out. yes.
A frustrating part of the mainstream vegan “love all animals and protect the environment” mindset is the fact that things need to die in real-life ecology all the time but deer hunting season makes icky feelings and carp culls aren’t cottagecore

I'm watching a teeny baby ant walk around my table. I put my finger in front of her a couple of times to transport her elsewhere, and each time she approached it, she said "Nope" and walked in a different direction, unhurriedly checking things out.
It's just so fascinating to consider that this is a little sentient being, a consciousness, walking around in a very big world by herself figuring things out and making decisions, and she's no bigger than a mustard seed - yet she's no less an expression of God than I am, and no less important.

If you actually want to talk about the animal that's caused the most deaths in Australia (other than white ppl) I'd argue it was the introduction of sheep and cows (both through violence by settlers and the environmental and ecological impact ). but of course that doesn't count because it's a consequence of colonialism and not an animal acting out of the unique evil malice in its heart that all things native to Australia possess (don't interrogate that idea too much)

Now get out there and be a wonderful beast. Or stay right there and be a wonderful beast, whatever you need (:
You're just a mammal. Let yourself act like it. Your brain needs enrichment. Your body needs rest. You feel hunger and grow hair. You need to pack bond with other sentient things so you don't become unsocialized and neurotic. You are biologically inclined to seek dopamine and become sick when chronically stressed. "Hedonism" is made up to place moral value on taking pleasure in sensory experiences. I am telling you that if you don't let yourself be a fucking mammal, as you were made, you will suffer and go insane. No grindset no diets no trying to be above your drive for connection. Pursue what makes you feel good and practice radial rejection of the constructs meant to turn you into a machine. You're a mammal.

Is it right to kill animals for food? And if it’s wrong, how wrong is it? Could and should Western society ever change its views?

“When I turned vegan, I didn’t feel that way about every animal around. I’ve noticed it’s something that changes naturally. Nowadays I vacuum around a spider, catch flies to release them outside and let silverfish go about their business; a whole new world, a whole new-found mental peace. I love being vegan, it’s the best thing that ever happened to me. I finally understand, we all have but one life, human, cow, ant, everyone, it is not our right to take it away in a whim, simply because we can, it’s their right to live their lives, just like us, just like me.”
Jaco van Drongelen (Nov 29, 2013)
