He's obsessed with "recompleting" with one of the main protagonists and violentally merging their souls together in a destructive amalgemation and bringing about the end of the world.

Based on that list of character traits, you'd assume he'd be some kind of narratively loadbearing antagonist. Instead, he's a whiny backflip obsessed teenager who is always instead just a hired goon for the Real Big Bad: An Old Man Going Through A Divorce.

honestly IM1 pepper/tony is still the Superior and Definite portrayal of that dynamic imo because it’s the one movie that actually gave tony’s perspective some standing when they were in conflict with each other. when pepper’s trying to quit, he’s firm in his convictions, willing to defend them pretty harshly, *** while not being portrayed as the stubborn baby of the situation***

actually, it really pisses me off how by and large in the mcu (excluding IM1 and cap 3) tony’s side of any argument tends to be portrayed as having little rational or even emotional validity sometimes??

i’m not saying tony has to necessarily win every argument for his perspective in a conflict to come across as valid, but for instance, consider that argument he had with pepper in IM3 re: keeping pepper in the house to protect her from a terrorist attack, vs the argument with steve in cap 3 re: keeping wanda in the compound to protect her and avoid another public incident. in both situations tony’s doing and arguing for the very paternalistic kind of “i want to do this to protect her regardless of her opinion on it” thing, both times he raises his voice over it so you know he’s doing this from a place of emotional distress (“i can’t protect you out there!” and “give me a break!”) but cap 3 seems to give tony’s side much more weight?? while there’s something about im3 that tries to make his argument with pepper comical, so tony comes across not only as unreasonable but also childish

same with his interactions with natasha in IM2 vs cap 3, actually. take those IM2 scenes when tony’s confronting the fact that natasha was a double agent (the diner scene, and the time tony almost reveals her cover in the office with pepper). again, there’s always a humorous slant to those situations that seem to overshadow the gravity of the fact that natasha infiltrated tony’s life in very intimate ways (idk if you guys remember but she had actual access to his bedroom and walk-in closet) when he was especially emotionally vulnerable due to his terminal health condition, she went over his computer files and accessed iron man armor security protocols at a time when tony was already worried about his technology leaking. like no offense but tony owes natasha jack shit in terms of trust and understanding, but we’re still expected to walk out of IM2 with this understanding that tony is a whimsical 7-yr-old who “doesn’t play well with others” (even though he was shown successfully teaming up with someone who DIDN’T manipulate or lie to him aka rhodey) because of the way he reacted to natasha, who wrote that personality assessment of him. but then, if you look at tony confronting natasha on the balcony in cap 3? she still walks away on him, still gets the last word, still digs back at him (all of which happened during the IM2 office scene with pepper as well) but no part of tony’s problem with what she did is played off as a joke. he’s allowed to be standing in opposition to her without losing his legitimacy. he’s allowed to glare and be frustrated in his body language (hitting the railing with the heel of his hand) when natasha tries to call him out on his ego again

heck even tony’s relationship with the avengers is shown to be more balanced in cap 3 than it was in aou (and trust me this is no compliment to the balance of that dynamic lmao) AT LEAST in that in cap 3, when tony is talking about charlie spencer and the accords and such, he gets to show his frustration with the team at several points, he gets to be bitter, people LET HIM TALK, and wow this is ABSOLUTELY wild but some people actually even agree with him – while in aou, when he tries to clarify the whole ultron situation aka get people to listen that **it was actually impossible for ultron to have come alive without external influence**, not only does the one person who could have backed him up steps away, but also, nobody hardly flinches when thor grabs tony by the throat and lifts him off the ground, and all steve has to do is say “together” to call that meeting to a close aka literally no one gave a FUCK about what tony had to say EVEN THOUGH it could have helped them better understand the situation – and ha even if someone wants to pull the whole “well everyone had just been attacked by a bunch of angry robots and the pressure is high and they can’t be expected to extend fair treatment to a team mate in that situation” (though lmao could you picture the whole team ganging up on any other team member like that? no ha you can’t) anyway even if someone pulled on that card, the way the entire team reacts to tony bringing up the battle of new york and the wormhole (aka eye rolling and “there he goes again” sort of attitude, as if tony was bragging about himself or something) is already pretty telling of the way his opinions are (dis)regarded on a constant basis

like honestly?? honestly with a possible exception of bits and pieces from steve & tony arguments from the first avengers movie, IM1 and cap 3 are the only movies where tony’s allowed to disagree with his friends and be pissed at *non-bad guys* who treat him unfairly without having the movie somehow try to offset his seriousness by making the situation comical, or try to reduce his stance to a manchild’s tantrum of some sort or whatever

i just read the thread on mokumokuren's bsky where they say they describe hikanatsu as a "youth horror" rather than a "romance" but still encourage everyone to make their own interpretations, all while assuring us that it is a queer story no matter the genre.

them labeling it as youth horror instead of romance is not an attempt to downplay the queer elements, but to specifically express an aspect of queerness that is often overlooked -- one that is all too familiar to aro/ace individuals. calling it a romance would simply give people the wrong idea of what to expect from the characters and story.

i don't think i've ever seen any author outside of fandom spaces explicitly try to portray this gray area of not-platonic-not-romantic queer love, and as an aroace queer person myself, it really means the world. usually this kind of "representation" comes from the typical yaois i ship -- "best friend" pairs who cross lines and are speculated by fans to be queer but are never confirmed in any way by the authors or story, leaving it open for this aroace-brand queer interpretation.

but here we are, being confirmed by the author that what yoshiki and ヒカル have is so unique and special that it can't be defined by human concepts of romance and sexuality, but is still undeniably queer. it's... revolutionary, honestly.

it is so important that you are a little bit ugly. please get comfortable with having unplucked eyebrows and nonexistent jawlines and wrinkles. let your blue hair grow out into an uneven pale green and your clothes be old and mend them and modify them until they’re unique to you. wear lipstick which doesnt compliment your skintone and mismatched outfits which went out of fashion 5 years ago. be a little bit too loud and a little bit too passionate and as weird as you can be because oh my god there is nothing more disturbing to me than perfection. beauty is manufactured and sold to us and you need to realise that you are a fucking animal to live a joyful life I am so serious. you cant obsess over aesthetics forever please just live messily and make your body your home however you please.
