shockwave is going to be fascinated by her isn't he ? Not sure if Ashley could traumatise him, he would probably think of it as useful data. Unless she has some kind of effect on shadowplay
hehehe, yep.
Shockwave, as the embodiment of logic, is immune to Ashlyn's existence of craziness. An immovable object meets an unstoppable force, and everyone else takes cover as they collide.
That con knows no fear, he only sees opportunity.
Speaking of opportunity! Here's a little snippet of a future discussion between the two.
Your reaction is illogical.
My reaction is perfectly reasonable! Your data is flawed, and your calculations are invalid!
Illogical. I am never incorrect. I have examined every modicum of variables and sources that could impact the conclusions of this work.
How about emotional health? My mental sanity?
Inconsequential.
Really? Because the last time I lost it, I set a building on fire, does that match your conclusions, oh ye smart-aft?
You are the least concerning of the human pets. Lacking the impulsivity, intelligence, and will of your counterparts.
… I will set your lab on fire, crack your eyeball, and pay a memosurgeon to undo your shadow play so you can spend the rest of your existence wallowing in guilt and emotion.
A promise you cannot hope to fulfill.
Try me.

That what if is insane!!! I loved it oh my god, maybe I’m just biased abut Megatron or something but I don’t care. To be honest that could be its own fic and I’d read the hell out of it because that’s such an interesting plot line and I love how you write stuff like that
hahaha thanks! Honestly, my brain started working and I had to bat down the ideas like I was playing Wac-a-Mole
My Brain: Too many WIP! Too many exams! Too little time!
Also my Brain: But what if we do this hyper-specific scenario, plot out a novel's worth of content, with an interconnected plot that maintains the original lore with a twist, and then go ahead and split that into two different scenarios again.
I've got like 10 WIP and I've just added some more to the pile ( מּ,_מּ)
no promises, but I'm curious.

Dedicated to you anon, I present Mrs. Bree Murphy
Age: 62, Ethnicity: Irish-American
She's a retired Naval Officer (a portion of her career was spent [REDACTED] ) who is working because A, this pays for her grandbaby's college, and B, because retirement is boring and pushing pencils isn't nearly as dangerous as [REDACTED] but still interesting enough to keep her head in the game.
She's the person who mans communications between Fowler, General Bryce, and Agent Simmons. She's also the person who would forward any ransom calls from extraterrestrials (ie Soundwave/Starscream/Megatron) and connect them to Agent Fowler. Murphy would play elevator music during these connections, filling her nails during the "inferior organics, bow to our whims speech" before asking in a disappointed grandma voice if any of them bothered to learn diplomacy alongside English.
She has a legitimate typewriter for reports and dictations. the clacking is very satisfying.
So is the face the General makes when the bing goes off. Usually when he's about to sign off on something stupid.
Do not get between this woman and the coffee pot. The sign says communal but that is a lie.
Artisan beans and specialty coffee are not bribes... but it is a way to get on her good side. The good side is the adoptive-military grandmother side.

Very similar to Ratchet except she throws pens instead of wrenches

We always get what if’s (apart from bayverse I think) where she doesn’t try to drastically change the plot but the plot gets drastically changed anyway because of the butterfly effect. I’d love to see what her actively trying to change the plot would look like, especially in Tfp lmao.
I have to agree with you, but even in Bayverse, I would argue that Ash isn't really trying to actively change things. She just doesn't care about the consequences of her actions and is trying to create as much distance between her and the transformers as possible. Of course, that backfires completely.
It's mostly because a key part of her character is seeking to maintain control, part of that is by keeping the plot intact and predictable. Ashlyn knows what's coming, but she also knows it ultimately has a happy ending. It's an anchoring point for her psyche. That said, should I twerk her just a bit, and make the sadistic controlling impulse stronger than her empathy for the characters, then she would twist the plotlines and enjoy the show. Conversely, if I took away her anxiety and the plot was no longer an anchoring point... well, you guys are going to need to stick around to find out :)
Truthfully, when I imagine Ashlyn actively targeting plotlines to purposefully change things, she tends to take on villainish tendencies. Part of that is having her morality inherently skewed by originating as a viewer and not a participant, and depending on the ultimate goal (controlling or protecting) it can vary in severity.
I've really only had her deliberately trying to alter plotlines in my Scaplete AU (which is on AO3). In one scenario, before the bots came to Earth, she employed Doc Green to recover the scraplete pod in the Arctic and reprogramme/distribute them as everyday pets and a deterrent to metal aliens. In another, she messed with the Groundbrige coordinates so it locked on the Nemesis, and the Autobots won the war. She also later went on to torment M.E.C.H with them. Except for targeting M.E.C.H, all of those choices where centered around protecting someone.
In Of Timelines and Trolleys Ashlyn is eventually going to reach the point of "not giving a frag" and will use her knowledge to actively manipulate and alter things on a wider scale. Butterfly Effects regardless, she will use the information she has. There will be lore drops, forcefully bringing in Rescue Bots, and full-on psychological warfare, all triggered by her own character growth. It's part of her individual arc to go from an intentionally neutral character to one that's intentionally involved. Unfortunately, it's hard to streamline that process in a What if? scenario.
But that pattern is something for me to keep my eye on. I'd hate Ashlyn Moore of all ocs to become predictable.

FIC UPDATE
Currently working on the next chapter of timelines, but due to the narrative structure, this is going to take longer than usual 😅
I’ll try to drop some AUs and answers to asks to tied y’all over.
On the plus side, once I finish sorting what I’m working on, I should be able to drop chapters pretty quickly!

How do you think cybertronian society would react (pre war) to ashlyn like unleashed on their planet, because personally I think that would be hilarious and also terrifying. Do I ask this mainly because the thought of young D-16 and either current story Ashlyn or pre story Ashlyn interacting is both terrifying and interesting? Yes.
Honestly, it could go so many different ways, *evil cackle*
Speaking of the new movie, is everybody else hyped? CAUSE I AM SO EXCITED! FINALLY, we are getting a fun animated Transformers film ヾ(*´ ∇ `)ノ
I saw that cross-eye megatron reference from Bumblebee, tfp anyone?
ᕕ(⌐■_■)ᕗ ♪♬
ehem, happy dance aside, here's what I think a Golden Age Ashlyn would have been like...
Presuming that she fell into this situation as a Human things get awkward very quickly. Organics aren't very well received on Cybertron nevermind how their products are luxury goods apparently
Running through the streets, ducking under vendor stalls, and darting between peds like a literal street rat, Ashlyn is very very confused on what the utter frag happened to her.
Unfortunately, as an organic alien lifeform, especially as one that is currently undiscovered, she is VERY distinctive. Her small size helps her a bit with sneaking, but eventually, it becomes common knowledge that a weird creature is hanging around. It doesn't help that her need for breathable air severely restricts potential roaming areas, and only a handful of stores/merchants carry edible food items.
Already making a name for herself as a pest... in a surprisingly literal sense.
When she's eventually spotted and caught by a Cybe with particularly good reflexes, Ash is forced to come up with something fast so she doesn't get squished. By now, you all know where her self-defense tendencies tend to point to.
On the plus side, the twerp survived. On the negative, he's going to need a new servo since the wiring that articulates his digits is beyond saving. Also, a small feral organic that goes for joints is apparently entertainment enough for these people. Welcome to the mini and illegal gladiator battles, Ashlyn! The unregulated leagues for those who can't afford to go watch the real thing.
Look at her go, gaining all the XP fighting alien bugs and other mini-bosses.
Of course, 3 things occurred during this time period. 1) Ashlyn is actually picking up on Neocybex and proving surprisingly adept at it. 2) She's starting to gain a legitimate reputation and doing Humans Are Space Orcs proud via creative/brutal takedowns of her opponents, and biological features that can be terrifying to an alien. 3) Someone in Iacon has quietly been looking for a creature resembling her specifications, but due to the fact that Ashlyn is in Kaon and an asset of an illegal fighting ring, she is unidentifiable.
Of course when Ashlyn finally gains enough of an affinity for Neocybex, (with a very thick kaon accent) she wants to wait to reveal her sentience until it's at a point where she can't be knocked off or ignored. That plan does not last. No.
Because Ashlyn Moore, covered in robot gore, looks up one day to see a very familiar outline.
"ɎØɄ"
D-16, for his part, is very confused as to why the little alien just looked at him and started chittering like a sparkling while shaking.
The crowd is in an uproar.
See humans do look very similar in structure to a basic Cybertronain model. Even more so when you compare it to a sparkling model which is squishy. eh, Unicron connection?
The point is, an unidentified, kinda sparkling-ish thing, that sounds like sparkling, has also just fulfilled one of the oldest Sparkling-Guardian rituals of choosing an adult to protect them. Look at ze adult, go to ze adult, don't let ze adult leave without you.
Ashlyn might not have had such... noble intentions when she launched herself at D-16 while rambling, but such is the beauty of cultural miscommunications. And dehydration and malnourishment. And an almost chronically activated stress response. You get situations like these!
"ɎØɄ!-гЅ₮₳₭Ɇ ₴Ø₥Ɇ ⱤɆ₴₱Ø₦₴ł฿łⱠł₮Ɏ! …-₣Ɽ₳₲ł₦₲ ฿Ʉ₲₴ ł'VɆ ₭łⱠⱠɆĐ?"
Ashlyn is only half understandable in this state, but it's fine. D-16, and soon all of Kaon understands perfectly.
A scrappy deformed sparkling, likely originating from an unidentified hot spot, beat the odds and has chosen an ex-miner and soon full-time gladiator to be her sire/mentor. What a spark-warming story.
Oh yeah, and someone in Iacon is still hunting that human.
The end result would probably culminate in an overly suspicious Ashlyn accidentally causing a chain reaction that would lead to a Decepticon Orion Pax, a proper coup of the High Council, probably Emperor of Destruction Starscream, and Big Villian Shockwave. The Autobots would not exist. Does anyone want to try and theorize why?
D-16 would realize pretty quick that this tiny bundle of chaos isn't an actual sparkling, but it's an argument he'd use to keep her should any outside influences try and take Ashlyn away. Why? Because a highly intelligent and vicious mystery just dropped into his lap, and someone on the Council wants it really badly. That's more than enough of a justification.
Now, if only he could find out why the organic hates him so much... and why she's so valuable.
Now Ashlyn as a bot would be VERRRRRY different.
Same as the first, she pops up in Kaon (may or may not be a narrative reason for that (・ω<) )
Unlike the human version, the poor girl is caught almost immediately.
Turns out, stumbling around a foreign area, being unable to speak the language, and lacking identification doesn't get you the best treatment. Unfortunately, her more bestial-looking design doesn't help much either in a Functionist society.
Actually, the Enforcers processing her are pretty confused by it, the wings and taloned servos say Seeker, but the spines and fanged denta hint at something else completely... and the subject refuses, or is unable to, transform into an altmode...
Oh well, can't put it in a category, and then toss it out.
Flagging the weirdness for the bosses to deal with, the anomaly is sent to the mines, and a record containing her image and newly given designation is sent to the higher offices. YN-013 is soon forgotten.
Ashlyn, by the time she figures out written translations for Neocybex, finds the designation hilarious. Her fellow miners don't understand why she giggles when she introduces herself.
The mines are horrible, that much is undeniable, but at the same time, Ashlyn can't help but feel like it should be worse?
Her form proves adept at collecting energon, her claws far more efficient than the half-rusted pick-axe she's handed every day. The energon is easy to find too, almost like there's a sixth sense in her brain for where those shards are hiding.
She doesn't realize that the tunnels she's stationed in quickly gain a reputation for being more productive. That her peers end their days not quite as run down anymore. That miners switch shifts and bribe to be in the same branch of tunnels. She's quickly become an omen of good luck and temporary revival.
Ashlyn also doesn't realize that someone in Iacon is tearing through every rumor on Cyberton looking for her... or the organic her.
D-16 hears rumors about the newest unfortunate spark that's been sent to join them in the dark, but he doesn't believe it. Not until he sees it.
There is something about this individual that's different, maybe the stories are true. Solus reforged, perhaps? The missing Thirteenth? Or is this a new prime, come to save them and bring Cybertron back to its glory.
Ashlyn for her part is vibing collecting pretty rocks, and would prefer the future genocidal maniac to stay far away from her, please.
The not-yet-future-genocidal-maniac does not leave. Instead, he talks.
D-16 is actually the one that teaches her proper Neocybex, not the fragmented version she's been getting by with. In return, she tells him what the surface was like for the brief bit of time she was there.
Over time, the strange happenings around YA-013 are normalized and forgotten, but not by D-16. He knows she is not just some wild-forged thing that had the bad to stumble into the wrong city-state. He knows that she can't just be some bestial new-forged, because her optics are far too aware, too knowing. She hesitates, as though shuffling through information when she speaks. The alien babble she talks to herself in, while basic, is too natural to be anything but a primary language. Her smiles are sad even if the laughter is easy. She says things, and calls him Bucket Head, and Mega-arse.
She already knows who his favorite Prime is.
YN-013 never comments when he explains his plans to become a gladiator and gain his freedom. But he can feel the judgment. The resignation. Like she already knew. "Forget about me when you become one of the most famous bots to walk on Cybertron, yeah? Little old me will be nothing compared to the masses that'll scream your name."
YN-013 never talked about her own future, not in a way that sounds lasting. "I'd like to sightsee while I can. Never know when city walls will go tumbling down."
Megatronus doesn't forget her. Not in the Pits as he battles against foes and realizes how much healthier his frame is compared to his opponents, how much stronger, despite them all feeding off the same scraps. He doesn't forget as he meets an Archivist and hears all the snide jokes about his type being "boys in red and blue. Sweet nerds that take forever to commit to ending you."
Orion Pax, quickly becomes a close friend. Megatron never comments on his paint job. He's yet to see Pax exhibit anything but an agreeable and slightly excitable disposition... but he can't help but hold back even as he chides his own superstition.
"I don't think you'll have much luck in the friend department, Bucket. "
Why had he never gone back for her? Why had she never joined him in the arena?
"That's your origin story, D, and I'd hate to incinerate your undefeated record."
Megatron doesn't forget the stranger hidden in the mines. Not when he meets Orion's mentor, not when he stands before the Council, not as every veiled barb, sorrowful mutter, or hidden revelation comes true.
Even when he goes back for her and finds her gone, the Warlord never forgets the seer of the mines.
YN-013 had never realized, that just as D-16 had taught her a language, so too had she taught him hers. Every private word, every thoughtless exclamation, he remembered.
No, that unfortunate spark in the mines was not a wild-forged femme with bad luck. She was not a prime, remade, or replace. She was something different. A puzzle, a friend, an asset.
Lord Megatron, leader of the Decepticons, never forgot.
So how strange was it, to find a planet that spoke that same tongue?
The Autobots seek a relic and the Decepticons search for a seer. Optimus inherits a charge that can only be fulfilled through a missing person and Megatron wants closure to the fate and identity of someone he might've considered a friend.
Ashlyn struggles with guilt over choosing to not change the timeline and has been hiding on Earth since the last few centuries of the war. She's spawned more than a few stories in her wanderings, triggered some changes she never realized. A shifter who went rogue after a drunken conversation at a bar and never swore his loyalty. Bartering fuel with an Autobot vessel, allowing the Ark to avoid Decepticon Scouts and remain unharmed. A Prime who learned the truth about his predecessors early, and resolved to do more than simply restore his planet to what it used to be.
Ashlyn can't hide from the plot forever. War or not, things have changed, and now she's part of that story.

Asking this as a British person BUT IS ASHLYN BRITSH?? If so I feel like in traditional 2010’s style the kids would constantly make the bohtle of wahter jokes and the like
Oh, they most definitely would! Probably with a few POH-TTAHs sprinkled in.
Honestly, Ashlyn's nationality isn't something I've given much thought to. Originally, in the very very early and unpublished version of this story, she was a self-insert (Oh the cringy shame! but I was in middle school... so valid excuse?) Then I re-discovered my old writing when I was looking for inspiration and decided to fix it up, create a proper plot, and post it. Part of that transition was remaking Ashlyn into a Y/N type character, where I kept the name only because I find Y/N very jarring, instead of purely a mask for my own individual voice.
She is no longer a mini-me, my child is complete with her own virtues and vices that have nothing to do with my previous 11-year-old brain but there are definitely some traces of my voice still left in her. Mostly in her creative swearing.
As the fic has developed, she's definitely grown into her own fully actualized character, and I am *this close* to removing the reader insert tag altogether. The only thing stopping me is that, other than her very striking personality, Ashlyn Moore is still pretty vague.
This makes sense because the story focuses on her transition and the after-effects of dimension hopping, but that means that other details are lost because they aren't as narratively important.
I think I'll continue to leave most of her background up to the reader's interpretation. But, considering the fact you lovable internet stalkers have sussed out that I'm British, her sharing some elements of that would fit with the origins of her character.
But yeah, I feel like Vince would have made a water bottle comment when they first met.
And then Ashlyn would have chucked the bottle at him.

You Once Said that despite humans(both kinds) not having Sparks their not soulless could you elaborate ?
YESSS, so sorry it's taken so long for me to get back to this.
One of the reasons I created this separation is because the idea of how sparks, and how we infer souls to work are so different that it didn't make sense to simply moosh them together. Neo-humans (Envoys included) do have a pseudo-spark that reflects Unicron's Antispark, but it's not the same as a traditional spark.
A cybertronian's spark, as much as it is a spiritual thing, is very much physical. It can be touched, it can be broken, it is very obviously there. It is literally a key part of their anatomy, used to keep them functioning, potentially reproduce, and even form bonds with others. Sparks are a very real and tangible part of a Cybertronian's life, but that also makes it very vulnerable. If something can be touched, it can be stolen.
Sparkeaters anyone?
Souls are different. Yes, they are unique to an individual. Yes, they are the part that will last beyond death. But for humanity, souls do not have such a strong part in our normal lives. Unless you specifically choose to focus on it, many won't bother thinking about it. Some individuals deny it exists. Many disagree on its nuances. It's more of a concept, vague in a way that we can never fully understand, weighty in a way we cannot comprehend. It is not part of the physical. It is not something we can touch. But that means it's not something that can be stolen.
In Once Upon A Time Humanity mirrors Cybertronain's sparks with souls. Both have something more to them, something lasting, something that makes them moral creatures, but they are opposite halves of each other.
For humans, at least, the soul is something that can never be lost or taken advantage of.
Thank you for reading and I hope that makes sense!

What duty or position does Mr. Nakadai hold ?
Mr Nakadai is essentially a Military Leader and Strategist.
Formerly a very successful businessman, he's a guy who deeply respects his Japanese tradition and history, and, while somewhat distant, deeply loves his family. Nakadai Hibiki was a man who built his life from the ground up, self-made, determined, and incredibly disciplined.
He also collected and trained with swords as a hobby.
So this man, who had everything ripped away from him except ChiChi and DingDong, the two Scottish Folds remade into metallic felines. The one source of hope was that the fate of his only child remained unknown. Finding Miko was his only goal, and now that he has, Hibiki wants justice for her death.
This is a man who knows how to organize people, who knows how to read people, and, yes, knows how to use a katana.
There are other survivors, people with proper military or government experience but not many of them are willing to leave Earth and galavant around space for an unknown period of time. Hibiki is.
So while June remains home and begins rising as a uniforming leader and advisor, Hibiki assembles and maintains teams that go out and search for the Lost while performing his own searches.
Which means he's one of the first leaders Cybertronians make contact with.

sometimes you want to light something on fire(in a controled environment) and watch it Burns while listenings to the night
The Ashlyn is strong in this one.
Honestly, that's my favorite thing to do with campfires. Just watching the flames move, shrinking back in the wind or creeping along the wood. Hearing birds sing and branches creak as the sky gets darker, bugs waking up with their soft chittering, the occasional owl hooting, and the constant crackle of the fire.
It's very comforting, absorbing even. Burning random sticks or the occasional marshmallow included. You can understand why young children have the urge to stick their hands in the light when they don't know any better. It's beautiful. Fascinating even as you watch everything they touch wither, blacken, and turn to unidentifiable ash.
... the need to build a bonfire is strong...
I'll settle for a candle for now.

Ok so if Ashlynn was cyberformed or somehow changed species by artifact (looking at earthspark) would she end up looking like her seeker-esque design in the lost chapter or something else? Sorry if this was a dumb question lmao
Not dumb at all!
I actually do have Ashlyn undergo a few cyber formations in a few runoff AUs, but yes, she does tend to swing between a seeker and a predacon design. Some versions might lean stronger to one side, but typically she will carry traits from both. Part of that is because I find the looks so pwetty, but it also does play in a little with Ashlyn's characterization.
The flight orientation is primarily because that's where Ash's mind typically is, ready to run, or fly, away should it be necessary. She is forming emotional connections with Team Prime, but she's still hiding the truth of her situation because she doesn't completely trust them. Whether that be from an external source or her own internal fear, Ashlyn is keeping herself from being fully "grounded" by her friends. Instead, she is ready to physically split should it become clear that she is a target instead of a viewer. Additionally, it also helps illustrate some of her personality since flight is traditionally a Decepticon capability. That doesn't make her a con, but Ashlyn does have some not-so-pleasant traits and impulses. Survival is typically her priority, if she has to play dirty, or act preemptively to protect herself or others she will do it, and if violence is the tool employed she'll use it until she doesn't need to. Ashlyn does have a minor sadistic streak, one that she actively tampers down, and she does have a manipulative side that will become more active later.
I love my little gremlin, but there is a legitimate reason besides "bad luck" for why specific cons are terrified of her. Constantly being on edge, seeking methods of control, relatively desensitized to canon violence, and fully capable of emotionally closing herself off to "characters," Ashlyn could give M.E.C.H. a run for their money if she wanted to. She's just actively choosing to play nice.
The Predacon aspect comes in for similar reasonings. As she is, Ashlyn is "a creature of potential" in a few different ways- some very literal. But she does have the potential to take on a predatory role just as much as she could be trapped as prey. Ash's already tapped in on this with one con, and that interaction is partly why the Spider was interested in her. Likewise, Ashlyn technically also hails from another age of Cybertron. Her lore, the explanation for her existence, is rooted in those pre-cataclysm days. Under that logic, she could be considered a revived remnant, similar to Predaking. And like Predaking (and what I'm inferring for common Predacon dynamics) she will always want to protect her "pack." Biological, adoptive, or found family, she will fight for the people she considers hers. Additionally playing into the whole predacon aspect, Ashlyn is a very wild character. She acts unexpectedly and flips situations on their heads, but she's also an individual who refuses to be tamed against her will (which may or may not be important).
Either way, Ashlyn would never fully fall into either subclass. She'll always have a mix of characteristics, being too sharp and armored to be seen as a regular Seeker or too small and fragile to match a true Predacon. She will always be shifting between the two whenever I write her in a bot form because it's a physical manifestation of her shifting priorities and mindsets. Prey or predator. Provoke or protect. Leave or stay.
And again, it's also really dang pretty in my personal opinion. I'm mean enough to this girl; she deserved to get pampered!

if there anything that is toxic to humans anymore ?
A lot actually. Remember everything has just been metal-fyed and upped to 11. The only difference is that exaggeration is deeply exaggerated when compared to regular bots. For a comparison roughly 70% of edible earthen substances could be toxic for a Cybe, for Humanity that statistic is lowered to 40% but only 20% have the potential to be fatal. That scale can fluctuate based on concentrations, individual allergies (yep still have those), and previous exposure.
For extraterrestrial substances, there could be things out there which are still harmful, Tox-En for instance would have an effect on a Neo-Human. Not a lay down and die effect, but prolonged exposure to a high concentration could result in a coma.
Of course, when Humanity discovers it, they quickly add it as a flavoring during their space travels. The regular small doses help to build up an immunity/tolerance.
This does not help the rumors.

Is there a (important)story how rodimus prime came to be or is it not plot relavent ?
Currently, it isn't particularly relevant to the story or even fully fleshed out.
However, if the inspiration appears, I could see it coming up later. Likely featuring some tie-in with Smokescreen, I think it would specifically deal with the shifting politics and forming divisions. Definitely some angst and further development of Team Prime's feelings about the loss of Earth and it would feature some disillusionment on Smoky's end.
To me, I think he would have been one of the original candidates for The Matrix, but he couldn't go through with it so Hot Rod was eventually chosen instead. Part of his whole maturity arc, but instead of only recognizing himself as in need of grief, but also the civilization he's a part of.
Maybe the full story will come to me. We'll have to see.

Hi this is like my first time doing an ask on tumblr so sorry if this comes out weird or something but like how do you think the bots would react to like the humans having conversations purely with body language?
It's not weird at all!
I think this would actually be such a cool and funny interaction. Depending on the version/author, Cybertronians seem to communicate through verbal language, spark bonds, and their EM Fields, but it is all very nuanced. It's either a very specific verbal, or sometimes physical through sign, language, or a literal expression of the individual's spark. Very little room for interpretation and an extremely exact way of expressing oneself.
And then compare that to body language.
Sure, some gestures are kinda universally acknowledged to mean a specific thing like stop or go or left or right, but a significant portion of it is just based off vibes. Meanings are rooted in the context surrounding the scenario, who the speakers are, the relationship between the speakers, etc...
It's just so vague, and yet so much can be conveyed? Not only in larger movements; a gesture, a shrug, a wave, body orientation, or nodding, but also in expressions. Brow creasing, brow lifted, wiggling brow, look through the brow, eyes widen, smirk, smile, grin, frown, scowl, pressing lips closed... it's all so incredibly nuanced and detailed but almost entirely up for interpretation. Major portions of it are subconscious interpretations just as much as a purposeful show. It's insane if you think about it.
ehm, but I'm derailing.
I think a bot witnessing that would be both mesmerized and very very confused.
There is no signaling. No speech, no telepathic communique. HOW ARE YOU COMMUNICATING?
I could see the kids having a full-on debate from across a mine on one of their sneak-out runs. Just sibling "I am going to strangle you when the aliens aren't looking," and "Try it and I'll bite you. where's the con?"
They get back to the base and resume the argument, this time out loud, and the bots are just so, so confused.
When Smokescreen or Wheeljack become permanent members of the team, they're just told "Humans are just like that."
