Thinking about the recent interviews and all the bits and pieces we're getting. The near messiah having a nervous breakdown comment, the hyper sexualized being comment, the everything informed by trauma comment, the following Anne Rice's lead by making the series take a dramatic turn with TVL comment. They're truly going to embrace the insane chaos that was Rice's storytelling while making it better for having the clarity of the entire story before them to mold. They've already proven it with the first part of the tale. I'm sure it's going to continue to be incredible.
But those comments have also created a stupid brainworm. What if Lestat's seemingly over-the-top murder of the priests in season one connects to his past and the monastery? What if something more happened beyond his father not thinking much of an education? What if that something is the real reason he's brought home and the catalyst for his family's treatment of him after? What if him being locked away is punishment for what he'd suffered there? What if he's blamed and deemed a monster that tempted a priest and all that utter bullshit. The ocean between Christ and himself. What if "gifted pupil" has a darker, traumatic undertone.
What if Louis' priests were not as kind as Louis thought?
What if they were?
Trauma informs everything, right.
It wouldn't be true to the original story, but this is an adaptation, and it's not that much of a stretch from Lestat's experiences in the chronicles. And when you think of his book canon interactions with the divine...
Or maybe not.
Time will tell.
#iwtv#interview with the vampire#lestat de lioncourt#amc iwtv#amc interview with the vampire#blabbering#brain worms#trauma#SA#his panic attacks#his reaction to the witch's place#him blaming himself for everything#the possibility is already there#and his imprisonment after the monastery is an addition the adaptation has made that mirrors what happens later with Magnus#would they continue with those flashpoints mirroring each other?#the story as it stands explains his distance from the religion of his youth but I can't help#filling the void with more horrors while I wait for content#ever growing ramble be warned#maybe a consensual relationship with another student?#I would imagine the reaction by his abusive father would be very similar.#thinking of Lestat talking about his father and his education at the Pointe du Lac family dinner *sobs*#for him to be denied so much & then marry Louis in the church...would make how he delivers the church line in the trial#all the more heartbreaking#I don't know I just feel like there has to be something there. Why change it so that he is not only taken away but so violently?#it's such an extreme reaction by his father to agree to his education and then remove him and proceed to torture him at home. What the hell#is it simply a device because he is older they won't have him violently abducted from the acting troupe as a teen#so they've compounded the trauma to one point? Is it intentional that it mirrors his abduction & turning by Magnus?#his father's actions still need more context#Lestat's brutal murder of the priests still needs more context

Hopefully the "a wolf congratulated for not killing her pup" line comes into play in season three. I feel like it already comes across as a recollection, like something is coming full circle in Lestat's mind, like he's parroting something said in the past. So, I hope it's a moment of clarity for him that reverberates beyond their present situation. A dot that we'll get to connect later. I don't know. It's a great line without any tendrils into the deeper past but it would be fun to have an aha moment in season 3 of oh that's what he was thinking about, that's the other layer, that's what's also going on there.

"Just a sweeping hand to a pile of money..." This line kills me. Such a degrading, demeaning compensation for the evil inflicted and a life stolen. Whether that was Magnus' intent or not it's nauseating.

When real life and IWTV meet:
Storyville - New Orleans Music Map
Two blocks up Iberville, away from the river, was Pete Lala’s saloon, which also featured the best musicians in town. Jelly Roll Morton recalled a pool game there:
One day we were all up at Lala’s saloon. Pensacola Kid was playing Buster Brown for ten dollars a round and they asked me to keep the game. In came Chicken Dick, the Uptown roughneck, and started yelling…. He hit me hard and I fell on the table with my hands on some balls. I hauled off and hit him with a pool ball and he jumped like he was made of rubber…. They gave me a name. ‘Don’t fool with Winding Boy. He like to kill Chicken Dick.’ I had sense enough to know it wasn’t healthy to wear a name like that around New Orleans where some tough guy might decide to see how hard I really was. So I decided to accept Tony Jackson’s invitation to visit Chicago.
--Jelly Roll leaving New Orleans. Also, I had to add the picture of the Anderson Storyville building!
