Your flowers had stopped growing.
You couldn't be sure, but all of your flowers had six petals. All except the new one blooming, it wrapped its way around your pinky finger but only five petals were present. Uncertainty filled your mind. 5 petals. How long had they been there? Was it possible that it was working on a vine or a leaf, only to come back to the last petal, if there was to be a final petal.
It had been 2 days since you’d spent the night with your sister, Theodosia and Philip. Spending time with them was a solace and you were more then eager to be away from the monster that was unfortunately still your fiance. You spent a full day with them on a picnic yesterday. Sure it was a bit awkward to start with but at least you werent the only third wheel anymore, you had someone to keep you company while Theo and your sister occupied each other
---
"theyre pretty cute huh.." philip says softly. He was leaning against a tree while you sat across from him working on a drawing. He looks over across the meadow to watch your sister and Theodosia pick wild flowers to weave into each other's hair.
"they’re so perfect for eachother" you say looking up from your drawing over at them your eyes meeting his in understanding
"I wish I could meet my soulmate..." Philip sighed softly. He hadn't stayed up to date with his flowers. He'd been obsessed at one point, his eyes glued to his arm. He’d trace them with a pen, growing disappointed when a new vine or leaf would emerge from under the ink. He rarely glanced at them now to avoid the disappointment. Philip knew the chances of meeting your soulmate was slim but he couldn't help but hope, desperate as hope may have seemed. It didn’t help that he was engaged to someone who had already met her soulmate.
"me too.." you say as you take a second to glance down at your own markings. You looked to your newest flower tracing the familiar pattern with your fingertip counting the petals, sighing softly, still only five petals.
"Is everthing okay?" philip asks curiously
"uh.." you say quietly briefly looking at him and then back to your flowers "I think maybe my flowers might have stopped growing.. Im not entirely sure but I think they might have..?" You trail off meeting his eyes as you lean back.
"Do you know who it could be if they have?" Philip asks as he looks over, he catches a brief glance at your wrist, his breath catching in his throat, the flowers weaving their way around your hand looked so familiar- no no he shook his head. How could he could he even entertain the thought, there was no way...
"no..." you say with a soft sigh, even on the small chance that you had met your soul mate, the options weren't looking good. On one hand you had George; you would rather live without a soulmate than live with him. On the other hand the only other new person you had spent time with in the last few months was Philip. The universe would never be that kind to you, besides there was that teeny tiny problem. He waa engaged to your sister.
---
Philip had spoken to his mother the day after you told them what had happened with George. She, as expected, was completely horrified. She listened as Philip explained what you had told him and your sister and how it made him feel. He didn't need to embellish anything, he would never admit it but he cared about you, more than in just a sister in law way. He couldn't do anything about it of course, because you were engaged and so was he. But with your sister and Theo being confirmed soul mates he knew he would never be number one for her. Philip was honest with himself, and sadly felt a bit cheated. He'd always grown up with his parents' example, they may not have been soulmates but they did truly love each other. He thought he would have that when he grew up. Well, he had hoped anyway. But the world seemed to have a very different plan. The conversation you'd had with him the day after the picnic only made his feelings and thoughts more confusing.
You were sitting in your room with your sister, Theodosia, Philip and Angelica when the Eackers arrived. The shouting was heard by all through three closed doors and a flight of stairs. Philip filled you and your sister in on what had happened the day before. His mother had interrupted Alexander at work to tell him he had to do something. He'd listened as his wife relayed everything Philip said to her that afternoon. Allowing her own suspicions of how their son felt about you to be heard as well. He  agreed to call off the engagement. Not only could Alexander see how much it meant to his son, but if a family was willing to pretty much give their youngest daughter away to be a prisoner locked in a room. It wasn't a family he wanted his son to marry into.
He'd met with your parents the next afternoon, they were equally horrified. Your mother was beside herself, your father however was embarrassed at hearing about it from an outsider instead of you. When he’d called you into the office to explain, your sister had spoken for you. She hadn't realised Philip would be talking to his parents so quickly. She herself had planned to bring it up that afternoon. Then the yelling had started. Your father at you. Your sister and mother at your father.
Mrs. Hamilton had quickly intervened, telling Philip to take you, Theo, your sister and his upstairs. They would be the ones to handle things for now. Your father had sent a message for the Eackers, requesting their urgent presence. Alexander and Eliza had just taken their leave before the Eacker’s arrival.
The Eackers were in your fathers office with your parents for over an hour before you heard anything. A stark change to when the Hamilton’s were in there, it was so silent you could hear a pin drop.
"Y/N!" Your father calls. You look at your sister quickly, unsure what to expect. She stands at the top of the stairs with Angie, Theo and Philip as you make your way down. George was waiting at the bottom of the stairs with your father. His parents were already waiting outside in the carriage.
"Darling” George says with false endearment. “Your father has told us the most disturbing things. I'm not sure how you’ve become mistaken.. I am so sorry that you thought we’d ever.. well that we’d ever mistreat you in any way, I could never.." he says holding out a hand for you, taking yours when you stare into his open palm, he uses it to pull you flush against his, his other holding you close “you have to know that. I would never dream of treating my bride to be with such hate.” His voice was thick with sadness and regret. You were a bit impressed by  his acting abilities, though they were merely an extension of his twisted nature and despicable lies. You were even more repulsed that he could even put on such an act after the way he had planned to treat you.
"Well now that all that has been sorted.. until next time Mr Eacker" your father says dismissively as he breezes past you both without a glance in your direction retreating back into his office. You looked around for your mother, she had already left to the garden, leaving you alone with George.
"Wait.. were still getting married?" You ask in confusion, your eyebrows furrowing across your forehead. You could feel your skin growing cold. The realization of your near future playing vicious images in your mind, this couldn’t be happening.
"Well of course we are sweetheart.." George saying taking your arm, squeezing just hard enough that it was uncomfortable. He watches your fathers office door shut as he leans in "listen, closely, I wont say this twice.. if you ever pull a stunt like this again.." his voice was rough and cold, dripping with the thrill of threatening you.
You look up the stairs meeting the curious and worried eyes of your sister, best friend and the Hamiltons. George pulls you out of their view. You barely heard his harsh words, they didn't make any impact, you couldn't believe it. Not only had George managed to weasel his way around your father, but now your father was angry with you for telling the Hamiltons before you told him. According to him therewas nothing wrong and you had made a fuss only to embarrass him in front of the Hamiltons and the Eackers. That couldn't be further from the truth, although you knew he would never see it that way, if he wouldn’t listen to Mr and Mrs Hamilton what hope did you have?
You were pulled from your thoughts as George kissed your cheek, it took everything in you not to flinch "I'd spend as much time as you can with them. That room of yours is going to be terribly lonely.." he whispers lowly looking from you up to the stairs where your friends were waiting. George smiled widely and waved, leaving your wrist with a handprint, that brought a red color to your flowers, before he headed to the door to leave with his parents. As soon as they were out of view, you dashed up the stairs to join your best friend, sister, her fiancé and his sister.
"What happened??" Theo asks asks as your sister hugs you tightly.
"Nothing... he lied and- “ You had to pause trying to control the fear your voice was sure to give away. “were still getting married" you say quietly as you hold onto her. Theo wrapped her arms around you both, holding you close. She couldn't believe it. Much like your sister, she'd offered to go and sort George out herself when your sister filled her in on what had been happening. Theodosia was a big believer in soulmates, the day she found your sister was the happiest day of her life. She felt that everyone deserved to experience the once in a lifetime happiness. Though she understood why some people didn't marry for love, she'd always found it cold how people married their children off. Even when it worked out. It was unfathomable to her that George and his family would treat you like that, and to actively plan it before you got married was beyond horrific.
"How- what-" Angie says looking over to Philip quickly. He stood with his hand clenched tightly around the banister watching the carriage retreat down the drive. His jaw was set and tight with tension, his eyes full of anger. He really thought this was going to work. When you'd told him and (S/N) what happened he thought your father would listen to his and sort it out. He was horrified to learn not only was George getting away with it but just as your sister had predicted, it didn't seem like your father cared. At least not enough to put a stop to it, unlike his own parents.
When Eliza had told Alexander he'd been furious, admittedly not just at the situation but for his own reputation (which was a problem in itself but not the one Philip wanted to focus on right now). If word got out that his daughter in law was being kept prisoner in such awful conditions the fall back on him, as a politician tasked with shaping the future, would be astronomical. And make no mistake, it would get out, Philip and (S/N) would make sure of it.
(S/N) was pissed, there was no point in talking to your parents now. As far as they were concerned everything was resolved, it was just teenage meddling, despite the fact Philip’s parents has been involved. Your parents, especially your father, wouldn't hear anything more on the subject. In fact he was likely to raise his temper if she even thought of bringing up the subject. She glanced at Philip before she and Theodosia lead you to your room. She could tell he felt bad about talking to his parents straightaway. He should've listened to her and let her approach your parents first, it was a little late for that however.. she thought settling you into your bed tucking the small blanket around you comfortingly.
"Thats it... there's nothing to be done. I have to marry him.." you say slowly, your voice full of defeat.  Your shoulders slumped as your sad eyes look to your sister and your best friend, taking their hands in each of yours "I'm going to spend every second with you guys.” You said finding a new determination “The next time I see him will not be a second before I have to"

Things were going.. okay?
It was a few weeks later and you'd gone out with George more times. You were really beginning to like him, your parents of course liked him. Your sister however.. she felt there was something off about him. She couldn't put it into words however so you pushed it aside to focus on trying to make it work. It helped you have someone to take your mind off of Philip. He'd often be at your house with your sister so it was nice to head out with George.
He'd taken you out to the gardens, for dinner, to the market, but not back to his parents home. Well until last night. He’d invited you to dinner with your parents. It had started off well. They'd be pleasant, even a little warm which made you feel happy, maybe you'd have a relationship with them. After dinner his mother suggested that he give you a tour of the estate, his family was rich so it was a lengthy tour. You were happy to learn more about it, so far it was be surface level questions you'd asked about him, and he about you.  He started the tour with the gardens, they were beautiful, his mother had a vegetable patch that she was incredible proud of, she also had a pink and red rose bush that had been in the family for over 100 years, all the family wedding bouquets were picked from that bush. Next was the library, it was incredible, far more impressive than you'd ever seen, you could spend hours just counting the books let alone reading them. Every place he showed you were prettier than the last. Until you got to his room and the small room next to it.
____
"This will be your room once we get married, we've have a bathroom through there," he said pointing at the second door in the room "and three maids set out for you to help and assist as you need. You'll be able to roam the grounds as you please, when we don't have guests of course. And you'll come to events with me and when I have time off you'll be able to leave with me-" you had cut him off mid ramble
"Wait- I won't be able to leave on my own?" You asked in disbelief, he couldnt serious could he?
"Well of course not, you're not some common girl-" he started
"What about seeing my friends? And my family?" Your asked quickly
"I'll be your family" he replied simply
"I'd like to go home" you replied and turn to move, he grabs your arm to stop you getting any closer to the door
"Listen" he said, leaning really close "you don't get to decide, you're going to be MY wife which means you if don't to do as I say- STOP IT!" He yelled as you struggled against him. You continued to struggle so he let go, striking you across your cheek, you landed on the floor in shock. He looked down at you in disgust "I've been nice these last few days to settle you into our way of life since your father let's you live on such a loose lead but I won't tolerate it. If you want it the hard way we can. Get. Up."
______
That's how you ended up in the carriage. You'd been given a moment to compose yourself before returning to the dinning room for tea with your "husband" and "parents". Your new family..
After tea and biscuits George called for a carriage
"I can get myself home.." you mumble but he follows you into the carriage anyway.
"I'm taking you home, you shouldn't be out on your own" he says "you won't be after next month anyway.." he says
"Next month?" You ask meeting his eyes for the first time this evening "what..?"
"Our wedding of course.. the date was set last night, the 13th.." he says. The 13th? That was a little less than three weeks away! "Oh? I guess your father hadn't told you.."
"Uh, no.." you respond quietly, you couldn't let that happen, they couldn't take you away from your sister and Theo!
The carriage ride home was quiet. George had tried to talk to you a couple of times, quickly giving up when you wouldn't respond. He didn't mind humoring you, you'd be his in less than three weeks, then you wouldn't be able to ignore him. As soon as the carriage arrived you shot out, walking down the path, not even replying when he said goodnight.
"Hi" a soft voice says from behind you causing you to jump "sorry!" Philip says quickly "I didn't mean to startle you! Your parents went out for the evening and (s/n) is getting ready for- what's wrong?' he asks when he sees your panic stricken face
"Where is everyone..?" You ask your self once you get inside. You couldn't see either of your parents or your sisters. All the downstairs lights were off.
"I'm getting married.." you whisper, shaking your head quickly when he smiles "they- they won't let me see my family after the wedding.. they have a little room I have to stay in and-"
"Oh (y/n).." Philip says softly, wrapping his arms around you quickly. You fell against him with tears in your eyes "that's really unfair.." he didn't know what to say, it was more than unfair but he didn't know how to comfort you. He hadn't had much interaction with you over the past few weeks. Sure he'd spent a lot of time at your house but he'd either been with your sister or you'd been out you with George. Angelica would tell him a lot about you, mainly how nice and lovely you were. Philip had graduated school last summer, and you'd finished just before He'd met your sister. He'd always remember the day you'd gone into the debate club, you'd destroyed Jefferson's son on your first turn, he knew you'd make a great addition to the team. He'd left the team in your capable hands last year, just as you'd left the team in the capable hands of his little brother last month after you'd graduated.
"I-I’m sorry" you said quickly pulling away from him, what were you doing hugging and crying all over your sister fiance
"It's okay I promise" he says reassuringly as he pats your back gently as your sister appears at the top of the stair case
"(Y/n)??" She asks as she descends the stairs, her worry for your clear across her features "what's happened?" She asks as she pulls you close, her arms wrapping around your protectively. Philip sits with you and your sister as you explain everything that had happened that evening.
By the time you'd finished your sister was shaking with rage, Philip had had to get her a glass of water and physically hold her back from standing up. He knew if she got to the door she would've marched over, well called a carriage, to the Eacker’s estate to give him and his parents a piece of her mind. NO ONE treated her little sister badly, not a single person.
"There's got to be something we can do.." Philip says softly as the room goes quiet in thought
"You're not marrying him" your sister declared after a few seconds, over her dead body would she let her baby sister be mistreated. How dare that- she was pulled from her thoughts by your voice
"I don't have a choice Daddy-" you start
"No, if I have to marry for his business and power you should have too" she says cutting you off, she gives Philip a sympathetic smile but he nods and smiles gently. He already knew, he'd met Theo a few days after their first date. He'd been with (S/N) when Theo had spotted her in the market and came running over to say hi. He'd made that connection pretty quickly.. it was a shame because he was really beginning to like (S/N), it was okay though, maybe if she was off with Theo it would give him a chance to look for his soulmate.. they had to be out there right? Little did he know she was sat across from him
"(S/N) there's nothing you can do.. he's already decided and they've set a wedding date.." you sigh softly, your eyes filling with more tears as your sister hugs you quickly to comfort you
"What if..." Philip says softly as he looks at the wall, he turns to your both, a small glint in his eye, could he have the answer? "I convinced my dad to call off our engagement unless your parents call off the Eackers?"
"They.. they might go for that.." your sister says as she thinks it over
"Y-youd do that for me?" You asks Philip quickly, you were in shock. You'd been actively avoiding Philip and he was willing to do this for you?!
"Of course" he says quickly, a little too quickly, he blushes lightly hoping neither you nor your sister would notice. Your eyes fill with more tears as you hug him, your emotions over powering you. How was it that your sister was going to marry such an amazing guy she didn't even want and you were stuck with Eacker. Well maybe not, hopefully you wouldn't be stuck with Eacker but it still pained you that Philip was promised to your sister, especially when she already had Theo..
"That's a really good idea.." your sister smiles as she hugs Philip
You spent the rest of the evening in your room with Philip and your sister, working together to come up with a plan. Philip would explain the situation first to his mother, putting great emphasis on how worried he was for your safety. She would be appalled at George's actions and would immediately tell Slexander, he wasn't sure how his father would react. Either he'd pull the engagement because if this got out it would be bad for your father which would be bad for him, or he would cut contact for moral reasons. Anyone who could allow their child to be imprisoned like that was NOT someone he wanted his family to be associated with.
Meanwhile your sister would talk to your parents, explaining the situation from a protective older sisters view. She would explain how she'd found you crying and had finally managed to coax out the story of the evenings events. She would demand that they cut the engagement or she'd refuse to marry Philip. If he didn't want to cut off the Eackers’ then she'd give Philip the okay to talk to his mum and set the second plan in motion.
"You really think it'll work..?" You ask nervously wiping the tears. A small smile breaks out when they nods reassuringly.
You only hoped that it would work, the thought of marrying a man who would lock his wife away I a room made you sick to your stomach..

Words: 3.1 k (so I may have got a little bit carried away?!)
You had worked with George for 3 years now. You'd come along way from the scrappy blood thirsty recruit he's met all that time ago. You'd joined the revolution after your parents had been killed in an attack from the British soldiers. You'd had enough of standing by and letting others fight for you.
When you first approached him he didn't take you seriously, something he would quickly learn to regret, you attacked his name and ended up in a duel on your second day on camp. It didn't go anywhere because George had stepped in, he had sent you to his tent while he dealt with your opponent, a one Alexander Hamilton. He wouldn't hear slander against his mentors name, no matter who it came from.
Three years later Alex was the closest thing you had to a brother, you loved him dearly. He was always by your side, you'd saved eachother lives many times over. Be it from enemy fire or from eating food John Laurens had prepared, he said he could cook but Washington had warned you never to accept food off him unless you wanted to spend a few days with the nurses throwing your guts up. He was also one of your best friends, the three of you were practically inseparable, you'd fight, eat and sleep together. The three of you were Washington's aids so you'd all room together. You didn't mind, you'd much rather have them with you and know where they were rather than worry about their whereabouts; as you often did when you couldn't find them about camp.
You'd also made friends with a tailor who'd frequent the campsite, you recognised him as the boy who worked with the tailor your father had gone to. When he'd first seen you he did a double take. Where was the sweet young girl he'd often played with when their fathers had been busy. You quickly grew inseparable, he'd seen first hand what this war had done to you. He adopted an older brother role, watching out for you on the campsite.
There had been a group of soldiers who'd decided you'd be an easy target and grabbed you on your second week, they had planned to rough you up a bit and steal your rations, making its a regular occurrence. Unfortunately for them Lafayette had been watching and followed you out. He'd had trouble with those particular men before and had a horrible gut feeling that they were going to do something bad. They didn't get the chance because he'd followed, grabbing the leader and shoved him against the wall, his friends looked on mouths agape as Lafayette was explicitly clear about what he would do to them if they ever bothered you again. You'd been thankful for him ever since. The five of you grew to be a close knit group of friends.
"Hey (Y/N)!" Alex grins as you sit down next to him with your tray "they're giving out assignments at 7, they said some of us will be going as far as South Carolina.." he says nervously, John was from South Carolina which meant it was likely he'd get selected, he knew the terrain which would prove useful to the troops. The last they'd heard south Carolina had been secured but a LOT of blood had been shed to get there. It was likely that just as much would be to keep it that way.
"He better make it back' you say, trying to sound strong, your voice betraying you with a slight wobble.
"Who better what?' John asks and he slides info the seat across from you
"Nothing" Alex says quickly, too quickly. John just gives him a strange look before he starts to eat his own dinner. Hes barely half way when Washington comes up to the table
"Laurens, Y/L/N, with me," he says gruffly. You have just enough time to shoot a look to Alex, who looks worried, before you're following George to his office. You and John half speed walking, half running to keep up with the general. He wasn't happy, not one bit, you could feel it in the air. "sit down, both of you" he says shutting the door to his office. You share a worried look with John and take a seat.
"Sir?" John asks after a few seconds of silence, there was something wrong, George was stalling.
"You're both shipping out to South Carolina tomorrow" he says finally "first thing in the morning, I'm not sure how long for but you'll both be back before you know it" he says confidently, well, like he was trying to be. If only he could have guaranteed that..
You and John left the next morning, Alex and George had both gotten up hours earlier than they should've to see you off. Hercules and Lafayette had said their good byes the might before, the five of you shared dinner together. You'd be lying if you'd said there wasn't a tearful goodbye. Alex took it really hard. As soon as he'd heard south Carolina he knew John would be going. You, however, were a complete shock and it shook him to his very core. You both were excellent soldiers, he knew you could handle yourselves but he couldn't help but worry.
George hugged you both and saluted which you gladly returned, he wasn't big on goodbyes so he said "until we see eachother again" and smiled, you could feel the love through those few words and you wiped away tears and hug him again, Alex and John quickly joining, he was the closest all three of you had to a father which made you your own little family.
"We got this' John says squeezing your shoulder as you join the other troops in the carriage.
As it turns out, you in fact, did not have this, far from it. Upon arrival it seemed as all was okay, you'd been thinking the worse but once you got there it didn't seem so bad. You had a part of your family with you and that was all you needed. The conditions were rougher than you were used to but it wasn't so bad, you shared a tent with John so you attest had someone familiar to talk to.
One the second day you were sent out into the field, there was enemy fire and you were sent as back up. John was by your side laying against a rock when it happened. A loud crack and a searing pain erupted across your side.
You'd been shot.
The medics did everything they could, they allowed John to travel back to base with you but there was nothing more to be done. He sat by your side while you lay in the bed. He did his best to cheer you up, even with tears in his eyes he told you it was going to be okay and you'd be fine. You knew better.
"John" you said quietly and he stopped mid sentence, he could see the light behind your eyes was dimming
"Yes?' he whispers back, knowing his voice would betray him if he raised it any higher
"I want you to write this down, f-for when you go back" you choke out as he scrambled to get a pad and pencil. He scribed down your final words, a letter for each of your family. You used the last of your energy to sign each one.
Alex had been looking forward to your return for weeks. He'd received a letter from you and John the first week, you'd sent it the first day. He'd received letters from John since but he didn't think much of it, field work was tiring and he knew you put 100% into your work and probably fell into bed as soon as you'd had the chance. John's letters were short, but that was to be expected, hed never been half the writer you or alex were.
"You're going to wear out the deck" Lafayette chuckles from beside him
"I can't wait to see them" Alex says happily as Hercules grins up at his friend. He's sat on the desk with a notebook as he sketches some new designs for a dress, he'd already made you one since you left, he was so excited to see you and show you the three others he'd designed.
Alex stood on his tippy toes as the ship came into view. He could see soldiers peering over the edge of the ship, there were less than those who'd left three weeks earlier but that was to be expected. He couldn't see you or John. He looks to Washington who'd joined them as the ship docked. Soldiers flooded off the ship, happy to be home on dry land after the travel at sea.
They waited patiently as soldier after soldier disembarked, as the crowd on the ship dwindled they began to grow worried. Finally John emerged, he looked ill.. no not ill, heartbroken, he looked heartbroken. Hercules felt his stomach drop as they ran to the deck, the crowd of soldiers clearing as Washington marched up to the ship
"John?" He asks as Lafayette helps the grief stricken man off the boat and back onto dry land. "What's happened?" He asks carefully, not daring to utter your name. John just shakes his head as tears filled his eyes for what felt like the 100th time since it happened. Alex felt his knees give out as he collapsed, laf catches him just in time, practically having to hold him up. No.. no this couldn't be happening. Everyone had told him you'd both be coming back, where were you?!
George's face had hardened a thousand years, his eyes glossy with unshed tears. He turned away as they threatened to spill over. He gently lay a hand on John's shoulder and squeezed it, it was all he could do before he marched away to his office. This wasn't supposed to happen, you and John were supposed to come home okay, he'd warned the general to keep an eye on the both of you, to keep you safe. He needed you to be safe. You were the closest thing he'd ever come to having a daughter. You'd saved his life more times than he could remember, you'd also kept Alexander out of trouble more than enough times which he was, of course, grateful for. When he'd heard your story about your parents he'd been moved, most people would've crumpled at that hardship but you only took it in your stride to power yourself. That's what he loved about you, that you took everything like gave you and used it to your advantage. You were also incredibly kind and would do anything for your family.
He thought back to his last birthday, he hadn't wanted anyone to know it was his birthday but you'd decorated his room with balloons and a handpainted banner and had your whole little family there to celebrate, you'd even found a cake for him to make a wish on. He'd promised you he'd return the favour for your next birthday- god your birthday was in less than a week.. he had so many plans but now none of them could happen.. you couldnt be gone, you just couldn't.. he knew better but it was easier to kid himself at least for a few short moments.
The boys were a mess, they'd help John off the boat and to the room he'd shared with you and Alex. They were silent on the trip, Alex and John settled on his mattress while Hercules and Lafayette took Alex's. Your bed was left empty, no one could bear to look at it, they all snuck glances and felt an intense pang of pain at the sight of your made bed, complete empty.
"H-how?" Hercules asks quietly, he didn't want to know the answer but he had too
"Shot" John replies, equally as quiet, he hadn't spoken more than a few words to anyone since it had happened "second day.."
"You- you didn't mention it in your letters" Alex mentions as John turns to look at him "it wasn't something you could mention in your letters" he corrects quickly
"Three weeks ago?" Laf asks quietly as tears fill his eyes. John not only had to go through it alone but he had to keep it to himself for three weeks? My god "Mon ami' he sighs softly as he goes over to hug his friend, Hercules following quickly. They stayed there, all crammed into John's bed for what seemed like hours, just existing, they didn't say much except to comfort eachother, there was nothing else they could do.
Your funeral was held 3 days later, on your birthday of all days. Instead of George distracting you for most of the day while the others ran around preparing your surprise party they were preparing another event, the worst kind of event. George had sent Alex to the meadow with John to pick wild flowers to decorate your coffin with. He didn't want either boys around when you body arrived, he knew it would be too much for alex and John had already gone through so much. Hercules had travelled into town to purchase some food and drink for them, your favourites of course. Lafayette stayed with George, they'd both needed to be on duty so they worked through out the day, dreading as the evening drew closer.
There was a memorial scheduled to start at 8 but Washington had arranged to have a small private ceremony just before so at 7 he gathered the boys up and they went to say their goodbyes. Alex and John had done a beautiful job, there was flowers tucked into every crevice possible, a beautiful array of flowers taped to the top, George smiled, they'd practically emptied half the meadow for you.
"I'm going to keep this short" George starts after clearing his throat
"Like Alex" Alexander says with a teary smile, as you'd always responded when George said that
"Of course" George says as the other boys smile "(Y/N) was an incredible person, I'd always thought of her as a daughter and I'm going to miss her, a lot" he sighs softly as he places a hand on the coffin "I wish I'd told her in person.." he trails off gesturing for someone else to speak.
"I've known (y/n) since before I even started tailoring, we'd play together while her father was fitted for his suits. Her dad was a kind man who always brought extras of whatever lunch her mum had packed, for her to share with me. it's easy to see where she got her kindness from, and she was so kind, she didn't care what kind of person someone was, if she could help them she was going too" hercules smiles softly "she'd helped me on too many occasions to count, whether it be needing a model for a dress or shooting someone who'd come up behind me.. see told you she'd help in anyway" he chuckled as his eyes laid sight on the coffin "I'm going to miss your pretty face (y/n).. although I'm sure I'll see you in my dreams soon enough" he smiles
Laf was next, he approached the coffin and placed a hand on it tentatively, as I'd he was scared it would open suddenly "I am thankful everyday that I was brave the day we met ma Cherie.." he says quietly "since that day I've been thankful for you, your laugh your energy and your love. You've been an absolute light in our lives" he says softly as the other smile and nod "j'adore tu' he whispers quietly as he steps back so that Alex could step up
"W-we fought the first day we met.. Nearly ended up shooting eachother, I'm so glad we didn't because the last three years have been the best, a-all you guys have made me so happy, I truly feel like there's somewhere I belong" alex says wiping away tears furiously, he WOULDNT cry, not again "(Y/N) came to share the room John and I had and from the very first night I could tell we'd be the best of friends, she didn't mind John and I staying up talking for hours, she was the one who started card games that ended in a pillow fight" he giggles as Washington sighs
"You know how much trouble I got into because you woke up the general across the hall?" He chuckles
"Yeah enough that we were on washing up duty for a week" John laughs "still worth it though"
"Definitely" Alex smiles softly as he looks between the coffin and his friends "love you (y/n)" he whispers quietly as he steps back
John sighs softly "Is it wrong that I wish I'd been here?" He asks no one in particular "don't get me wrong, I'm glad I was there for her but I see it every time I close my eyes.."
"Were here for you son" George says gently as he pats John's shoulder reassuringly
"Like everyone's already said, she's incredible and it fucking sucks she's gone" John continues, he wasn't the best at public speaking, especially when he was upset "at first I was happy I wasn't going alone but now I wish it was me instead.." he says as the tears start to fall "it's so fucking unfair! Why do-"
"Hey" Alex says gently and hugs him tightly, the other three joining quickly, there was nothing they could do about you but they could be there for John and eachother and they'd get through it, they had to, for you. John pulls away after a few seconds and pulls something out of his coat
"B-before she.. I wrote these letters for h-her, there's one for each of us, she signed then end of them" he explains and he hands out the letters for the others to read. They stood in silence as they read their letters. John had already heard them and knew his own inside out, he'd read it many times but that didn't stop the sting of tears in his eyes. He looked at the others, Alex and laf had both sat down to read theirs, knowing they wouldn't be able to stand. Hercules stood frozen as he got to the end of his letter, his fingers hovered over where your name was signed, he sighs softly, a small smile spread across his face as he read the stupid joke you'd made John add as a ps.
Washington read his letter slowly, he was already trying to keep in together, he couldn't break down in front of them. The others had never seem him cry before. Unfortunately his eyes had other plans, the tears freely flowing from his eyes as he finished.
He was going to miss you terribly.

Omg yes?? If you have something to say about my writing I ALWAYS want to hear it!!
For Writers:
Reblog if it’s okay for your followers to leave you an ask telling you what the one thing is they remember you for as a writer.  Is it a scene or a detail or a specific line? Is it something like style or characterization?  Is it that one weird kink they never thought they’d be into, but oh my god wow self-discovery time?

The Flowers (Philip Hamilton Soulmate au) ~ part 1 ~
A Soulmate AU in which flowers bloom from your left ring finger, coiling up and around your body, Identical to your soulmates. They stop growing when you meet and turn white when you get together
(I decided to work on an old idea I had on my old blog @stargazelaurens and develop it properly)
Words- 2.3k
Warnings- none
Everyone has a small flower on their left ring finger, it's small with long vines and small leaves. They appear between 13 to 16.. they start off yellow, pink or blue. Over time they grow eventually entwining their vines and leaves around your finger, indentical to your soulmates. When you meet your soulmate they stop growing, if there's an age gap the youngers flowers will grow until they match their soulmates. If you get together with them the flowers turn white as a signal that you've found and fallen for your soulmate. Rarely you see someone with almost no markings except their finger, they'd found their soul mate early in life, been in school together or were the children of family friends.
Other times you see someone with the flowers vining their way up the arm and around the shoulder and around their neck, they hadn't met their soulmate and may never.
There's a medical procedure you can get that will halt the flowers, although it's not widely available because it's very expensive and most honestly just don't see the point.
“(Y/N) come on! You look lovely now let’s go. Your sister is meeting her ‘soulmate’ tonight” your mum says, chuckling, she puts quote marks around the word soul mate.
She didn’t believe in them. Even though she’s married her soul mate. Your dad also didn’t believe in soul mates. He believed in marrying for acquisition rather than love. He and your mum's families were close friends growing up next door to eachother. Their fathers were both close friends who were in business together, they arranged for your parents to wed in order to take over the buisness.
When your mother was 14 her flower appeared and with in weeks she noticed it didn't appear to be growing, like at all. This perplexed everyone.. until they realised your father's had stopped growing, he'd had his for a couple of years but honestly didn't care about having a soulmate. He'd been working around the family buisness since he was a preteen and having grown up with your mother he knew he she was a lovely girl and they'd make a happy life together. Your mother's grew to match your father's, their flowers turned white on their wedding day, everyone was shocked when it was realised, soulmates marrying? That was rarely but happened regularly. Arranged soulmates marrying? That was a first...
Your father was keen to attend this ball because they’d already chosen the boy for your sister, Philip Hamilton, the golden boy. Son of Alexander Hamilton, the treasury secretary.
You travelled with your sister and your parents to the ball, once there your parents split off from you both almost immediately to greet your fathers work colleagues which left you with your sister. On the ride over there was an almost tense atmosphere, you don't think your mum minds very much, she knows that it's easier to allow her husband to marry you and your sister off to strengthen his ties with other families. While they may not be soulmates she had every confidence that Philip Hamilton was a lovely boy who would treat your sister like a princess.
“(Y/N) snap out of it!” Your sister says quickly “you’re staring at him
”
“(Y/N) I don’t want to do this” she sighs as you scan the crowd for Philip. You'd only spoken to him briefly during debate club, he was preparing to leave a few weeks after you joined; you'd also seen him at school when he'd made speeches at debate or during school assemblies. You were painfully shy so you'd never approached him before. You also knew what his father looked like from speeches and meetings you father had brought you to. You spot him easily, his dark curly hair bouncing as he throws his head back, laughing at something his father said. You notice the similarity between them. The way they hold themselves; proudly yet somewhat approachable. The way they both look at the pretty lady in the blue dress sandwiched between them, love and adoration engraved on their faces every time she speaks. The way-
“Sorry” you gasp quickly, looking at her, a blush forming across your cheeks
“It’s so unfair
” Your sister starts and you nod, only half listening, the green eyed boy commanding much of your attention
That damn green eyed boy, that perfect green eyed boy

That green eyed boy you were hopelessly in love with. Such irony graced you the day your father walked in excitedly announcing happily that he’d came to an arrangement with Mr Hamilton. An arrangement that involved both your sister’s and Philip’s hands in marriage.
“Why did he chose you?” You would aloud
“I don’t know” your sister sighs “I just want to go home and see Th- oh fuck he’s coming over here. What do we do?!” She whispers frantically, feeling sick at the prospect of having to talk to him
"Uh play it cool?” You offer weakly
“Good evening ladies”
he’s standing right in front of you
“Miss L/N?” He asks he asks your sister and she nods. He break out in a grin “it’s truly an honour to meet you”
“You too, this is my sister Y/N” she says gesturing to you
“Pleasure” he smiles sweetly as he takes your hand gently and presses a soft kiss to your knuckles as he did with your sister
“Lovely to meet you” you smiles, trying your hardest not to blush
“Would you like to dance?” Philip asks your sister and she reluctantly accepts, leaving you alone in the ballroom.
“Your sister is pretty” a girly, sweet voice chimes from your side “I’m Angelica, that’s my brother Philip” she explains
“I’m (Y/N)” you smile and the pretty girl smiles back “she’s very pretty, he’s lucky”
“He is” she nods “but he’d be luckier with you” she smirks
“What?!” You say quickly, trying to hide your blush “I- i- I don’t know what you mean!”
“I heard what you said!” She says with a triumphant smirks “you like him don’t you!”
“Listen Angelica you can’t tell anyone” you say quickly “my father-”
“Arranged the whole thing?” She wonders and you nods quickly “I figured as much.. I’m sorry (Y/N), I promise I won’t tell anyone! We can still be friends through!” she promises with a sweet grin
And so you were. Over the next few weeks you grew close with Angelica. She was a year younger than you while Philip and your sister were a year older
“Y/N!” Angelica calls as she comes into your room, she often came over to your home in order to escape her younger siblings
“Hi Angelica” you smiles as you stand up, smoothing out your dress
“Are you ready to go to the gardens?” She smiles
“Actually
” You smiles softly “I’ve got a date.. My father wants me to come see a potential suitor, it’s the son of one of his business associates. I’ve seen him at an event and he seems really nice”
“That’s great (Y/N)!” She smiles happily “I’m so happy for you!”
"Thank you!” You smile, she decides she wants to help you get ready and before you know it’s. It’s time for you to meet him

“Y/N!” You father calls “George is here!”
“Have fun!” Angelica calls as she goes off to find her brother, he's probably with your sister somewhere
“Thanks” you smile before going downstairs.
“(Y/N)” your father smiles “this is George, Mr Eacker’s son, he’ll be taking you out this afternoon"
“Pleasure to meet you miss (L/N)” George smiles as he presses a light kiss to the back of your knuckles
“The pleasure is mine” you smile graciously and curtesy as you smile at George. He’s got kind eyes and a warm smile, maybe this would go okay.. you think to yourself
“Shall we get going?” He smiles.
You spend a lovely afternoon with George. He takes you into the market and you stop to smell some pretty flowers.
“George look they-” you’re cut off with a hand placed gently over your eyes. When you turn around you find George smiling at you, his other hand holding a single red rose and a pretty daisy.
“It would look pretty in your hair
 may I
?” He smiles holding the flowers out towards you
“Of course” you blush, closing your eyes.
“Beautiful” george mumbles, placing the flower in your hair and tucks the rose through the button hole of your coat
Thankyou” you smiles as he leads you to a carriage
“You must be hungry or tired?” He asks as he helps you into the carriage you nod as the carriage begins the short join the to his home. Once you get there you’re greeted by his parents. His mother is kind and pleasant bud she isn’t warm. His father, however, barely looks in your direction; just a mere nod. It becomes clear very quickly that they see you as nothing more than a business investment.
“Did our George give you a good time, y/n?” His mother ask
“Of course he did,” his father interrupt before you have a chance to answer the question “he was raised right.”
“Of course” she replies with a nod
“we went to the market and into the gardens” you smiles, trying to start a conversation, all you get is a disinterested ‘oh that’s nice dear
’ So you focus on the dinner in front of you; a delicious roast dinner.
“Would you like some more Y/N?” George asks, but again, you’re interrupted before you can answer the question.
“She’s had quite enough.” his father says “I think you should be taking her home, we’ve got much to discuss”
“Okay pa” George smiles and takes your hand gently “let’s get your home”
“Okay” you smile and put your coat on, saying good bye to his parents before filling George to the carriage.
“I had such a wonderful time today Y/N, I’d love to see you today” he smiles softly once you’re back home
“I’d like that” you smile
“Until then” he smiles, kissing your knuckles before retreating back into the carriage.
You walk up to your front door and it's opens before you can knock
"(Y/N)! You're back!" Your sister smiles happily "how did it go?"
"It was nice.." you smile, Sure George was nice enough but you couldn't shake the cold disinterest from his parents, something about them just seemed off to you. "We went to the market and.." you trailed off as Philip pops up from behind her
"Hi (Y/N)!" He smiles sweetly
"Hi Philip" you mumble back, you could speak to him without blushing now so that's progress..
"I'm going to take angelica home, I'll see you tomorrow my darling" he smiles softly, missing her cheek before he waves at your both, following angelica into the carriage
"Bye!" Angelica yells and waves from the carriage window.
Your sister sighs as she leads you back into the house. She's been pleasant to Philip over the past few weeks but she doesn't have any romantic feelings for him at all. She also hated that he was at the house around you, she knew how much you liked him. Even though you'd been out with George she could see it in your face as soon as Philip appeared moments ago. You loved him
"So how did it go with George?" She asks once you're settled in your room.
"It was okay.." you smile and she raises her eyebrow "I mean he.. he was nice?" You say struggling to find the right words, well words that were 'hes not Philip'. "How's things going with Philip?" You ask curiously, half wanting to know and half wishing to discuss anything else
"He's sweet and everything but I just.. I think he might genuinely like me but he's so polite that who knows.." she sighs softly "it doesn't matter how he feels though, I don't like him in that way, Theo has my heart.."
"I know" you smile sadly. You're about to continue when your mother interrupts
"(Y/N)!" She called up the stairs "there's a friend to see you!"
"Okay!" You call back and head down the stairs. Theodosia Buur is standing in your kitchen
"(Y/N)!" She smiles and hugs you
"Hi Theo" you smile hugging back "how are you?"
"I'm good" she replies with a smile looking around realising your mum had gone back to whatever she had been doing
"Lets go to my room" you grin, knowing shell want to see your sister
"(S/N)!" She calls happily as she follows you into the room
"Theo!" Your sister smiles, scrambling to from your bed and throwing herself into Theodosia's arms.
Theodosia Burr was breaktaking, you'd been the one to introduce them. They fell for eachother almost instantly. Unfortunately they had to hide their relationship, not just from your parents but also the world. That's what made the whole Philip situation so awkward. Philip wasnt just not her type, he'd never be her type.
Theodosia and your sister were soulmates, the delicate shade of purple flowers that  adorned their bodies were identical.
The first tiny flower appeared on their left ring finger, a small vine grew from the flower, then another flower formed as it snaked it's way around the finger into the hand and around the wrist onto the arm.
Everyone's flowers few differently, except for your soul mate, theirs grew in exactly the same way and in the same shade.
You hadn't met your soulmate yet. Pink was a common shade. Sure you'd met people who had the same colour, he'll you'd even met people with the same flowers, except one, you had a tiny bud with a second flower right under it on the palm of your hand. They stems were entwined and they both had three tint delicate leaves.
Everyone you'd though could be your soul mate would either have the flower or the bud, one girl had both but the stem hadn't. Een entriwed and there were only 2 leaves on each. You knew the chance of finding them would be nearly impossible but you still had hope. They were out there somewhere right?

Baking
Warnings- none
Requested- no
Ship- pippa x reader
“What do you mean youve never baked?!” Pippa asks in disbelief
You’re currently sitting in the schuyler sisters dressing room during the gap between shows with Pippa, Renee, Jasmine, Anthony and Thayne.
“I mean I don’t really cook.. Thayne cooks” you say pointing at your roommate
“That’s true” he nods “but she does all the washing and cleans up after I cook”
“Fair trade” Renee laughs
“Nope no way” Pippa says “we’re gunna bake, mark my words we will!”
“We don’t even have a proper kitchen here” you explain
“Well then you can come to mine but we will bake!” She grins as they call for places, giving you an escape from that conversation.
It’s not that you don’t like Pippa, on the contrary, you REALLY like Pippa. That’s what the problem is. You’re in the ensemble for Hamilton and she plays Elizabeth Schuyler, she’s so beautiful and her voice is incredible. You’ve had a crush on her since the first day you walked in here.
Yeah she’s beautiful but she’s also so kind and sweet and-
“You’re staring again” thayne nudges you from the other end of the sofa “think about your lover again?”
“She’s NOT my lover!” You says blushing deeply “I’m going to bed..”
“Alright alright” thayne laughs “okay night darling” he smiles softly as you go to bed
“Hey! (Y/N)! Wait uppp” Pippa calls after you when you get to the theatre the next morning “I was thinking of making cookies do the cast to celebrate the last show of the year
you wanna come over to mine tonight and bake with me?” She smiles
“Um..” you say completely overwhelmed
“You don’t have to..” her face falls
“No! No I want you” you say quickly “sorry, I didn’t get much sleep last night, so we’re baking?” You smile, panicking on the inside
“Yeah! So I was thinking..” she starts to explain all the different kinds of cookies she’s wanted to try and then to make everyone their own special cookies and then special Hamilton cookies and you smile, wondering how adorable and perfect one person can be..
“Oh that’s places! Okay so we’ll get a cab together after the show and we can bake!” She smiles, eyes glittering with excitement
“Okay” you smile happily as you go get ready to do the show
“You look awful happy” Thayne says when you meet up during the interval
“I’m going to Pippa’s house tonight” you smile, a light blush adorning your cheeks
“No way!” He squeals
“It’s not like that!” You say
“I thought baking was the new Netflix and chill?” He teases
“Oh my god shut up, were on soon” you say getting into your positions for the second half
After the show you head back to your dressing room with the other ensemble girls to change into your street clothes before knocking on pippas door
“Pippaaaaa” jazzy grins when she opens the door “it’s for youuuu”
“Hey!” Pippa smiles happily “ready to go?”
“Have fun!” Renee yells which makes Pippa blush
“Let’s go” she mumbles and shuts the door quickly, leading you down the hallways and out of the stage door. You both sign a few autographs and take pictures before getting a cab to her place. “So it’s kinda messy but I swear I tidied up last night! Just incase you said yes” she smiles softly putting her coat and bag away
“So cookies?” You smile looking around
“Yes! Okay so here’s the recipe, if you wanna call out ingredients and then I’ll get them and we can measure” she smiles and gathers ingredients as you call theme
“Can I measure them?” You smile eyeing the scales
“Of course!” She smiles and greases the pans while you measure out all the ingredients “so I got these Star cutters that we can do black and gold for Hamilton and then some pretty candy canes and Christmas tree shaped ones as well so if we make a few trays of each there should be more than enough for everyone”
“Oooh I want a star” you smile excitedly as she follows the recipe with you and mixes the batter. You put them in the oven once you’ve put them into trays
“You’ve got flour on your nose” she giggles and wipes it away
“You’ve got some on your cheek” you reply wiping it away, your hand resting on her cheek gently
“Whoops..” she whispers, not breaking eye contact, she begins to lean in when when the oven time goes off “uh.. I’ll take them out!” She says quickly grabbing her oven gloves and sets the cookies on a cooling rack while you put out the next batch of cookies to bake and put them in the oven.
“Let’s ice!” She grins and gives you a piping bag “I’ll do the white and you do the red” she smiles and you both start icing the candy canes while the Christmas trees bake
“Oh I do I do i dooooo” Pippa sings as she ices the last cane “girl you got me helplesss” she hints smiling at you
“I look in your eyes and the sky’s the limit” you sing back as she comes closer, just as you’re about to kiss the over timer makes it appearance again
“For gods sake” she mutters and grabs it to turn it off before she takes the trees out of the oven and pus the stars in
“Uh I’ll do the green, you do the coloured dots?” You mumble awkwardly and get to work on the trees. Once they’re done the timer goes off and you take the stars out. Just as you’re about to start icing the gold Pippa spins you round and grabs the front of your shirt and pulls you into a passionate kiss
“Fuck the stupid timer” she whispers
“Fuck the stupid timer” you nod and press your lips to hers happily
