Kaiba was about to say that was impossible but then–then he remembered Gozaburo’s plan with Noah, as well as everything his faction were trying to do within the virtual world and then making an A.I. that was meant for a human body sounded a lot less farfetched.

He remained silent during Jack’s outburst. Alien and complex fine, but… was it possible there was some level of sentience? Sure a personality could be replicated though, it could all be an act or pre-programmed. A fear response could be coded. But if it wasn’t… well it cracked open a whole new book of ethical issues that Earth had never been faced with before. And one Kaiba didn’t exactly wish to pioneer in.

How was one to treat an A.I. in this situation? Did the Geneva laws apply?

“Very well,” he says after a moment. 

He makes some adjustments to his duel gazer. The last thing he wanted was for this AI to get into anything it shouldn’t so outside connections needed to be restricted for this unit. 

“Under the condition that you cooperate with me and my objectives, and in no way put my company in jeopardy. These terms are open to for me to amend as necessary.”

The final adjustments are complete and a little beep comes from the piece on his head.

“Welcome to your new temporary hardware. You’ll be able to see and hear what I can. Try not to constantly chatter in my ear though.” More accurately, what the duel gazer could detect, but given Kaiba nearly always had it on him, close enough.

Phew.

That was... okay that was much better. He didn’t like the idea of there being terms, but if it meant staying out of the void, he’d take it. God, he hated being in this position, but it could be worse. He’d learned that loud and clear.

“Yeah, deal. Thanks.” His earlier anxiety-induced-aggression quickly faded with a “breath” as he was downloaded, taking a few minutes for the complex program to install fully. The AI blinked into existence in Kaiba’s view through the gazer, walking around as if he were really there with an inquisitive expression on his face.

“So like a removable ECHO eye, then, huh? Home sweet home. Gotta admit, it’s kinda cozy. With the shitty resources ya got, you sure make good tech, kiddo!”

Sorry for the lack of content on… well, any of my blogs lately guys. Been exhausted still, but I’m lurking. Maybe in another day or two I’ll be able to get back into things- because I want to, just getting kicked in the teeth by depression pretty bad lately.

Hopefully be back soon, and I’m lurking more often than not so I’m around.

The Jack AI – and yes, I’ve seen some variations on this before with flesh and bone Jack uploading shit into Rhys – has neuromuscular control over Rhys’ body (depending on your choices, when Rhys is knocked unconscious, he somehow seems to be able to fully control his body, not just the prosthetic), so he can control ACh production in Rhys’ body. So what if the AI has access to more than just acetylcholine? What if the Jack AI can fiddlefuck around with Rhys’ dopamine levels, his seratonin levels? Endorphine release? Rhys, made forcibly high at the Jack AI’s whim. Rhys, hallucinating and out of his fucking mind at the Jack AI’s whim. Rhys skittery and jumpy and manic, feeling completely unstoppable at the Jack AI’s whim. Jack AI doesn’t need to rely solely on external emotional manipulation of Rhys when he can screw up Rhys’ chemistry so completely.
