Today is my #veganversary! On this day in 2015 I started with a year-long vegetarian "internship" 😂 and one year later made the dive into veganism. Usually when people talk about journeys there is some sort of struggle involved. But tbh, this experience has been overwhelmingly positive and right for me. My favorite part has definifely been meeting new people and connecting on the basis of empathy, sustainability, and delicious food. And of course, sharing new things with my old friends. Much of #TormentNovella is about dealing with the challenges of grief and the accompanying mental and emotional states. I wanted to focus on that because although it's not a pretty topic, it's something ubiquitous across the human experience 🦋 I was AMAZED at the students and their capacity for mature, sensitive, and thoughtful conversation around these topics. If nothing else, I'm proud that I have created art that makes space for essential conversations to happen for students in the classroom, with the support of their friends and teachers 🦋 This student simply asked why I didn't detail how one of my characters died.
