Thank you 😊. And I don't mind you adding your two cents. This was a very enjoyable read. And honestly you mentioned stuff I didn't think about. Like, they were needlessly cruel without even covering other important aspects of nezuko being spared. Kagaya was the only one making any sort of sense.
My unwanted thoughts on the tanjiro and nezuko's trial
Tanjiro and nezuko's trial is something I have alot of thoughts about, and none of them are good.
I feel like people never talk about how horribly _unfair_ and downright _cruel_ this trial was.
because anytime this trial is mentioned,it is **always** about sanemi stabbing nezuko and _nothing_ else.
it is always sanemi stabbing nezuko. Not the fact that all of them were ready to execute both nezuko and tanjiro, who is one of their juniors and a _child_ without giving either of them a chance. Not the fact that these are 7 adults and not an **ounce** of sympathy for tanjiro's situation. Not the fact that they were talking about killing him and his sister INFRONT of him like they were talking about the damn weather. Not that rengoku said they should just kill them immediately with a smile on his face. Not that tengen asked to do the **honours** and he would give them a "flashy" death.(Love them both, but WHY is that never mentioned?left a bad taste in my mouth the entire MUGEN train arc and entertainment district arc). Not the fact that they were completely and utterly disregarding the master's orders by doing so(as if it shouldn't have been crystal clear that he,at the very least, wanted to hear them out. That there was a chance they were innocent). Not the fact that gyoumei straight up Said tanjiro shouldn't have been born?? Hello??
Not even a "he's a 10 but he was willing to kill children meme" I would have been happy with tha
Sanemi definitely holds the most blame here but the rest of them certainly aren't innocent.
The only ones that get a pass are giyuu(because he was on their side and frankly went above and beyond to protect the kamados) and muichiro(because he's a child)
**And worse,in my opinion**...
It is never brought up again, not in any negative capacity, around anyone except sanemi.
There is not a _single_ apology from anyone. I waited the entire series for **one** to apologize. To even just bring it up,but it never happens. The story just forgets about the trial, even though there was ample opportunity for an apology to be made.
Muichiro, because of his switch up would have been inclined to apologize. Mitsuri, because she warmed up to nezuko very quickly and was one of the only people to suggest waiting for the master. Gyoumei,as the eldest and unofficial leader of the hashira. Shinobu, because she welcomed the kamados and grew to really like them. Hell even _giyuu_ ,even though he did nothing wrong in my opinion, could have brought it up as an apology for "not doing more".
It is never acknowledged that they did anything wrong. That the trial wasn't an extremely fucked up thing to do.
It is extremely weird to me, because kimetsu no yaiba,as a story, focuses so heavily on the theme of **accountability**,of taking responsibility for your actions. How even if you have had something horrible happen to you, that is not an excuse to hurt someone else .
How _understanding_ a character's motivation≠ _justifying_ their actions.
We see in every demon's backstory. How most of them were treated horribly, how some didn't ask to become demons, how regardless of how horrible their past is...they still die and go to hell to atone for their sins.
Because they have to take responsibility for all the people they have killed.
It was a missed opportunity in my opinion not to apply that to the humans too.
Are the hashira's reactions understandable? extremely. Are they justifiable?HELL NO.
What's even more disappointing is that it doesn't seem to have any effect on tanjiro.
I mean,he was 15 and didn't even know about the hashira, but is suddenly thrown into fake smiles, passive aggressiveness, and straight up death threats from his "allies".
You cannot tell me that wouldn't have an effect. That it wouldn't shatter tanjiro's trust in the corps.
Give me tanjiro not wanting to be in the butterfly mansion because he doesn't want to be around people who wanted to kill his sister without a second thought.
Give me tanjiro having nightmares in which they _do_ kill her.
Give me tanjiro feeling safer and more at ease around Tamayo and yuishiro(literal demons)than he does around his human "comrades"because at least they have never tried to _kill either of them_ . Because yuishiro's animosity isn't directed at him having a demon sister and is something almost normal.
Give me tanjiro keeping himself between tengen and nezuko's box at all times. Just in case(even though he is aware that uzui at the very least respects the master not to do against his order)
thank you for coming to my ted talk 😌

Shinazugawa sanemi and kamado tanjiro:why they are Two sides of the same coin
As we all know by now, gyutaro and daki are meant to be foils for tanjiro and nezuko, very obvious. But another character that parallels tanjiro and I don't see it talked about very often is sanemi. Because these two, even though they might seem worlds apart at first glance, are very very similar.
1-** backstory and life before the demon Slayer corps. Similarities and differences**
Tanjiro and sanemi's lives up until they come into contact with demons are quite similar,if with one key difference.
They are the both the eldest of six children, and both their fathers die young, and so,they, while still children themselves, have to step up and be providers and pillars for the house holds. And become the "man of the house" very early because tanjiro's father was terminally ill and sanemi's was abusive.
Expect of course, that tanjiro's father was a loving man and sanemi's father was a sorry excuse of a human, who was abusive to his family at every turn.
And this detail is one of many that will diverge these two characters path so heavily.
The one striking difference that will shape them into who they are today.
2-**demon attack. Where happiness dies at the scent of blood and a new beginning**
As with many of our characters in this god forsaken world, their happiness fades with the smell of blood. One day when tanjiro and sanemi are both around thirteen and outside the house,, key events occur:
. A demon turns a family member of theirs into a demon
. A demon kills the entire family except the two eldest
. The tragedy leaves the eldest with one surviving younger sibling
With sanemi, the demon that kills his entire family is...his own mother. She kills all of his siblings and... he has to be the one to kill her,to save himself,to save his only family left.
And on top of that, she leaves both him and genya with scars, permanent reminders of that day,so that sanemi will never be able to look in the mirror, will never be able to look _at his brother's face_ without remembering what she had done, and what _he_ did in turn.
However, this isn't even the end of it, because this nightmare of a day shatters his relationship with genya, unintentionally on both of their parts, but still.
And so,in the span of a few hours, sanemi is truly alone.
Maybe that's why he lets himself get scarred so easily, maybe if he has enough scars,he can pretend his first one wasn't from his mother.
With tanjiro however, his tragedy is slightly different.
For one,the demon that kills his family is a _stranger_,no emotional attachment. And his sister is turned into a demon.
However, while shizu doesn't hesitate before killing all of her children and scarring the only two remaining for life,nezuko...
Nezuko goes against her very own nature, defies the _demon king's_ will himself, and breaks _every rule there was about demons_ and doesn't so much as harm a hair on her brother's head, and becomes the first, and ONLY demon to not need even an ounce of blood to survive, through sheer will.
Tanjiro doesn't...lose her in most ways that matter
And so both tanjiro and sanemi are left with one younger sibling that is an _anomaly_ different, something that shouldn't be possible.
A demon who doesn't eat humans, and a human that eats demons.
(PS:this is not me saying that sanemi's tragedy is somehow worse than tanjiro's. Not at all, they're both horrific. I am just pointing out the differences)
And then tanjiro is sent to train under a hashira, while sanemi ha stop learn on his own,has to find his own path towards a goal he doesn't quite know.
And then we get to the canon timeline .
3-**an unfortunate meeting and a rash decision. The unfair trial**
Through it all, at least sanemi could comfort himself with the knowledge that once shizu had gotten turned into a demon, there was no hope for her. Once you're a demon, the best thing to do is kill them. This was mercy.
After all, demons are cannibals who must eat humans...right?
WRONG, because sanemi is called for a trial, for a demon Slayer that is travelling with
a demon. And get this...the demon hasn't eaten a single human? absurd.
So he lashes out,so he is cruel,so he showcases not an ounce of sympathy and he stabs nezuko,in direct defiance of his master's order. Because..if this girl, nezuko can resist marechi blood, can survive on nothing but sleep...
Then, why couldn't _ his mother do so as well_?
What is it that makes nezuko kamado so damn special?? It couldn't have been strength. Shizu was the strongest person sanemi had known??so why couldn't she?
Sanemi's anger makes more sense now, because that means he didn't have to kill her. She didn't have to kill his siblings. That there was a world where she could have resisted.
And why do these siblings get the corps number one rule bended for them. Why do they have two hashira putting their lives on the line for them. How is that fair?
4-**sanemi's jealousy and tanjiro's mission. Onward they go**
We don't see sanemi much throughout the story. Up until the last few arcs I think. Because we are mainly following the kamaboko squad. But this is what I think his thoughts would have been like.
After the trial, the kamaboko squad goes on missions that don't end too well.
And another point of differences between sanemi and tanjiro:
. Tanjiro doesn't _lose_ people
Not in the sense that he doesn't see people die on missions and what not. And of course there's rengoku. Rengoku's death was personal,is a wound that will likely never heal,is something that both haunts and drives tanjiro afterwards.
But, tanjiro only knows rengoku for a few hours really. That doesn't mean that tanjiro doesn't grow to love him in that time, but his death doesn't hit as hard as let's say...zenitsu's would have.
Tanjiro doesn't lose people whose deaths would have driven him over the edge, would have shattered him mentally beyond repair.
Masashika was sanemi's final straw and it snapped with his death.
Tanjiro and his friends, his family, don't die. They survive every fucking fight. Against lower moon five. Against lower moon one(and oh,that must have been a gut punch, considering they succeeded where he failed. Where masashika _died_. Different lower moon one sure, but still). Upper moon three for God's sake. Against upper moon six.
All of their fights, not won perhaps, but all _survived_, that's more than he can say for rengoku, for masashika,...hell more than he can say for kanae.
And more so, tanjiro...seems alright. Doesn't seem to be affected by his tragedies. Still so lovable, still so kind.
We as the audience are well aware that tanjiro actually isn't dealing with them at all. Or in a way that's okay. Enmu's dream makes that perfectly clear. That tanjiro has never truly given himself a chance to grieve.
But,he deals with his trauma "well"in the sense that he keeps his best qualities. His kindness.his compassion.his empathy. All of the things that made his family love him so much.
Sanemi... sanemi's trauma turns him into the _worst_ version of himself possible. Angry. Violent. Someone that strikes fear in the hearts of those weaker than him. A carbon copy of his father. The man who he had detested oh so much.
Sanemi is respected, sure. But feared too. Certainly not loved by alot of people. Not in the way tanjiro is.
And also, from where sanemi is standing, tanjiro seemed to have everything handed to him on a silver platter. He gets sent off to train with a former Hashira, and doesn't have to learn everything by himself like sanemi. He gets two hashiras to put their lives on the line for him and nezuko. He gets to effortlessly loved by those around him. He gets to have his sister by his side and a good relationship with her.
We know that tanjiro struggles, that he is low-key passively s*icial. That he tries so damn hard, and feels so guilty that giyuu and urokodaki are putting themselves on the line for nezuko.for him.
But sanemi _doesn't_ know that. From where he's standing, it seems like tanjiro seems like he got everything he wanted, and he's not wasting time STUCK HERE LIKE M-
Sorry,I had to. The opportunity was right there(if you get it,you get it)
It Must have been even worse when genya and tanjiro became friends. Because now tanjiro not only has a great relationship with his sister, but also one with sanemi's brother.
And with tanjiro's tendency to act like a big brother to anyone he meets. I am willing to bet money that he does.that to genya too.
And oh,how much that stings. It shouldn't,not really. Sanemi is the one that pushes him away at every turn..but it still hurts.
5-**the price of Victory**
Sanemi gets so angry,he literally tries to gouge genya's eyes out,and he would have.
After genya tells him that he eats demons.
Meanwhile, tanjiro never stops seeing nezuko as exactly what she is,his little sister, even in her worst moments.
And when sanemi is finally ready to make amends,to show his brother how much he _cares_. Genya dies. Carried away by the wind that was sanemi's anchor in his worst moments.
And sanemi is left with not even a body to bury, just memories... memories of all the time he'd wasted,of all the moments he could have had,had he just tried.
Both tanjiro and nezuko survive the battle, and nezuko becomes human again. Against all odds and doubt from every single person, tanjiro achieves his goal.
Ahh,they are so similar, yet so different. But they meet at the same finish line anyways.
Wow, this got very very long, but I had a lot to say. And wanted to add my two cents on the topic. If you somehow read all this, thank you.

My unwanted opinion on Things I would have liked to see happen in kny
As the title suggests, these are things I would have liked to see in kny,in no particular order, ranging from plot points to just specific scenes.
(No,this is not me telling the author how they should write their own story, kny is amazing as it is. These are just stuff I think would have been neat)
.**Tanjiro and genya going on a mission with sanemi**
Probably one of things I would have liked to see most in the series. I have mentioned this before, but sanemi and tanjiro are two sides of the same coins, parallels, and I think a mission for the two of them would have highlighted that a bit more. Also,I think sanemi is an ass*ole(again,my personal opinion) and is a horrible person for most of the story, but definitely not irredeemable, which is why I think he _should_ have gotten some sort of redemption arc,and this mission would have been a perfect way to at least start one. Maybe sanemi goes too far and realises he's ~~no better than his father~~ an ass*hole. It would have given us more genya and tanjiro moments, maybe tanjiro acting as a big brother because he does that to everyone and sanemi getting jealous or something. Genya and nezuko moments, with both of them being "demons"that are anomalies. More sanemi and tanjiro interactions, more tanjiro humbling sanemi and reminding him of masashika. More nezuko and sanemi interactions, that scene where she reminds him of genya and he pats her head is just🥺.
Maybe one kamado can't fix him,but two kamados and another shinazugawa can.
.**tanjiro preforming the hinokami kagura as an actual dance**
We know that the kamados performed the hinokami kagura as a dance for the fire god,and I would have to see tanjiro doing that too,in honour of his family. Delve a little deeper into his grief and the fact that his siblings will never see him perform it, and worrying that he won't do it as well as his father had. Maybe have him sew the garments into his own size and reminiscing on how his mother wanted to be the one doing this for him. Or have nezuko do it,not quite sure how she knows how to sew,she just does, and feels attached to this garment. Or even urokodaki, from one father figure to another. (Does this come from the fact that I saw fanarts and tanjiro would have looked absolutely great in that outfit and I am mad we never got it officially? ~~yes~~, of course not.) maybe have the kamaboko squad, plus genya and kanao, even giyuu and urokodaki watch. His other family in everything but name. I think it would have made for a heartbreaking, but ultimately sweet filler episode.
.**tanjiro and nezuko going on a mission with Obanai**
Obanai has one of the most interesting (and heartbreaking) backstories in the entire series. Top 3 in my opinion. His _human_ family partnering with a demon? Offering their _babies_ as a sacrifice for getting the money and wealth of all of said demon's victims? Him being allowed to live because he was a male and had two different coloured eyes?I couldn't have thought if this if I tried. His hostility towards tanjiro in particular made alot more sense after that. Because he would be the only person not to see nezuko protecting tanjiro and humans in general as a demon fighting their instincts because she doesn't want to hurt anyone, but as a demon protecting their _investment_. And tanjiro as his "family", aiding a demon in killing humans if necessary. Besides, probably just me but I always thought that Obanai's backstory being revealed when it was did him a disservice, since there was so much going on ,I couldn't focus on it properly. But maybe that's just me 🤔. I would have liked to see what Tanjiro and nezuko would do(unintentionally maybe)to get him to change his mind, and start seeing them as more than that. My bias is talking because tanjiro and Obanai's interactions in the final arc mean everything to me. Obanai protecting him multiple times, taking a deadly blow for him at the end _when he didn't have to_ and saying thank you with a smile is just 🥺. Oh and tankana adopting his snake. I firmly believe that had obanai and mitsuri lived, obanai and tanjiro would have become close. I need more moments of them together okay??!!
.**the five senses squad going on a mission together**
It really bothers me that we only really see all six(because nezuko is an honorary member) hanging out in minor flashbacks. It would have been so cool to see them all on a mission together, maybe against a lower moon if they still existed. Also the fact that kanao never had a mission with tanjiro is _diabolical_ considering she's his love interest. Give me more of this squad, please.
.**A deeper exploration of the breathing styles, specifically their flaws**
Yes,I know all of them are deprived from sun breathing. However,I think it would have been nice to see tanjiro being at a disadvantage against a demon _because_ he's a water breather, for example. Or two demons slayers switching oponents mid fight to get a better match up. Or slayers being paired up according to breathing styles, because there are some that work better together than others.
.**more Tamayo and yuishiro**
I think Tamayo and yuishiro are severely underutilized for how interesting they are,and how important they become. I think it would have been wholesome to see tanjiro paying them a visit every once in a while, even when he doesn't have blood samples to offer. Maybe Tamayo acting like a bit of a mother figure to the kamados, and being reminded of her own children. Give me unwilling big brother yuishiro, who as much as he denies it,and against his own will comes to care for the kamados very much. I think yuishiro has this prickly cat like protective instinct towards Tamayo, and I would have loved to see that extended towards the kamado, because they need it(especially tanjiro). Sometimes a family is three demons and one demon Slayer, after all.
.**More zenitsu development**
Don't get me wrong,I love zenitsu very much and I think he is alot more complex than people give him credit for, however he was underdeveloped in my opinion. Specifically in the MUGEN train arc, when his soul was pitch black,I thought that was a sign hinting at him being depressed, and was existed to see it explored more, but alas that never happened. Also, his dream. I have a bone to pick with this dream in particular, because _why_ was it about nezuko?,I know inosuke and zenitsu's dreams were probably supposed to be humourous in contrast to tanjiro's devestating one. But inosuke's,while being extremely funny, shows us that his friends are his _family_,that he loves them enough that his _ideal dream_,what he most desires is a life on the mountains with the three of them. We know zenitsu likes nezuko, but at this point I don't think he knows her enough for her to be his ideal dream,(not to mention that it's weird)why couldn't his dream have been about his parents? What he thinks of them and their abandonment of him,and what he thinks of himself. or about gramps and kaigaku, giving us more info about zenitsu and kaigaku's relationship, and zenitsu wanting kaigaku to acknowledge him and see him as a brother,as someone that could be his equal. Or even about _tanjiro_ because we know zenitsu relies on him and loves him dearly(not romantically) and tanjiro is one of the first to honestly believe in him. And,HOT TAKE(maybe) I don't think zenitsu is a creep.I wish his backstory before being taken in by his gramps was explored a bit more. To me,he is a boy who grew up with no maternal or parental figure even, and has a lot of trauma from women taking advantage of him,and that causes him to act the way he does. And I do wish it was explored and not treated like a gag the entire series.
.**Tanjiro being affected by his suicides**
We don't talk enough about how horrific it is that tanjiro kills himself several times to wake up from enmu's dream. That he almost kills himself in real life too. And he wasn't even completely sure the first time that he was in a dream and wouldn't die IRL if he died inside of it. I would have liked to see tanjiro waking up in cold sweat and putting his sword to his neck, contemplating, waiting. Maybe _trying_ before being stopped by someone. Nezuko. Zenitsu. Hell Shinobu maybe if he does it at the butterfly mansion. Or kanao and genya. Give me tanjiro who is worried that he's somehow still trapped in the BDA and even _hoping_ he is, because it means that rengoku's still alive. Give me a tanjiro who has a harder time diffrentiating between his reality and his dreams, even months after MUGEN train.
.**Nezuko reading tanjiro's journals**
I think it would have been very sweet to see nezuko reading all the letters tanjiro had wrote for her. Every single day. As a demon, when tanjiro is at final selection, maybe urokodaki reading it to her,who doesn't quite understand, but knows those journals are important, that every written in them is love,is a promise. Human nezuko reading them while tanjiro is recovering, who learns everything that had happened during those two years, who writes back maybe,as a thank you,for him never giving up on her.
(This is all I have for now. I haven't read anything other the main manga,so if any of these happened in a side story, feel free to let me know!)

In my experience, birthday gifts from younger siblings are either so unexpectedly wholesome and thoughtful or so out of pocket that I feel called out.
Make sure to update us!

my favourite thing about bllk is that everyone is clinical and then there's just kurona. he's done nothing wrong. he's just here to vibe, be cute, say weird catchphrases like a side character in a mid-rate kid's show and play football. i genuinely do not think we've ever seen him angry. meanwhile kaiser is knee-deep in his 52nd mental breakdown, hiori is going by "ultrasadist" on main, ness is a bad day away from a homicide charge and isagi has ruined nearly as many men as ones he's made fall in love with him.
