World of Infrared Spectrum We see the world only in the visible spectrum, but there are some animals (like some snakes, frogs, fishes, bats, mosquitoes) can see in near infrared light. I started with infrared photography five years ago but have been lazy to post process the image. Well, with so much of free time, thought to start editing them. Purple sea urchin; Heliocidaris erthryogramma Sea urchins, also called the sea hedgehogs because of their appearance. They belong to echinodermata, which includes star fishes as well, and hence, even they have a five fold symmetry. It's shell, is called a test which protects it's inner body soft parts. They have long and pointy spines on their body, which may be venomous. Black margined nudibranch Doriprismatica atromarginata Nudibranches are also known as sea slugs. These colorful creatures produce their color from the food they eat and is usually for defense mechanism. Demosponges Sponges are simple multicellular aquatic animals. These purple sponges are known as demosponges, which are the most diverse class of sponges. They are similar to corals, however have a few diffrences. Unlike corals, they lack true tissues. They are filter feeders, and hence, maintain the nutrients in the oceans. A sponge size of a basket ball can filter an outdoor pool within a day! An underwater view of algal bloom Algal or algae bloom is a rapid growth/accumulation of microscopic algae in water systems. The threshold for such bloom remains undefined. These images gives an underwater view of how these colonies thrive. Sometimes, these blooms can be harmful to ecology. I am not sure what species they consist, but they might be of filamentous type. One of the best thing about living on the east coast is that one can watch the moon rise! All the pics were taken the next day of full moon because the moon's luminosity is maximum during this phase's day. The first collage was taken on Austral summer solstice i.e. on 21st March 2019 whereas the second collage was taken on 20th April 2019. It is interesting to note the way it rose as in March, it was 'flashy' compared to the one in April. I feel that it may be because it was the next day, after supermoon (hence the moon was still close the earth) and, Austral summer (southern hemisphere closer to the sun due to earth's axis tilt). The bottom two images of both the collage are almost similar! I missed the supermoon this year, hence not sure if similar situation was observed.
