What Your Daemon’s Form Means
A daemon is similar to a projected thoughtform that takes the shape of an animal that best represents your personality, traits and lifestyle. It is based off of the His Dark Materials world, in which one’s daemon is an animal that best represents their soul.
COMMON FORMS :
- wolf. Those with wolf souls will be very loyal to their family and will likely be immensely stressed and unhappy if they cannot see them. They are terrorial, vocal and communicative. They are not really passive aggressive types. They understand hierarchy and will fit into it if it is the best outcome for their family. They are not truly introverts. They get more energy from being around their loved ones.
- fox. Those with fox souls are manipulative, clever, and loyal to their closest people. They are ambitious, enjoy being tricksters and storytellers (whatever the medium). It is hard to pin a fox soul down. They can be quite greedy. They can be extroverted or introverted. They are opportunistic and will take the path of least resistance if it suits their goals.
- crow/raven. Similar to fox but with “supernatural/omen” ties.
- hare/turtle. A creatrix, these souls are constantly giving birth to new stories, ideas and worlds. They go at their own pace but always seem to have an upper hand or know something no one else does not. They are not typically violent and are instead fairly gentle. They do not get caught up in emotions too easily and seem to have a decent grasp on their emotions. They have very strong mothering tendencies.
- bear. A bear soul is an intimidating, large presence that has the strength to build or destroy. They are very terrorial and brutal where it concerns their loved ones. They care deeply over their own. A bear soul is not one to be ignored and yes, it is quite hard to do so.
- snake. Snakes are thought to be slimy, untrustworthy souls but this is not the case!! Those with a snake daemon are very adaptable, mobile, and would rather not have conflict. They enjoy peace and tranquility. But make no mistake, they are intelligent and decide their own plans. They can acknowledge hierarchy but do not actively uphold it.
- domestic cat. Likely to be feral whenever it suits them. They will go along with things just to see where it leads and so long as they get amusement.

“I was very surprised and honoured to be offered a knighthood. I believe the profession of letters should be recognised as having a proper place in the life of the nation, along with science, and sport, and music, and scholarship, and many other human activities.
[...]
I’m immensely grateful to those who have worked so hard over many years to edit, publish, illustrate and sell my books, and to the Society of Authors, which does so much for the profession of authorship. I’m most grateful of all to those who continue to read my books, and I hope they don’t have to work as hard as those who edit them.” — Philip Pullman

We have a Serafina! This is also likely to be good news for Iorek fans — there’s no reason to doubt another late casting reveal is possible for him

Note
how do you feel about there being no serafina or iorek?
I think it is very unlikely that they won’t end up in the show. After all, the adaptation is aiming to be as close to the books as possible. Witches and armoured bears are also a major selling point of HDM. As they both don’t appear until around chapter 10 of NL, maybe they are being saved for a second series? Although if the rumours of five series of eight episodes each are true, that’s not leaving much time for the huge amount of content in TAS.
The cast they announced doesn’t seem to be a complete one (just think of all the dæmon voices we’re missing…); maybe they want to keep some of the casting under wraps? Maybe they are slightly playing with the chronology (like bringing in Father MacPhail early)?

Cast and crew announced...
Bad Wolf and the BBC have jointly made the reveal.
Philip Pullman is “delighted that the production is under way”. He’s “sure every HDM reader is as keen as I am to see it all coming together”.
Unsurprisingly, this reveal focuses on characters central to Northern Lights (The Golden Compass) — so no news on the likes of Will and Mary — although Father Hugh MacPhail only appears in The Amber Spyglass in the original trilogy, suggesting not entire conformity in the adaptation. Characters like Serafina Pekkala and Iorek Byrnison are also conspicuous in their omission.

Audio
In celebration of Midsummer, here’s an extract from Chapter 38 (The Botanic Garden) of the Amber Spyglass audiobook.
If you haven’t come across the audiobooks, they are read by Philip Pullman himself and are completely unabridged - definitely worth looking into (maybe as a refresher before The Book of Dust and TV series?)
Hearing the words as written and out loud from the author himself gives another dimension compared to, say, the BBC audio adaptations. And, of course, there’s a chance to learn how to say words like panserbjørne, Æsahættr and Cittàgazze.
Anyone else listened to the audiobooks? Did the actors match your impressions of the characters?

Those with swan daemons are seemingly gentle, calm and neutral. However when their loved ones are in danger, they will be some of the first to retaliate with gusto, pushed by their emotions of the heart. Those who mistake the swan soul to be passive does not do so twice.

Get excited because we might have a first picture from the set!! It looks like the baby could be a young Lyra ( which means that we should expect a bit of The Book of Dust in the tv show as well!) ( x )
