door now closed behind them, there was no avoiding the gnawing in the pit of his stomach — had to know why she left without a word. nods at females assessment as hands rub together, friction creating a comforting heat. “ why’d you leave ? ” question is blunt ; to the point. “ i mean i get wanting to see what’s out there. but no goodbye ? see ya later ? fuck off ? and now what ── you’re back, saying you missed this place . . . feels like you upended both of our lives for n o t h i n g. right back at square one. ”
andrea was, for once, at a loss for words . she didn’t know what to do other than stand there and watch him intently . she knew that there was so much that she should say to him , but she couldn’t . she couldn’t explain why she left . she couldn’t explain why she never called or texted . she couldn’t explain why she didn’t go see him the moment she’d gotten back . she didn’t know how . she exhaled a short breath . “ what ? you’re not gonna show me around first ? ” she swallowed , her voice faint as she a v o i d e d eye contact . “ dean , i couldn’t . . . i wouldn’t have left if i said goodbye to you . ”
