How to expand Xiaomi Yi Smart Camera video storage up to 30 days?

Hi guys! Im gonna teach you how to expand Xiaomi Smart Cam recording up to 30 days and not limit yourself for 32GB of SD card or 4 days of video recording. I use this camera for almost 3 years now and I couldnt find any how to video or tutorial on how to expand the capacity of the recordings so thats why Im making this instructional post.

What do you need?

Xiaomi Yi Smart Camera (Chinese Version)

Xiaomi Mi Router 3 or anything Xiaomi router with USB port or built in storage. Then configure it as your primary router.

An external Hard Disk (if your Xiaomi router have no built in storage)

Internet

The Mi Account

And of course install Mi Home App and Mi Wifi App on your smart phone devices.

So here we go!

1.       I have to point out this will only work so far on the Chinese version of Yi Smart Camera not the international version. First reset your Xiaomi Yi Smart Camera. To reset the Yi Smart Camera, to reset the camera you have to get a paper clip or thing that can fit to press the reset button at the back of the Yi Smart Camera

2.       In your Mi Wifi App, (I assume you already configure it as your home wifi and log in your Mi Account, and already plug in your external Hard disk on your Mi Router Wifi). To check if you external hard disc is working go to the storage tab you should see the external hard disc of flash drive there.

3.       On Wifi tab, tap add device, then tap add Smart Device. Then Add camera products.

  Often times the camera will be automatically detected by the app, and if you already have previously installed the Xiaomi Smart Camera it will be just like the normal installation of the camera to Mi Home App. Doing the QR code and show it to the camera.

4.       After the installation is finished, go to the Mi Home App and open the camera or tap the Xiaomi Smart Camera on your Mi Wifi app and Tap to Turn to Smart device control page.

5.       Now you will be at the video interface and tap the 3 dots or other options on upper right corner of the screen. Then tap settings.

Then scroll down and look for Video Monitoring Storage then turn it on.

 Then tap Storage Setup for video surveillance, now you can choose how the cycle can be? From a day, to a week 30 days, or even the whole drive!

  To check the where the Xiaomi Yi Cam saves the video, go to Mi Wifi app, tap storage and look for this Chinese words folder

Inside of that folder you will see the chronological of the videos that’s been save in your storage device

  I have to point out that it only saves the videos that was been recorded by the micro SD card, so you do still need an micro SD for this set up.

Theres a schedule when YI Smart camera will send videos on your Mi router. As I check it seems to be 7am and 7pm every day. So it doesn’t save the videos in real time.

 It also work for Xiaomi Xiaofang 1080p camera. You just need to to create a folder TDDownload and Xiaofang folder then share it.

 So here you! You can now expand the storage of YI Smart Camera video recordings. I hope the international version will have this function too in the future not the $99 cloud storage service.

Im using a Deep Cool laptop cooling fan just to cool down my Mi Wifi router 3 and my WD Elements 1 TB External Hard Disc
