thank you so much for making this account, i have nothing but bad things to say about Shigure. he could have been a good character, too. he had potential to be so much more.

i'm glad you enjoy my blog, although i must say, i personally find shigure to be an interesting character, even if hes not a good person. i'd be interested in hearing your thoughts on why his potential is wasted, if you wanted to share them somewhere!

I am just curious as to why you feel so strongly about Shigure when he comes from an anime and none of it is real nor truly matters, he isn’t a real person. I’m curious, not being sarcastic.

no one's saying he shouldn't be held accountable, practically the entire fandom agrees he's sus and that he's a whole trashcan of man, the problem is he's being held accountable for crimes he didn't even commit. This hate page seems to largely exist purely to drag him on account of being a "pedo/groomer" when his exact age gap with Akito isn't even known. Hate on Shigure all you want, but his relationship with Akito is perfectly within legal bounds during the course of the story.

even if shigure's age gap with akito was 2-3 years (highly unlikely), their relationship itself is built off of unhealthy dynamics, where shigure manipulates and uses akito's vulnerabilities to get what he wants from her. his love for her borders on obsession. a larger age gap would only further allow him to take advantage of her inexperience due to both her youth and lack of contact with the outside world.

no one in furuba gets to play the hero because the point of the story is that they're all people with varying degrees of flaws. tohru comes close, but even then, her motivations are at heart parallel to shigure's. but takeya's narrative tells us that isn't inherently bad. it's okay to be 'selfish’ and want someone you love to not suffer, and this idea is what makes both tohru and shigure human!!

tohru isn't all loving, even though she comes to love each of the sohma's in seperate ways. her heart hurts most for kyo. not just because he has it the worst, but because it's his happiness she wishes to see most. she's a person with wants and needs, and her feelings for kyo make her insecure. that allows the narrative to strip away her hero costume and just let her be a person.

shigure’s love for akito is also what humanizes him. he can be cold, and ruthless, and seemingly without a weakness, but underneath all that, he's driven by a desperate motive. he's a man in love with a woman, and that is human. but shigure hurts people. 

shigure's cruelty to akito and the other zodiacs is a deliberate choice on his part. even if it's the sohma's cyclical abuse that influences him, all the other zodiacs choose to grow and become better (due to tohru's influence in their lives) and he does not. even if his motivations are not inherently flawed, his actions are. 

tohru and the other zodiac's exist to prove that kindness can exist, because although tohru prioritizes kyo, each of the bonds she forms with the zodiacs are meaningful to her. shigure only further isolates himself and akito, and to say his grand plan was to save the zodiacs all along feels like a disservice to how important his selfishness is, because it makes him a person. his flaws are human, no matter how ugly they are. 

there will be people who hurt you, and people who help you, but in the end they are still people. shigure is a terrible person, but a person nonetheless, and he doesn't need to be a hero for it to be true.
