The Indian War Memorial, also known as the Gateway of India, is located throughout Rajpata in New Delhi. The impressive structure of the India Gate is a magnificent sight and is often compared to the Arc de Triomphe in France, the Gateway of India in Mumbai and the Arch of Constantine in Rome. This historic 42-meter structure was designed by Sir Edwin Lutyens and is one of the largest military monuments in the country. The Gateway of India is also well known for the organization of the Republic Parade every year. Dedicated to 82,000 Indian and British soldiers killed during the First World War and the third Anglo-Sagan War, this monument bears the names of 13,300 accredited soldiers on its surface. The foundation stone of this structure was laid in 1921, and the last building was inaugurated in 1931 by the Lord Indian Order of Irvine. In the objects of the Gate of India is also Amar Javan Jyoti, which is an illuminated structure just below the playroom. Built in 1971 after the Bangladesh Liberation War, Amar Javan Jyoti has symbolized for centuries the immortal soldiers of India.
