These scholars are headed to Amsterdam tomorrow for their winter term to learn about migration, black diasporas, and refugee experiences in the Netherlands. They'll need to be on their A game when they're networking and making introductions so I spent the morning teaching them my 6-step process for accurate and artful self-definition. Their stories are powerful, and their confidence and willingness to own them today lets me know that they've got an incredible trip ahead of them. Thank you for your dope energy, y'all! I do my best to stay in action so that I don't get distracted by the darkness lurking within the ills of the world, waiting to strip us of our capacity to fight. But in my stillness today, the weight of that Trump...and Flint...and Standing Rock darkness was heavy on my heart. So I went for a walk by the waterfront to reset. And then I looked up and saw this light at the end of the path. I stood at the edge and cried...and prayed. For humanity. For peace. For clarity. For pace. For connectedness. And I was reminded that we have the freedom to choose. Every day. To love. To empathize. To contribute. To be on the other side of darkness. So tomorrow and the next day, even if I'm tired, I'll keep choosing. Like my life depends on it. And like your life depends on it. Because they do. (at Vasco da Gama Bridge)

Having amazing friends who you can invest in, and who give right back to you, is the ultimate privilege. Last week I invited @syreetagates @sallomazing @akuasoadwa @ashley_mui to #SpeakerLab, a pop-up speaker series & prototyping lab I launched to connect the next generation of leaders to artists, creatives and entrepreneurs disrupting industries on their own terms. With the election results, students needed a space to figure out how to turn their ideas into action and make an impact by creating their own opportunities. The homies were so down. The students were so lit. And I'm pushing to make spaces like this a norm at campuses around the country.
