Laetitia Rouget
“Bum Love”
Acrylic painting 150 x 120 cm
Laetitia is a French artist who's been living and working in London for 10 years. After studying at Central Saint Martins School she started her career in print design, and is now about to start her own art studio in East London.
“The fact that the LGBTQ community today is still being silenced in the world is a big problem, and I believe that everyone has a role to play in changing this. These paintings are rather self-explanatory and represent a general feeling.
‘Bum Love’ is more of a funny way to start talking about the subject without choking people.”

Still from music video: “Lovely To Be Lovely”
http://mikkokoo.com
I wanted the video represents a warrior-like character that is not ashamed of him/herself and will not give in to the expectations and challenges of surrounding world (that the black liquid/tar represent).
The song itself (Lovely To Be Lovely) is questioning how much it matters to be a nice person or rather true to yourself, the strength to show the real core in you. We all have bad days and good days and like to dress up ourselves in being nice all the time 24/7 for the sake of being scared to be left alone.

“Unconditional Love”
Acrylic painting 150 x 120 cm
Laetitia is a French artist who's been living and working in London for 10 years. After studying at Central Saint Martins School she started her career in print design, and is now about to start her own art studio in East London.
The fact that the LGBTQ community today is still being silenced in the world is a big problem, and I believe that everyone has a role to play in changing this. These paintings are rather self-explanatory and represent a general feeling.
“‘Unconditional Love’ is depicting a couple that hangs onto the edge of what is accepted in society, they are loving each other in an upside down way that represents the continuing notion that the LGBTQ community is different and ostracised, but shows at the same time the fact that it will never stop them still loving each other.”

"Glitteriti"
This piece sees the Russian word for gay, decked out in glitter. It's a fabulous and proud way of writing a word which has a lot of negative connotations in the country. The underlying thought questions if the word was displayed around more freely, maybe there would be more of an open discussion and acceptance to something which is currently considered taboo. This piece is the first in a series which sees the word 'gay' proudly plastered in a range of languages from countries which ban homosexuality.

Male No. 48
Painting: Ink oil
Size 61.0 H x 50.8 W x 0.2 cm
“My painting explores the intersection of male nudity and society’s expectations. The painting is about the other side, the clenched hands can be seen as protecting his privacy or of being ashamed. The subject is showering, caught in that moment, but there is a tremendous ambiguity in the painting allowing the viewer to fill in the story.”
Painting is on a 50x60cm unmounted canvas, painted area is 40x50cm

“Playground”
The surreal setting of an empty playground evokes a sense of isolation felt by my LGBTQ kids.

74 counties where it’s fabulous to be gay = better than 74 countries where it’s illegal.

“Parted Lips”
“The piece deals dual symbolism related to gay culture, lips on one hand relate to sensuality and physical connection. On the other, lips produce speech, and it is almost a call/reminder to have a bold, diverse voice from the community. That, for me, is homopromo.”
