People might bring up Vincent van Gogh as an example of a painter who did great work in spite of, or because of, his suffering. I like to think that van Gogh would have been even more prolific and even greater if he wasn't so restricted by the things tormenting him. I don't think it was pain that made him so great, I think painting brought him whatever happiness he had.

my friend events this week:

I reached out to an old high school friend after 12 years of not speaking, only to find that she's in Greece doing a phd on psychiatric euthanasia. I confessed to being ignorant about the topic, so she emailed me 19 research papers and said "this will be a good start"

I asked another friend to provide a professional reference for me as part of a grant application. she agreed to, on the condition that I log into neopets, collect the daily free item, and transfer it to her account

I remember when the first episode of the third book of Avatar came out on TV. I remember the absolute crazy amount of excitement I felt at the teaser trailers and promos they did. I was the age of the gang, and I truly felt like I had been growing up with them through their struggles. So when that episode came out, I sat with so much anticipation and joy in front of my parents' TV with my sisters and squealed at the fire nation, and the outfit changes, and Aang's hair. I'm rewatching the series, and the memories are so happy.
