The sun was hot and glistening, warming the shore that you were currently laying on, under an umbrella. You were feeling pretty content. You put your book down and just relaxed, slowly slipping into a comfortable sleep.

You woke up a bit later, yawning and stretching. Once you opened your eyes, you saw something in the ocean. It looked like a person. You immediately sat up to look. Seeing people in the ocean wasn't anything strange, by any chance. But something felt...wrong.

You went to get a closer look. While you got closer, your foot slipped, and went under. You tried to swim up, but didn't have the strength. As your vision went hazy, you felt something grab your wrist.

x

"Please wake up..." You heard a voice beg, and a head touch your chest. Wet hair fell from their head and into your face.

You sputtered and sat up, and your eyes caught a glimpse of glittering, hot pink eyes.

Once your eyes cleared, you found you were completely alone on the shore. Slowly, you got up on shaky legs.

You went home, only looking back once.

You tried not to think about what happened. Drowning was your biggest fear, an unfortunate phobia for one who dearly loved the sea.

As soon as you were feeling better, you walked out from your tiny beach house, along the small cliff that lead to the sea. You sat down and just watched.

You spotted something splash in the distance. Then, a head surfaced. Even from the cliff, you saw those unmistakable pink eyes. You sat up slowly, watching carefully.

Realization set in that this was not a human.

He must have noticed you staring, because he immediately started waving, and swam closer.

You scrambled to the edge of the cliff, and found yourself face to face with the creature.

Scaly, soft seafoam skin, those incredible eyes, and hair that nearly matched his skin, just a bit darker.

His webbed hands found purchase on the edge of the cliff, watching you with wide eyes.

Suddenly, he grinned, a mouth full of very sharp teeth. "You're okay!" He said.

"Y-yes, I'm...I'm just fine." You said. "Who are you?"

"Caspian." He told you. "Who are you?"

"Y/N."

"Why were you in the water?" He asked. "You could have drowned."

"I-I thought, I thought I saw someone. I guess, it was you?" You said, running your fingers through your hair.

"Yes." He said. "It was me. I was so interested in you.." He admitted. "I've never seen a human so close."

"I've never seen a mermaid. Er, merman."

He smiled coyly. "My brother fell in love with a human. My father was so happy for him."

"You're encouraged to befriend humans?" You asked.

"Oh yes, humans are no threat to us. Never have been."

"Then....why are we warned of you?"

He laughed. "Humans are very much known to fall in love with us. Sailors warned you of us because they didn't want others going after their brides or grooms."

You smiled. "I see. That's very sweet."

You two talked for hours. He was simply the most interesting thing you had ever seen. He wasn't just clever and kind, he was breathtaking as well.

The sun began to set, and Caspian smiled. "It's time for me to go home....will I see you again?"

"Yes." You said, answering quick. "Anytime you'd like..."

His smile brightened, and he dove into the sea with one last goodbye.

x

Months went on, and Caspian was beyond smitten with you. He entertained the thought that, perhaps, he was in love with you.

Yes, that had to be it. He was in love with you and only you. No one else would make him feel the same.

He began bringing you shiny things. Necklaces, bracelets, rings, even crowns.

"For my princess." He told you, as he leaned close, his face incredibly close. With his distinct lack of nose, he could get much closer.

You smiled nervously. "Hello, my prince."

His smile brightened, rows and rows of razor-sharp teeth. Somehow, he managed to look perfectly charming with such fangs.

"Y/N?"

"Hm?" You looked at him. He seemed a bit flustered, his face a dark blue-green.

"My father wants me to get married."

That snapped you out of your trance, and you looked up at him. "What?"

"He said I can be with whoever I want!" He said, clasping your hands between his. "Will you please? Oh, y/n, please be my bride."

It was sudden, yes, but how could you say no, while he was pleading so lovingly?

"H-how soon?"

"As soon as possible. But I don't want to rush you, my beloved." He said.

You thought it over, and smiled. "As soon as possible." You agreed.

Caspian hugged you, pulling you into the water. He kept you safely in his arms, kissing you over and over, careful of his teeth.

x

It wasn't until far after you two were married that Caspian confessed something to you.

"Y/N?" He asked, as you laid on a large rock, running your fingers through his mess of teal hair.

"Yes, my darling?"

"May I tell you something? Promise you won't get mad?"

You sat up a little straighter. "Of course not. Are you alright?"

"My father didn't push me to marriage. I...was just too scared to tell you the truth, and wanted to be with you so dearly."

You paused for a moment, before laughing, pulling him into your arms.

"Caspian, you silly thing. I've loved you since the moment I saw you. You could have just told me." You smiled, and he smiled back, albeit sheepishly.

"I love you too, my princess!" He chirped.

In The Dark
A fluffy monster/reader~
Apologies for the spaces, they don't seem as bad on AO3 (。•́︿•̀。)
Originally posted 2019-08-06
You'd always been told believing in monsters was a silly thing, that it was hopeless and childish. But still, you enjoyed the thought.

It really wasn't until you moved into your first house. It was cheap, especially for it's size. At first, you had joked with your family and friends that it must have been haunted.

But slowly and surely, it started to truly seem so. Things moved about, picked up and cleaned. Bed made, clothes washed and hung to dry. You certainly couldn't complain, but....you wanted to thank whoever was doing it.

Unfortunately though, it didn't seem like that would happen anytime soon. Whoever, whatever it was, seemed so shy. You thought you had seen it, out of the corner of your eye, maybe. Always just out of sight.

It was a big disappointment.

Once day, as you were getting home, you saw it. Huge, hulking even. A mess of thick, black fur and long, curved horns. Glowing gold eyes caught yours, and widened, before it completely vanished into the shadows.

"Wait!" You called, but it was too late. "Dammit..." You breathed, tossing your bag in the corner as you flopped onto the couch.

You fell asleep watching TV, completely out of it from your long college classes.

When you woke up, you found yourself in pitch black darkness. You reached around, and found something unbelievably soft and thick. You wound your fingers in it, and felt it breathing under your fingers.

The creature gasped at your touch, voice incredibly deep, but so soft.

"I-I'm sorry." You said, pulling your hand back. It placed you in bed, oh so gently. There was sounds of shuffling, and it was obvious they were leaving.

"Wait, please, don't leave." You said, reaching your hand out until you could grab them.

Your hand found something to grasp, and tugged. Claws wrapped around your tiny wrist.

"I'll scare you." They said, voice hoarse and sad.

"You'd never."

"I could hurt you..."

"You won't."

There was a moment of hesitation, before there was a heavy weight on your bed.

"What's your name?" You asked.

A pause. "Caverntree."

"That's a lovely name. I'm..."

"I know. Y/N." He almost sounded bashful.

"Will you stay with me?"

"I-in your home?"

"In my bed." You clarified. "I would never make you leave my home. It's as much mine as it is yours."

The creature turned to you. All you could see was glowing gold, the sweetest, kindest honey-eyed look you'd ever seen.

"Why?" He asked. Tears were forming in their eyes.

"What do you mean 'why'?" You asked, kneeling next to him. You blindly reached forward, and Caventree quickly reached his hands out, taking yours. His hands were so large compared to yours, and as you admired it, he feared it.

"Why aren't you scared? W...why are you so nice to me?" He asked, desperate. His hands were trembling, so violently it shook the bed.

"You've never given me a reason to be." You said, slipping one hand out of his grasp, trying to find his face. When you got close enough, he immediately pushed his face into your palm, his hand reaching up to hold it there.

You moved closer, wrapping your arm around his neck.

"I don't want you to be scared." You said. "I'm not afraid of you. You don't have to show yourself to be until you're ready." You said.

He swallowed, and nodded.

"Thank you..."

x

Caverntree took no time in warming up to you. He would hold you while you slept, talk to you from the shadows, and kept you company while you were busy.

You had been working on a paper when the power went out.

"Caverntree?" You called, and heard the familiar sound of hooves rushing towards you. You were immediately scooped up, and found gold eyes right in front of yours.

"I came as fast as I could."

"I can see that." You smiled. Your hands found the soft, black fur around his face, and ran your fingers through it.

He carefully set you down, holding your hand so he didn't lose you.

"Stay close." He asked, in a soft, hushed tone.

You fiddled with your phone, turning on the flashlight. You were careful not to shine it on him.

The silence was starting to get to you.

"Caverntree?"

"Yes, little maus?"

"Do you like music?"

"I...I suppose. I like the music you play while you're working. The music you hum..." Oh boy, did he have it bad for you.

You turned some music on, sticking your phone in your pocket. You reached around, until you found his hands.

"Dance with me?" You asked.

"I...I don't know how..." He said. Truthfully, he was afraid to step on your feet, or harm you with his claws.

"That's alright. Just put your hand here," you said, taking his hand and resting it on your hip. "And hold my hand with this one."

He couldn't even answer you. He was too flustered.

You rested your head against his chest. Well, best you could, Caverntree was incredibly tall.

He seemed to relax a little, resting his head atop yours, his eyes fluttering shut.

Before you two could really get into dancing, the lights came back on. You blinked several times, and looked up.

Caverntree was just realizing the lights were on, and for the first time, you could see his face. If anyone else has seen him, they would have runaway in fright, or fainted at the sight.

But instead, you gently brushed his fur away from his face and smiled.

"Beautiful." You said, and he immediately looked away, face burning.

"Caverntree?"

"I...yes?"

"I love you." You told him, wrapping your arms around his middle. "I really, really do."

After several minutes, you felt him hold you back tightly. Something wet hit your shoulder.

"Caverntree?" You pulled away, to see big, red drops dripping down his face. You quickly tried to wipe them away.

"Please don't cry." You told him, tears welling in your eyes. You never could handle people crying.

"What have I done to deserve you?" He asked, taking your hands.

"Oh, darling..." You cooed, voice warm. "You didn't have to do anything, you won me over from the start." You told him, and watched him as he choked on a sob.

He desperately tried to rub the tears away, feeling so incredibly silly for crying.

"I promise you that." You said. "I love you for you. I wouldn't have it any other way."

With a stuttering, shaky breath, he held you close, whispering the words "I love you too.", as he nuzzled your face.

"Y/N?"

"Yes, my love?"

"May I kiss you?"

You could have died there. "Of course you can.."

With gentle, shaking claws, he cupped your face, and kissed you, so softly and so lovingly, you thought you might have melted in his grasp.

Just wait until your parents found out about this.

Love At First Sight
A cute little Vampire/Reader Oneshot
All of these are crossposted from my AO3 account of the same name 💕
Originally posted 2019-08-06
The small wooden box had called to you, as silly as that seemed. It was beautifully carved, made of smooth mahogany. It was a bit beat up, but after some cleaning, you knew it would be perfect. It was locked, however.
You brought it over to the older lady who was running the community yard sale.
"Mrs. Green, do you know if you have the key for this?" You asked her.
She handed you a bag of keys. "I'm afraid I don't know which one it is, darling. You're free to try them all!"
You found a place to sit and tried key after key. You were at the bottom of the bag when you found it. It was old, very old, and it was black, with a ruby at the top, surrounded by beautiful curls.
You pushed it in, and it clicked.
But it didn't turn. It wouldn't turn, like something was stopping it. Despite that, you bought it, carrying it home safely.
x
Once you were comfortable in your house, you tried to unlock it again. Finally, your luck set in and it turned. You opened the box and found letters, photographs, jewelry and dried flowers.
You sifted through the letters, looking at each of them. They were all addressed to different people, all girls.
Emilie, Annabelle, Elizabeth, Florance....
You put them aside and looked at the jewelry. Several wedding rings, rosaries and bracelets. The dried flowers varied from rose petals, to forget-me-nots.
You read some of the letters. They all seemed to be love letters, from as far back as the 1600s, all sent by Isaac Alexander.
The other letters were comforting ones, apologizing and wishing him well after his wife died.
"This guy had bad luck..." You mumbled. You felt sympathy for him. You picked up the photos and looked through them.
They were all wedding photos. Beautiful young women, looking so happy, and a man, looking so sincere and so loving. He was tall, you assumed from the photo. Dark hair and dark eyes, and the softest smile you had ever seen.
He got progressively sadder in each picture. You flipped them over and found writing on them. Each had the name of his bride, and on the last, it read as so.
'Marriage to Emilie. I am happier than I seem, although I know I will outlive my beautiful bride, just as the others. My longing for love has left me desperate and lonely. I ask for this one to end differently.'
You placed your hand over your heart. How tragic....
He was undeniably handsome, but....he never aged.
The first photo had taken place in 1609, and the last in 1918.
"What on Earth..." You muttered. You were suddenly brought back to reality when your phone went off. You rushed to answer it.
"Y/N, where are you?! You left me to handle everything!" Your coworker cried.
"I'm so sorry." You quickly breathed. "I-I'll be right there!" You said, hanging up.
You paused, looking at the jewelry in the box. It was considered bad luck to wear someone else's ring, but....one in particular was calling to you.
It was set with crystal clear diamonds, and freshwater pearls. It was made of shining, pure gold, and, conveniently, just your size.
You slipped it on, and admired it for a moment, before rushing out to work.
x
Your mind was on the interesting man in the photographs the whole day, even while checking people out. Finally, while scanning a customer's items, you glanced up by chance, and immediately dropped the bottle of wine you were holding.
You just stared at him, mouth open and eyes wide.
The poor man looked completely lost, eyes just as wide as yours. "A-are you alright?" He asked quickly.
"I....yes, I..." You said, picking up pieces of glass. "I'm so sorry, I don't know what came over me." You said. You were trying to reassure yourself it was a coincidence he looked just like the man in the photos.
When you lifted your hand, he suddenly jerked forward and grabbed your wrist, staring at the ring on your finger.
"That's....my wife's ring." He told you, eyes wide.
"Oh my God." You said quickly, leaning in. "You're, oh my God." You couldn't even think.
"I think we should talk." He said.
You decided to take your break now.
"Your name wouldn't happen to be Isaac....would it?" You asked.
"It...would be."
"What are you?" You asked.
Isaac looked nervous. Now, you could see really see him, in full color. His hair was pitch black, with the softest honey eyes you'd ever seen, with just the smallest bit of red in them.
"You wouldn't believe me if I told you..."
"Try me."
He fiddled with his coat. "I'm...a vampire." He said, looking anywhere but you. "I've been through....everything. Black plague, smallpox, the sweating sickness, the bubonic plague, um," he looked at you. "I didn't need to tell you that. I'm sorry, I just..." He ran his fingers through his hair.
"Um." You hesitantly touched his shoulder, and when he leaned into you, you got closer. "It's okay, I'm not gonna out you or anything."
"So, I take it Mrs. Green sold you my box."
"Yeah, why'd you sell it anyway? It was full of important memories."
He sighed. "I...already remember them. I can never forget. I just, didn't want to think of that anymore. No matter how hard I try, it always ends up the same." He said, finally looking at you. Oh no, he was crying.
You wrapped your arm around him. "Hey, why don't we get some coffee or something. It's my lunch break anyway."
With a slightly nervous smile, Isaac agreed.
x
It wasn't a surprise that you two became friends. Close friends. Isaac often fell asleep against you, curled up close. He was very physical with you, always holding your hand, touching you in anyway he could, without weirding you out.
"Isaac," you said. "You can touch me anyway you want, y'know? We're friends, you don't have to be shy." You told him.
He took it seriously, and pulled you close, kissing you. He was careful of his fangs, being sure not to catch you on them.
When he pulled away, you were dazed.
"Like that?" He breathed. His eyes were the most stunning shade of ruby you had ever seen, and you could have sworn he was blushing, had it not been that he was dead.
His eyes softened, and he gently touched your face. "I tried so hard not to fall for you, y/n. I didn't want to lose you...but it didn't work, it never works." He hiccuped.
You watched him, expression soft. "Isaac..."
"I've lost everyone..." He said, grasping fistfuls of your shirt. "I can't lose you too.."
"...when the time comes, Isaac, I want you to turn me. So we can be together, forever. Okay?"
"Promise?" He asked, holding your hands tight.
"I promise Isaac." You said, sealing it with a kiss.
