Mako and Wu as headlines from The Onion

Wanted to start coloring some of my #inktober drawings so I decided to start with Prince Wu (King Wu) from Legend of Korra.

I doubt that Wu had friends before Team Avatar. He was likely isolated in his youth, and would surely be aware of how his royalty influences his relationships. He can never be sure whether or not someone has an ulterior motive, an intention to ‘befriend’ him for the sole purpose of gaining money or status.

In ‘Reunion’ (4x07), when Wu says to Mako, Asami and Korra that “you guys are the greatest friends a guy could have,” he is being actively excluded and has been consistently belittled and rejected from the start.

This isn’t without reason — Wu is pretty insufferable at the beginning of Season 4 (I still love him, of course) — but I always wonder about that passing comment. Is he trying to convince himself that these people are his friends despite their very loud dismissals, or does he genuinely believe that true friendship is exactly how Team Avatar treated him?

The funniest part of Wuko theoretically becoming canon would be watching the TLOK subreddit losing its everloving mind

Yes i know there's no scar but, like. In my head Mako is the one strapping Wu into the brainwashing chair.

And even if you don't ship Wuko, you have to admit that's gotta be terrifying for Wu. Like. At the beginning of B4 Wu trusted and liked Mako so much that hw wanted to take the guy with him to Ba Sing Se and assumedly spend like the rest of their lives together or smth (boy just say you wanna get married and get on with it.)

And now Mako, the guy whom Wu had seen as a protector and friend and advisor, is the one helping harm him.

Like I do firmly believe that Mako was/may still very well be the person Wu trusts most in the world. And Mako had a huge part in Wu choosing to take control of his own life and improve himself as a person and a ruler. And now a brainwashed Mako is helping brainwashed Wu. The irony!

Anyway, in the long run, I think this could help Wu realize that Mako is just human after all and can be hurt/overpowered.

thinking about how Mako is a hardcore workaholic to the point where his mental health and hygiene are sacrificed in favour for his career, probably as a result of his past where he was never allowed to stop or relax.

but then Wu becomes his job, and suddenly Mako is forced to sleep every night in a presidential suite and not take any police cases, to go shopping and hang around spas. he’s still a workaholic, but when your ‘work’ is one person… things get mixed up.

More drawings, a woman in fire nation garb and crown sits on a throne while a man with a water-tribe top knot gazes up at her, perhaps kneeling. A pale woman with a tasseled Earth Royal head adornment cries through her makeup, hand to her chest. Behind her a man in spiky armor.

“This one has a soldier!” An indignant Wu Leans toward Mako in bed, Mako looks up from the newspaper he is reading, smug.

“Yeah,” he says “a fire nation soldier.”

Mako leans in to kiss Wu on the cheek, one hand tucked under his chin. Wu appears caught off guard but not unpleasantly so.

Foreground: Wu wearing glasses, reading a book with interest. Background: Mako, in his underwear, holds a steaming tray of breakfast. Looking at Wu he appears fond, flushed slightly.

Wu and Mako in bed together, Wu reading with focus. Mako watches him from his side of the bed. “You uh…still reading?”

“Just one of your smutty paperbacks” replies Wu.

Depictions in black and white of a Detective wearing a gat-style, posed dynamically holding various unconscious damsels in distress. Antagonizing him is a gentleman with finger-waves and a monocle who smirks.

“Detective Shu? He does rescue a lot of dames- but it’s not exactly-”

Wu interjects “Uh, I don’t think it’s the girls he’s after.”

Mako pointing, expression bemused, “Detective Guan Shu, Gal-getter! Heart breaker!”

More depictions- the Detective slings his arm around his foe’s neck, the gentleman holds a knife to Shu’s face. “Got you right where I want you.” The silhouette of a woman, arms akimbo behind them. The Detective pulls his tied-up foe in so their faces are nearly touching. “We have to stop meeting like this.”

Wu and Mako sitting on a bed with a book between them on a cushion. Mako dramatically gripping a book aloft, eyebrows furrowed. Wu observes him, expression fond.

so i finished rewatching lok and i made this (ever so loosely inspired by a fic i cannot for the life of me find right now) ....anyway yes they got distracted and burnt the eggs
