I am spoiling the live action Lilo & Stitch. And I am doing it up front and plainly.
Do not fucking see this movie. Do not waste your money on this. Period.
They made Nani give Lilo up to the American government. They made Nani LEAVE Hawaii and pursue being a marine biologist. They made a native Hawaiian character give up her sibling to pursue a dream that she originally did not have. This is imperialist propaganda at its FINEST.
The original fucking movie is about family staying together. It's about indigenous people being able to stay with each other and stay in their home and be together! That's the whole fucking point! Nani is Lilo's last living relative on her homeland—it is jarring, it is disgusting and disturbing that Nani would not only leave her last blood relative alone, give her up to the very government that is harming native Hawaiians TODAY, but also travel to the "mainland" for her dream!
Not to mention, Nani's actress isn't fucking Hawaiian. She's much paler in photos and real life. They fucking darkened her for this movie.
Don't even get me started on the transgender subtext of Pleakley's "human" disguise from the original movie being completely erased in favor of him being played by a regular ass white man. Jumba doesn't have his accent, they made him more villainous, and his "human" disguise is a non-fat white man—which part of his original joke, I know, is that he was bigger and was more clumsy in the movie because of his size, but to have the main shape of his character completely removed is also fucking weird.
This live action movie is a desecration to the original. I encourage you to not see it, please. Don't give Disney any of your money on this one. Just watch the original. Please just watch the original.
The new message in the live action movie is disturbing and gross.
This is one of the most disrespectful live actions I've seen and heard of. I implore you to not watch it.

"if i was orpheus i would simply not turn around" yes you would. if you were orpheus and you loved eurydice, you would. to love someone is to turn around. to love someone is to look at them. whichever version of the myth — he hears her stumble, he can't hear her at all, he thinks he's been tricked — he turns around because he loves her. that's why it's a tragedy. because he loves her enough to save her. because he loves her so much he can't save her. because he will always, always turn around. "if i was orpheus i would simply —" you wouldn't be orpheus. you wouldn't be brave enough to walk into the underworld and save the person you love. be serious

no shade but you’re kinda emotionally dense if you are reducing bobby’s role in chimney’s life to just his boss. they were practically best friends in s1 and although we didn’t see their dynamic featured prominently afterwards, the show still highlighted how important they were to each other. in 8x15 chimney literally entrusted bobby to look after maddie and jee in the case of his death. then bobby sacrificed his own life so chimney could live. their relationship was so full of love and trust, and to reduce it to a typical boss/employee relationship just because you didn’t like chimney naming his son after one of his best friends is, quite frankly, stupid on your part

the way the only good things about that episode were the chimney and athena convo + the way they set up for chimney to become captain… everything else was just a hot mess

i cannot, in good faith, even imagine myself wanting buck to be captain because if that turns out to be true, it would horribly reflect the real life disparities in terms of how the cast is paid
oliver is fourth billed (i’m still counting peter as second billed as the season isn’t over yet) despite him still being relatively new to the film industry. meanwhile aisha and kenny, two people of colour who have more than two decades of experience, are fifth and sixth billed respectively. not sure how many remember contract negotiations circa s5, but aisha was very vocal about fighting to get a fair raise and even posted insta stories about how white men make more than black women, the latter which have to fight to ensure fair pay. basically, aisha and kenny had to fight like hell to get the proper pay raise they deserved while oliver got his so easily
there are other reasons why i believe buck shouldn’t be captain; he’s still immature and prefers hands on action rather than leading a team. could he be captain in like, 20 years from now? sure. but to have him become captain now over hen and chimney who are two individuals with years of experience in the LAFD? that would be downright horrible and racist. and quite honestly, it would be a slap to the face to me and many other POC in this fandom

if hen doesn’t change her mind about not wanting captaincy, then i think the next likely option is chimney. in 8x14 we saw him guide bobby through a thoracotomy, which showcased his leadership skills and calm exterior despite his best friend being on the verge of death. in 8x17, he came up with the hose relay idea during that call. and as much as i hate gerrard, you can see he’s smiling as chimney comes up with the plan. he knows chim is showing captain qualities (and i hope he’s regretting the way he treated him too).
additionally, bobby was the main person who knew how much potential chimney has as a leader. he was the only person who vouched for him when he was interim captain in s2. and in 6x14 he sent chim back to the academy so he could realize he has great leadership skills, ending the episode by telling chim “you’re a great teacher, chim. and you’re a better leader than you give yourself credit for.”
not to mention, the conflict between athena and chim and them being trapped together in the finale could lead to him realizing that taking the role of captain would honour bobby and his wishes, in a way. chimney could take all the guilt and grief he feels over his death and channel it into something meaningful by becoming captain
#911#911 speculation#911 spoilers#chimney han#just some thoughts that have been bouncing around#it is a little disheartening to see him excluded from these convos too ngl#i think it would be poetic and a full circle moment for chim to become captain#dean talks

people justifying tim’s very questionable decision to kill off bobby by using the streaming numbers is quite flimsy logic to go by, honestly. bobby’s death generated a lot of conversation as you would expect, which is why people tuned into the episode afterwards. but to claim that this choice increased the show’s longevity is, well… i dunno how to say it other than you’re jumping the gun too quickly.
911 isn’t built upon the same foundation as, let’s say, grey’s anatomy. killing off a main (the second most important one, mind you) this late in the game is insane and, in my opinion, it taints the show. i expect many will tune into the next episode to see the funeral and aftermath, and it’s likely they’ll stick around for the penultimate episode + finale. but you really can’t say the show has increased its shelf life until we see the viewership numbers for season 9
#911#911 discourse#i guess?#and honestly i’m not too optimistic about viewership for s9#but hey what do i know#dean talks
