Can we please be normal about Carol Holiday??

I'm not surprised to see hate for any character, but with Carol it's been leaning into the viciously misogynistic. Calling her a bitch (and worse), wishing violence upon her, or saying Rudy deserves better and that he should divorce/cheat on her. I know Rudy/Asgore is popular but Jesus Christ man.

I think some of the vitriol is from people projecting their feelings about their own mothers onto her, but that doesn't suddenly make it not misogynistic to call her (and only her!) gendered insults or demonize her for getting in the way of your yaoi or whatever.

It's fine if you hate her. She was clearly written/designed to be scary and dislikeable. But she is a more complex and nuanced character than "Noelle's super evil fucked up mom!!!".

She's in charge of running the entire town and setting up the festival, which is clearly a huge deal and is likely stressing her out. On top of that, her husband is dying (or at least gravely ill) and her oldest daughter is literally missing or dead. Cut her some slack.

We also know now that she's secretly working with Kris in some capacity, presumably to find a way to bring Dess back (we could be wrong about this, but I don't think it would make sense for Kris to help her unless saving Dess was the plan). She's even been assisting Asgore to some extent, and they seem to be on fairly good terms despite the Dess incident, even though it's been implied that he contributed to her disappearance somehow. Even if she's just using him to achieve her goals, she has helped him out after the divorce.

None of that excuses her mistreatment/abuse/neglect of Noelle, but I do think she's more complicated than a lot of people believe. It's very believable that after the Dess incident, Carol would tighten her grip on her remaining daughter. She can be a cold, controlling, domineering parent and a desperate, grieving mother. Both things can be true.

Anyways Carol is a really fascinating character and I was really really excited to see her show up in chapter 4. I love her already and I can't wait to see how the rest of her storyline unfolds. Please please please be normal about her
