Not that anybody asked, but I think it's important to understand how shame and guilt actually work before you try to use it for good.
It's a necessary emotion. There are reasons we have it. It makes everything so. much. worse. when you use it wrong.
Shame and guilt are DE-motivators. They are meant to stop behavior, not promote it. You cannot, ever, in any meaningful way, guilt someone into doing good. You can only shame them into not doing bad.
Let's say you're a parent and your kid is having issues.
Swearing in class? Shame could work. You want them to stop it. Keep it in proportion*, and it might help. *(KEEP IT IN PROPORTION!!!)
Not doing their homework? NO! STOP! NO NOT DO THAT! EVER! EVER! EVER! You want them to start to do their homework. Shaming them will have to opposite effect! You have demotivated them! They will double down on NOT doing it. Not because they are being oppositional, but because that's what shame does!
You can't guilt people into building better habits, being more successful, or getting more involved. That requires encouragement. You need to motivate for that stuff!
If you want it in a simple phrase:
You can shame someone out of being a bad person, but you can't shame them into being a good person.

Not to make everything about my sorta obscure favs but after watching F4. and based on what little I’ve gathered from their comicbook dynamics. I cant stop thinking about Kobik coming back as sort of a parallel to Franklin Richards.
The obvious point of comparison here being their ages and their cosmic-related, reality-altering abilities. But the contrast is in how the people around them respond to them. Because to me Franklin seems so, so loved. He was raised by people who understood the true extent of Franklin’s power, but who weren’t afraid of him, who taught him to be good and just. But what had me pulling at my hair during the Kobik saga was the way that, from the moment that damn cosmic cube manifested into a little girl, no one wanted to give her that same chance. Everyone saw her as an object or, at best a genie. Too scared of her power to let her be a kid.
The only guy who was on her side was Bucky Barnes, and not even the people closest to him were willing to give him a chance until it was too late. Steve Rogers, of all people, didn’t believe he could, or should, to me it seemed he thought the his desire to protect her as was sort of regression for Bucky. He said him running away with the Thunderbolts meant they were ‘corrupting’ him. I don’t know what was in the air during that saga. I know Reed Richards and Sue Soyrm, unlike Bucky, had cosmic powers of their own to help them take of Franklin, and that even before Hydra got to her Kobik had been used to hurt others, but even so, the amount of mistrust placed on the two of them was ruthless.
And you can see the kind of metaphor that’s brewing here almost on its own, right? About traditional and non-traditional family dynamics. A very special child raised by two parents who have a healthy support system, contrasted with another kid who is the same kind of special, but only has a single father on her side (one with a history of mental health struggles, and though often unacknowledged, a physical disability). The fact that, though Reed and Sue could have never predicted Franklin’s powers, they had time to adapt, while Kobik was born into a bad situation she had to be rescued from.
Now if only Marvel was really to revisit her story, instead of leaving her sudden (and I guess technically only presumed) death as the end of things. God knows they do this kind of thing literally all the time. But it’s, yknow, still a pipe dream.
