I saw a TikTok and it set me off, because delusional 🤪
Now, I watched Reign years ago, I for the most part liked it as much as the next mentally ill tumblr user. I mean, the costumes were no way realistic at all, the historical accuracy was about as valid as if someone made a movie about how Jack the Ripper is actually an 18th dynasty Egyptian Pharaoh with a time travel machine made of polar bear bones (yes polar bears don’t live in Egypt or London, that’s the point, before someone with too much free time pulls out an information book on the Arctic), but if you watch it as just a drama show with historical people sprinkled in and very loosely based events and places throughout, then yeah, Reign is fine.
The people that fuck me off and make my eyeballs itch are the Reign enthusiast/apologist who think that Mary Queen of Scot’s was this amazing ruler, some genius politician, the best Queen and was so unjustly wronged. Yeah, bad shit did happen to Mary (bad shit happens to everyone btw, she’s not special in that respect)… but the majority of things that caused her downfall were her own fault. She was a terrible ruler, an idiot who literally was trying to give power of her country to the worst men she could (i.e. Bothwell, Darnley). Her and Francis weren’t some love story for the ages, Elizabeth isn’t the villain for Mary’s execution. Elizabeth may have signed the warrant but it wasn’t what she wanted, she basically had no choice… Mary GAVE her no choice, even in imprisonment, Mary was doing some fuck shit because… I don’t know, she thought she was invincible or some shit. Believed that “fuck around and find out” wouldn’t apply…. as if Queens had never been executed before (even the anointed ones like Jane Grey, not just Queens through marriage like Henry VIII’s victims).
Claim all you want that Mary was wronged and never put a foot out of place in her life, but just be aware that’s not the case 😂 she ran crying to Elizabeth for help, after years of slagging her off and claiming herself as the Queen of England, when her own council turned around and said “oi, sort YOUR shitty behaviour the fuck out because YOU are going to ruin YOUR OWN country, or you will be replaced as monarch to PROTECT the country”… and then when Elizabeth helps her out, Mary still continues calling herself Queen of England and plotting get rid of Elizabeth…. That’s the equivalent of burning down your own house, crying to mommy to let you stay on her sofa and then burning the sofa.
Mary Queen of Scots was a terrible ruler, Reign lied to you 😂

I don’t understand influencers that know their audience is majority aged 12-16 girls, have built their audience up themselves, happily profit off of that audience, or more so their audience begging their parents or whoever to buy said influencers overpriced products, but then they get mad and pissy when they act like aged 12-16 girls. What was the expectation here?
If your career is built off of DressToImpress on Roblox and prepubescent girls finding thinking you’re the most attractive person alive, you can’t be mad when your audience wants you to play DressToImpress or makes little edits on TikTok calling you hot. It’s youtube, not the heyday of Hollywood films, like calm down. Piss off the audience and your moment dies out fast

Alicent spent a lot time in season 2 wondering how Aemond ended up how he is, after spending a lot of time in season 1 convincing him his life was in danger from Rhaenyra.
Alicent: “Rhaenyra will definitely kill you if she takes the throne”
Aemond: *doing the most, trying to keep Rhaenyra off the throne so Team Green survives*
Alicent: *hypocritical confusion*

Rhaenyra: orders a blockade of Kings Landing, keeps it going for weeks without thought of how the people are starting to starve, has to be told by Mysaria that the Smallfolk are restless and hungry then agrees to Mysaria’s plan of sending food to them under her banners to seem like a saviour
Rhaenyra: summons Targaryen bastards to Dragonstone with the promise of potentially claiming a dragon and getting a better life, then not instructing them how to do so because “the dragon must speak”, then has her guards block the exit while the people flee when the dragon nicknamed the Bronze Fury (predictably) furiously unleashes on these unprepared starving people, then parades the two sole survivors up in front of Dragonstone to show her achievements off and intimidate Aemond

me when people call Aemond a coward for fleeing a 3v1 when Rhaenyra was too scared to go against Aemond in a 1v1:

"Rhaenyra won in the end because the modern day targs descend from her"
I keep seeing this and i roll my eyes everytime, because thats not a win. She only sat the throne for 6 months before the smallfolk got sick of her shit and ran her out of the kingdom.
Her son only sat the throne because every other male Targaryen was dead, he was the only one left. The poor child was traumatized by the events he witnessed, including the death of his mother. After him the targaryen dynasty got increasingly self destructive to the point where modern day Targaryen's are facing extinction.
To add insult to injury:
-Rhaenyra was never formally recognized as queen. Her son's, grandsons and descendants there after do not count her in the line of rulers, it goes viserys I, Aegon II, Aegon III and so on.
-She is not remembered fondly in history either, in fact she is branded a traitor to the realm and a usurper. The nickname "maegor with teats" is used as a swearing in modern day game of thrones.
-The female targaryen descendants were never named rhaenyra either, why? because her descendants considered her name to be a curse. Not a single one had a kind word to say regarding her, this includes her son who witnessed her death.
-The green's ideology won out in the end too, because after the dance of dragons she is used as a prime example of why women should not hold the throne over men.
Truth is, there was no real winner of the war at all, the bloodline continuing through her means nothing when those descendants spit on her name.

was skeptical when i heard the ep is tb centric but i loved jace and rhaenyra! their fight scene was just *chef's kiss*
because she knows that she's dooming herself and she's dooming her son. she knows that targ exceptionalism is important. she knows giving powerful dragons to people she doesn't know or trust will doom them. but she's really buying into her own propaganda. it's her right. she's her father's heir. she wants it even at the cost of putting her child in danger.
she's her father's daughter - knowingly dooming herself and her children while also being in complete denial.
also that hunger games parallel was def intentional, "may the gods be with you" as she's dooming a group of low-borns to fight to the death. she's literally the capitol i'm obsessed.

I love how the cast of HOTD are just enjoying themselves and the fandom is about to rip each others’ heads off.

Keep seeing people say that HotD is falling off or weak and that’s fair, opinions our our own. The thing that gets me is that people always start their explanation with “look at Game of Thrones” “comparing it to Game of Thrones” and I don’t think that puts HotD on a fair footing from the start. Game of Thrones seasons 1-5 are unmatched TV, the cultural impact of them were massive and there is no way that HotD would stand to comparison with that. Because it can’t happen again, the impact of early Game of Thrones won’t be seen again in TV for a while. It’s not fair to compare the two against eachother.
Game of Thrones has in depth dives into characters minds from the book and that’s used to make the seasons, it’s a massive interlining story with many players and plot points. Whereas HotD is a family fued retold in a history book that’s got questionable sources. People say HotD is like fan fiction, and yeah, basically it is, and that’s fine because that’s what it was always going to be. Game of Thrones follows the books, HotD has to fill in the blanks on personalisations and interactions
Another thing, the last 3 seasons of Game of Thrones were so bad, this isn’t a debated topic, the audience were let down. So while the early seasons of Game of Thrones are compared against HotD to show it’s shortcomings, people are also kind of using HotD as a way to cleanse the last seasons of Game of Thrones, like if this is good it can make up for how bad that was. And thats a lot of pressure to put on HotD, the two contrasting ways people are looking at the two shows based on how much the original one fucked up. HotD is never going to compare to early GoT and never wash away late GoT, they’re separate entities

I actually liked the brothel scene in s2e2. I think Ewan did such a fantastic job with the body language of Aemond. Michelle Bonnard (the actress who plays brothel madame) also got the memo and they both played it perfectly.
Imho that scene wasn’t supposed to be sexy at all. It’s deeply disturbing, it’s terribly uncomfortable. The way he speaks to her when she tries to kiss him, the way he moves his head away and lays in her lap - it’s almost petulant , like an exhausted child. This is in sharp contrast to him being boastful not even a minute ago.
They aren’t lying in a traditional post-coital pose where the man is usually lying down with the woman to his side, curled up into him, no - he’s curled up in HER arms.
The opening shot when the server parts the curtain looks like those paintings of a mother holding her child. The warm milk poured for him doesn’t help. Then he curls up in her lap again, instead of kissing her.
Oh, he is a child, trapped in the body of an adult, reliving his traumas over and over again in the arms of the only adult female figure he feels that he can be emotionally vulnerable with (despite their past history).
Baby Aemond cries to his mother when his brother and cousins bully him and give him a pig. But now he can’t go to her anymore, so he lays in the arms of the madame and tells her how he was mocked for being different.
The madame talks to him like you would talk to a child about to throw a tantrum, except this child has the most dangerous weapon in the known world. She soothes him and tries to suggest to him that a fit of rage from a powerful prince puts everyone in danger - foreshadowing later events.
I see it. I see the vision.
