*spoilers for hotd season 1 episode 10*
one good thing that came out of the hotd finale was corlys talking abt staying out of the war and finally retiring to driftmark with, and i quote, "our grandchildren" and rhaenys immediately responding with "jace, luke, and joff are claimants to the throne, those boys will not be safe so long as aegon is king."
like at this point they both know laenor didn't father those boys but he was a father to them and rhaenys + corlys wholeheartedly count them as their grandchildren!! their son's babies!! they said "aegon iii and viserys ii who? those are daemon's kids" but jace, luke, and joff? ours
corlys was ready to kidnap them and bring them to high tide to live their days out with baela and rhaena i cry. rhaenys calling them by their nicknames and not with their formal names i also cry.

babygirl if you chase your 12-year-old nephew into a storm on your CENTURIES OLD GIANTONORMOUS dragon while he's on a horse-sized one, and you yell about debts and do your best disney villain laugh, what do you THINK would happen

I know Aemond flew back his ass back to the Red Keep, went up to his room, not saying a word to anybody and just waited for the news to break like

i feel like one thing that house of the dragon did well which some people are ignoring, is the fact that there is a difference between a dragon and rider bonding and someone simply claiming a dragon.
syrax feeling every bit of rhaenyra's pain is a great illustration of how dragon and rider are bonded and echo each other's emotions. on the other hand, aemond simply claimed vhagar and never truly bonded with her, paying a hefty price for it at storm's end.

this just goes to show that dragons only conquer and destroy. they don’t give 2 sh*ts about what the rider wants unless it aligns with what they want - fire and blood. throughout targ history, there have been “accidents” but what really happened was that targs fcked around and found out dragons can’t be domesticated.

So Rhaenyra loses her unborn daughter and son, Luke, in the span of at most a few days.
It’s gotta be some fucked up game of thrones level irony shit that Rhaenyra names her unborn daughter Visenya, after Vhagar’s original rider—Visenya, who conquered Westeros with Aegon the Conqueror.
And then that same Vhagar almost immediately goes and chomps Rhaenyra’s son in some disobedient senile PTSD freak out.
Only Game of Thrones, man.
